2020, after years of looking at 4chan greentexts and loving them i decided to finally start lurking here. And i was lucky too because balan wonderland just released and the threads about that game were beautiful. This was at the peak of the sneed memes and the farmer from balan being compared to virgil was so funny. Of course i still come here because no other website offers the freedom to type whatwver you want and the engagement you can have with other users here is unparalleled since this isnt about farming likes. Though, sometimes i enter a fucking thread of a game i enjoy like starfox and need to flee after this see softcore porn of fox making out with wolf. The worst aspect of this site is the derailing of threads by the mentally ill.

The idea of congregating with actual nerds who aren't insane lefty troons was appealing.I started on /v/ and branched out to /tv/ and /wsg/ for when doomscrolling youtube got old./tv/ is one of the worst boards on this site, but it was cool seeing a thread on a niche movie I had just watched days before and had literally never heard anyone talk about online or irl. I felt like I truly was surrounded by people who were on the same wavelength as me, and it felt awesome. The people weren't retarded and could give genuine insights on obscure media like Etrian Odyssey and it was from people who actually played the shit. The site seemed to be mostly free from the influence of the algorithm, but there is a lot of crossposting from X. Eventually, I got diminishing returns as the site lost its novelty and while the shitposting and imageboard format catered to my autistic sense of humor and references to random lines from games and movies, seeing the same memes and bait posts got annoying. I even noticed a lot of the insights I saw would just be parroted, so the amount of original thought on here is lacking than I originally thought. I should stop visiting before my brain becomes complete mush from lack of nuance and /pol/brainrot. I liked having original thoughts that I would then read on here, but now it feels like all my thoughts and opinions come from /v/ (and the streamer who brought me here who also has no original thoughts because he is just /v/ incarnate) which is not good
>>739375956I came here to discuss videogames. However I soon learned this place is full of jaded, bitter, contrarian faggots and that it’s impossible to discuss videogames here. So now I just come here to troll.
Early 2011 when I got my own laptop.I mostly just used /b/ (which had fun stuff like geography threads instead of being 100% porn back then) and /a/ at first. I still come here because I can't stand how every other site requires walking on eggshells about so many topics now. I'm a very left-leaning guy socioeconomically, but also a christfag, so sites like reddit where everything is in extremes feel awful to use. Plus I hate all forms of upvoting and most sites have that now. Forums are super slow now because most people have centralized on sites like reddit or in discord servers.

>>739375956Vidya.You must have a certain kind of interiority to truly be of this place, I believe most boards have lost those sensibilities in favor of crude, idiotic mimicry of discourse outside of 4chan. True 4chan lives on hard-to-get-into boards, /lit/ being a perfect example. 4chan as we know is still thriving in other boards, but it's been long dead here.
I used to browse YTMND forums and then Facepunch in the mid 2000s. Particularly with the latter, I got sick of people's post counts going their heads. When Garry introduced gold memberships which gave you early access to GMod builds, the ego of people that had that badge on their profile was unbelievable. There were those fags that replied to EVERY thread even if they had nothing of value to say just to get their post count up, which showed up right underneath their names. So I just wanted something completely anonymous. No one's going to go back to your old posts from a year ago to show you contradicting yourself.I prefer the chaotic anonymity with no accountability of this place.

Free speech + anonymity results in the healthiest environment for discussion and originality. Ideas and arguments operate on merit, rather than faggots banning you for wrongthink.
>>739375956It represented the internet as it was then, and stayed that way despite a lot of cultural shifts and attempts to neuter it. I mean it's nothing like 2007 4chan and not even close, but at least it hasn't been politicked into silence like every other webchat platform after 2015. 2015 was when the EU and US Democrats decided to start attempting to use internet for censorship, and decided to force platform providers to lay down rules of behavior. That alone ruined the open internet, and 4chan's just held on.The nonjudgmentalism, and letting users say what they want is important. I used to hate 4chan and it would've been my least used site, but I've "resorted" to going here after the other places were ruined by Moderation policies. If 4chan disappears I'll probably slowly stop using the internet at all. And I won't be jumping on any AI bandwagon either. The fascination is gone.

>>739375956my friend showed me /b/ in 2008 but I don't think I started lurking regularly until like 2011I like that people were so honest here. nothing to prove, nothing to hide. now it's the opposite, just bots and jeets. but I'm certainly not going to make a reddit or twitter account and interact with even more normgroids
>>739375956i saw an image of a guy talking about eating three cheeseburgers on this website so i came here
>>739375956Got bored of using JVC because they turned into 1984Don't remember, might have been Dragon Ball Super releasing so I wanted to use /a/.No other place for me to chat about random bullshit that isn't reddit and I'm not using places like that
>/v/ wasnt a board when i first showed up in may 2004>i found 4chan through /h/ in a naruto thread through google page 30+>all because i was looking for more naruto hentai back thenand not a single thing has changed. 22 years of the same old grind
>only 26 oldfags ITTGrim
>>739379447At least a decade ago, I don't remember the particular year or if it's been 20.
