On a more subjective note the color palette and art direction are much drearier, and having to set bodies on fire to prevent Crimson Heads significantly changes how you play and approach the game. RE1 became one of my top ten games after playing it, it's design really is a masterpiece. REmake on the other hand is not the way someone should experience RE1 for the first time, and considering how many scares and revised puzzles rely on psyching out someone who's already played the original, it's value is really in being a very elaborate new arrange mode.
