The problem isn't that they redesigned an irrelevant side-character, the problem is that after all these decades, Star Fox barely has any identity in the eyes of Nintendo anymore, if remaking the first game yet again wasn't indication enough... Though I will say that the fan consensus partly to blame, with every game other than the first having some irredeemable quality in their eyes.
