Honestly, I don't know why anybody hasn't done this yet. But I feel like the best use for ai in video games is to make NPCs feel more alive.We've never been able to type our conversations with video game NPCs before. The most you can do is select from a few options of dialogue and they give you scripted responses.BUT this would only be good for filler NPCs who don't have much to say anyways. I don't think you should let AI control the important story NPCs because then their dialogue will be shit and ruin the story.But I think having AI generated dialogue for the random extra NPCs would make the game feel personalized and alive.I can't think of a better use for AI in video games than that...Lol.