>>739376331>>739376431youtube has become so saturated with filler content nowadays
>>739379428>/tv/ is the only board that's actually funny>Literally /pol2/>Literally tranny safe spaces on the site next to /co/ and /lgbt/Fuck off
>>739375956Probably like 2014 but became a regular at like 2015. I was so mad how every normalfag was praising Fallout 4 but it was the worst game I've ever played, 11 years later still can't beat it due to boredom.
I miss old /b/, there's nothing quite like it anywhere...
>>739376331Bro the site is 20 YEARS OLD, so 1 hour is pretty brief to cover it yeah.
>>739379572Well it's funny when you don't have a severe mental illness.
>>739378965I got that from you fags who I assumed had been here way longer than me but my bad igDiscussion over every new release turns into culture war and my team vs your team. Not sure what else to call this behavior
>>739379598I miss it too. I honestly think that /v/ becoming "blue /b/" is not necessarily bad, as long as we also have a video game board to talk about video games like holy fuck the staff here are so checked out it's unreal
>>739379598Hasn't there been like, 4 different not /b/s that all turn into porn dump shitholes because the fags in charge can't do their job?
>>739379598the first place I went to when Obama announced they got bin Laden. Entire front page, the ENTIRE page, was bin Laden threads
>>739379368found it. Worthy of a nostalgia fap
>>739375956>Why did you start browsing /v/interested in checking out what it's like>and what brought you here?absence of account creation/registration requirements, you just click on a thread and start posting immediately>When?3-4 years ago>Why are you still here?I barely visit it anymore, the average discussion level is dogshit, nobody has original opinions, every thread is a pol proxy culture war, people just whine about random shit and make bait threads so that people give them (You)s, every post must be covered in 5 layers of ironyit got so bad I had to pick up literature and started to actually play video games, thanks I guess
>>739379684Blue /b/ is not the same, you need to see the occasional niggerdick. The issue is organized mental illness.
>>739379542Because it's not about throwing something on that's funny or cool anymore, like the days of ytp, ytmnd, or early newgroundsIt's about riding the algorithm waves, and begging for likes and subscribes while bending over for big daddy corpos so they can be a heckin entertainerino and not get a actual real job
>>739379818blue boards have never stopped the occasional nsfw posts so we got you covered with the black penis if that's what you need
>>739379016>no power hungry modssharty leak proved that there are unironic troon mods and jannies ruining this place
>>739379684>as long as we also have a video game board to talk about video gamesThis is why there are so many /v/-adjacent boards like /vrpg/. And also why /vg/ is the single busiest board on the site by a huge margin. The thread creation rate on /v/ is much higher than the posting rate because /v/ gets spammed with so many low-effort threads, mostly off-topic bullshit or culture-war garbage only tangentially related to games.
>>739379883Yeah but creating an offtopic thread feels like playing russian roulette. You never know if you trigger a Jannie and get banned
>>739379976>why /vg/ is the single busiest board on the site by a huge margin.I honestly thought it was because that board is just gacha freaks spamming hideous fanart all day. do they also talk about real games?
>>739379976I mean /vg/ is the "busiest board on the site" because it's a bunch of mental cases pretending to be dozens of people for whatever their pet interest is in, not because any actual game discussion goes on over there. You know, since that's what generals are, and why they're not allowed on /v/.Because they're not actually about games, even if you could and by design are intended to make that mistake. It happens on /v/ too, periodically, but it's typically not the case./v/'s split over a dozen boards because the admins wouldn't do their jobs and thought they could solve this problem by subdividing /v/ into lower population forks that would in theory require less moderation since each individual prong on the fork would have less but higher quality posters in it since it required navigating away from the main board and had lower response times.
>>739379078Same for me, started out in 2008 when I was mega underage, don't know where 18 years went. But I disagree with the notion that 4chan got worse. Rose-tinted glasses. Before captchas were introduced, I think in 2014 or so, there was times when every single board was filled with gigantic walls of spam you had to wade through. There was tons of tripfagging, avatarfags constantly shitting up, yuukari and much worse filth. Things are more mellow now, the highs aren't as exciting but the lows are much better.
