I do feel unhappy with my appearance, and have been shamed for it every bit as much as a fat woman has, and yet, I have never felt entitled to representation, nor have I wanted any. I don't understand that compulsion. Representation has no place in video games. You are there to role play a character and have fun, and there are plenty of ways I can relate to a character of any size, ethnicity, gender, or age, because there are inevitably things we have in common as human beings. And even when I don't relate directly to a character myself, they sometimes remind me of someone I know or admire. It's a political agenda under the veil of empathic humanism. I doubt there are any number of real enthusiasts of gaming or any other given hobby who have genuinely experienced lack of representation as a barrier to enjoyment. But I'm afraid being on /v/ isn't exactly a seal of quality, even if this IS a place where good posters hang out and IS a place that is most likely to facilitate good discussion (alongside oceans of terrible discussion, that is). Plenty of anons have shit taste.You mentioned Lee yourself, and Lee was terrible. Telltale's Walking Dead was terrible. It was a movie game that somehow psyoped itself past being associated with the rest of movie games. The choices system was terrible and not just because ultimately they didn't matter, but also because making Lee into a blank slate for the players to project a desired personality to made him a non-character.

While Telltale's Walking Dead is in fact a movie game, Lee is still a good character. He's not so much a blank slate imo but I can see what you mean by that. Still doesn't change the fact that he is looked upon as an actual good black character by a good bit of the posters on this board. Not saying it's a seal of his quality as a character but just that there are black characters that this board likes for one reason or another.

Lee had a solid backstory and plenty of things to say outside of what you made him say, and with the choices given in the game it created a massive dissonance between his character and the players' execution of it. I still remember that video of a dude laughing his ass off while choosing the . . . option every time he got a chance to, that shit was as hilarious as failing every QTE in Heavy Rain.As far as this board liking them, like I said, there are plenty of people with shit taste. And let's be honest, they wouldn't have played Lee if he was the protagonist of some kinda Uncharted or if they could choose to play as a reasonably normal white guy. Lee got carried by the "YOUR CHOICES MATTER KENNY WILL REMEMBER THIS" psyop, he had nothing to offer the players as a character, and his lack of character is directly correlated with the game's success because of DA CHOICES DOOD.You're making the best arguments you could given the material you're working with, I'll commend you on that, but it's like fighting a machinegun entrenchment with a broomstick.

I've actually been thinking about this a bit recently and I think I figured out why.Women are brought up that their general self worth and identity is based off their looks while men are based off their actions.When women can't literally make themselves they feel invalidated because it sends the message that their core self is worthless.Since men are taught that their self worth is action they have no problem relating to someone like Goku despite being black because it's not about Goku's skin color but about his ability to fight for his friends, family and values.I think this is also why feminism and the mansopher is so damaging because they both keep enforcing self-worth through vanity rather than action, while at the same time the reason why the lonelyness epidemic is happening is because you have a bunch of men, and some women, who's actions aren't being valued.
