What the fuck actually was the cultural phenomenon known as Minecraft? How did it come to be the best-selling game in history? Does it deserve to be at the top?

>>727794034The game speaks to your caveman DNA by allowing you to build shelter out of wood and hunt animals for food.
>>727794034It is a game that was ALWAYS going to be made. In the way music was already always made, it was just waiting for someone to discover it. RuneScape was made by Andrew Gower, and Minecraft is a first person version of Runescape.Minecraft was ALWAYS going to be made, it was just up to the first person to get to it.
>>727794168>caveman DNAkek do atheists really?

>>727794301Almost none. I have one idea that frequently enters my mind that could be used across multiple genres, JRPG, action game, the same game made in different ways, and that's it.
The game's footprint managed to hit three types of audience at the same time - buildmaxxing autism, friendslop, and steamerbait (just when streaming was on the rise).
i find minecraft extremely boring
>>727794034It's virtual Legos. Of course it's going to be popular.
>>727794645In actuality, the base game was sparse of features, and the game was essentially made by modder fansNotch played almost nothing in the actual popularity of the game rising to astronomical proportions. It was a game that was already in the aether

>>727794753I'm looking to make another Metal Gear Solid mixed with Commandos... and that is my idea. The story idea I have is something else. Sort of those games with a mix of Octopath Traveler. I've expressed it elsewhere, and the idea is too big. I changed my idea of it to a JRPG with the same story and setting, and I think the conservative in politic of /v/ would like it. But I keep putting it off and never start making it because I have clinical fatigue and drink coffee constantly to self-medicateI will probably never make it, but it is an idea that is in the aether waiting to be created
>>727794720The java version's sales are only about one quarter of its total sales, which they've repeatedly tried to force people to rebuy with the incessantly routine account migrations. The real grift is selling it on every console possible then abandoning that console's development, forcing people to buy the game again on a new console if they want any updates. The android version also had a longstanding issue where the purchase was nullified if the user uninstalled minecraft from their device or bought a new device, so some of the android reviews are of people complaining that they have had to buy the game half of a dozen times.
