yeah i got into Stellaris around xmas time and as much as I've enjoyed it since then, like 90% of the fun of the game is the initial exploring/expansion part.

Civ6's problem is bloat. It just has like 400 different systems, currencies and shit to keep track of that dont synergize together whatsoever and its easier to just delete someone with Man-At-Arms spam than it is to actually interact with any of the rest of the game.

Haven't played in a while but basically the best stats are to have are high evasion and long distance. Thus, doomstacking corvettes was the best option, atleast it was when I played it. Carriers with hanger bays are also good because they have the longest distance. Basically if you can hit enemy ships without getting hit yourself (distancr and evasion) you're going to win even if you're at a numbers disadvantage provided it's not too small. I think no retreat was also overpowered as fuck, but quite dangerous if you run into a big threat

As for ship design here's a guide, it's outdated but it should give you an idea of what things you should be considering when designing them. But if you want a one-size-fits-all hammer, spam strike craft which will generally work against everything even if it's not as efficient as building specialised fleets.

The game has been good at multiple points through its life, but right now is not one of them. The latest update nerfed job outputs so much that the economy is basically non function for normal builds, right now really the only way to play the game is using some variation of a broken meta build.

The worst part is just how retardedly low the base output of specialist jobs are now. Research, alloy, and consumer good jobs woud genuinely not be worth building if they weren't the only reliable way to produce their outputs at scale for most builds. Researchers particularly are unimaginably dogshit.

Rebalancing isn't entirely unjustified, the game has had OP build problems for a while, but for some fucking reason instead of finding ways to just nerf particularly egregious offenders they've repeatedly nerfed baseline stats, apparently completely oblvious to the fact that doing this hurts the average build way more than it hurts builds already out on the extreme exploiting some bullshit to be OP.
