What caused this culture shift where suddenly in nearly every game healers are now the most popular class or at least tied with dps whereas 5 years ago dps were totally dominant
>>

100% you're playing a game for the effeminate
>>
healing is the most fun gameplay and its that simple. its fun to use healing spells. tanking is too complicated and it feels like shit having everyone pummel on you. and DPS feels too finicky where you have to juggle tons of things just to be effective at all
>>
>>727796665
I don't think healers are anywhere near as popular as dps. What game have you noticed this in? Tank will always be unpopular because you actually have to pay attention and know the instances at least semi-well.
>>
>>727796665
Healing just feels really good and people are starting to take notice.

Trannies get hard from pretending they like playing the “girl” class

The original Trinity was tank healer and utility/support you zoom fucks. After that you could get a bajillion dpses. DPS only became necessary after Enrages were in use regularly.

because its the most important role, everythings designed around a healing and the healers mana pool with appropriate gear, a good healer can carry a tank and dps to a clear, and if the party is good a good healer can become a good dps on top

The fact that none of these games took off is proof that the trinity needs less roles, not more.

healers are a lot easier now because back then "people don't want to play healer" so they became dps lite on top of their usual easy duties
in at least one case off the top of my head the healer class in LOTRO (minstrel) can spec into a dps better than the actual dps classes

DPS “Rotations” aren’t fun. Bring back auto attack and DPS will be popular again. Basically healer design became much more engaging, and DPS design became far more tedious.

adding: even then hunters and champions are still around 50% of a given server's classes, at least partly because hunters can fast travel

MMOs are a dead genre and need innovation

your top contenders are
>ERP fantasy online 14
>WoW classic (20 years old)
>Oldschool Runescape (20 years old) (no classes)

there needs to be some upset in the sandbox to engage people again, the recent, small, temporary exodus of WoW players to runescape had some interesting ideas get floated around, mostly a focus on high skill non group content
>>
>>727797494
people don't play a role because it's the most important because then they get anxiety about fucking up (see: "tankxiety")
>>

Yea relying on ancient systems like the WoW trinity isn't gonna turn any heads, neither is making more like the boomer MMOs that nobody liked in the first place. The trinity needs less roles and by that I mean no roles. Get rid of it and make an open system instead, a fluid system where players themselves choose their roles based on what is required of them from the encounters themselves. Let them come up with creative solutions to fun problems, not funnel them into a deterministic closed off system like the trinity.
>>
In shooters, it's because DPS generally need to aim and tanks generally need to understand the game well, so it's the default scrub role

Even in games in which “the trinity” is gotten rid of like GW2, players bring it back because it’s the most powerful way to specialize characters in encounters. Games like EQ had enough jank in them that you’d use unorthodox leveling strategies (charming, kiting, root rotting, etc), but people didn’t like the jank, so it was polished away.

healing has a low floor but high ceiling, most parties are good enough you have loads of downtime and you can be lazy and not dps, you also get the benefit of sitting back and getting a better view of the fights and can learn them and what happens very easily
>>
>>727796665
What game are you playing? When did any new MMO even come out
>>

The estrogen in the water turning men less combative and more effeminate + games becoming mainstream enough for women to use them as a source of attention.

A problem with GW2 is that they had all the systems in place for the WoW trinity to shine, like they blindly copied the game and then were like "hmm we probably need to do something different to be unique" so they decided to avoid the trinity. But of course the trinity shone through because the game was fucking design for it from the start. If you want to avoid such a prominent trinity then you need to design it that way from the start.