>>739379598We turned /v/ into /b/-lite
>>739380273Prior to 2011 there was much more OC, and people trying without templates, which I think inherently lead to better culture. 2011 was the beginning of the end as OC died off and 4chan pivoted to "Anti culture", more fixated on what it isn't, than what it is.
I came here in 2014 to talk about the Undertale demo before the full game released
>>739380273It definitely got worse, I left this place when the GG shit happened and came back last year. The difference was night and day
>>739379439/a/ was so good back then
>>739380324>be me>post my dick on /v/>thread deleted in 20 seconds>gatcha porn thread from yesterday still up>get a 3 day vacationIt's not the same
>>739380549Recently the main thing that killed original content being made was the admins getting into ai and turning into bitter fags that hate people that can make even mspaint doodles. I would know, I got banned for posting some for three days
>>739380762You can make dickrate threads on /b/ though, what is different
>>739380762No one wants to see your micropenis unless it's on a eck.
>>739380549>. 2011 was the beginning of the end as OC died off and 4chan pivoted to "Anti culture"I disagree. Things like /v/ The Musical came from the post-2011 era and are my favorite things about this shithole. I personally think GG, the fappening, moot leaving, and the presidential election shifted things more than anything else. All of 4chan, and especially /v/, have felt way more culture-warry since. I also think some of it is just the average user age rising as we get older, and more people become politics "aware" (i.e., they consume "news" constantly and bitch about the good old days all the time).
>>739381026Still crazy to me the assclowns running this site hired a gay porn actor and made a fake proxy site to try and get people's dox and blackmail if they bought a steam deck because they were so mad.
>>739380914I don't like posting on /b/orn>>739381026It's not about the 'ick. And it's really not that small
>>739375956Before the thread dies due to auto sageWhy did you start browsing /v/,I was originally on /vp/ for the first few weeks I started using 4chanwhat brought you here?I knew about 4chans existence for a long while but I only decided to check this place out 4 years ago. When?2022 ancientfagWhy are you still here?Only place on the modern internet with an active community that discusses niche topics with zero censorship
>>739381026remember, anything under 6 inch is micro.
>>739381137Oh yeah, look at that, the retards running the board anchored the thread.Big gay and not the good way.
>>739380601I don't know man, you should appreciate how good we have it. I'm looking at the frontpage of /v/ right now and all of it is videogame related. Lots of threads with 200+ replies that are worthwhile to read if they appeal to your interests. No OC but also no tripfags. I like it.I remember thinking when the /v/ sideboards were added, that's the islands of civility being taken out of the sea of piss. /vst/ for actual discussion, /v/ for garbage shitposting. This seems to have changed a lot in the past five years or so. We can have perfectly fine discussion here without going straight to page 10 or being sagebombed or whatever.
>>739381275/pol/ fatigue is growing.i feel it.
>>739381117Who did what now? This place wouldn't be the same without the mentally ill.
>>739381275I think it's the recent captcha changes. I've noticed a lot less low-effort spam since they were implemented. Though there is still plenty, and almost every thread seems to have a 50/50 chance of devolving into /pol/shit immediately.
>>739375956I love vidya, so I checked it out back in the '00s. Despite the demoralizing zogbots, trolls, shills & general faggotry, it's kind of a nice place. It was better before normies & propaganda, but that's true for the whole internet.
>>739378214there was a thread 1-2 weeks that dumped pics of ace of spades
>>739381340I mean you're smart. You're not stupid enough to believe there was a super hacker secret proxy site for steam deck users to post to 4chan that solicited information about them and asked them to post their dicks online for any purpose besides blackmail, right?
>>739375956I joined 4chan around 2015/6 but didn't start actively going on /v/ till around 2022 I'd sayStayed for the occasional fun thread, game nights and the fact I can discuss /vg/ general games here without any of the resident autists
>>739381393Could be, I think it's also the fact that the average age on this site is probably over 30 now whereas it was definitely below 18 in the early days.
>>739381610I know about the site but didn't know about the dox/blackmail thing
I can't remember when or why I started going on 4chan, after 2016 but before a while before Christchurch. So maybe 2018 I think.I stuck to /m/ and rarely ventured outside, then /vp/ and /v/. I remember being sorta scared of /pol/, lolI come here way less now but this site remains for the better or the worse a relatively active hotspot of the internet so why not?
>>739381393>>739381894I really don't get this claim people make about specifically low effort spam being cut down at all, if we were talking, say, the entire board as a whole slowing down, I'd be inclined to agree with you. But specifically the garbage, I'd have to say at best you don't know what you're talking about, and at worst I get the impression that you're intentionally trying to reassure people that the board is totally getting better.Which it isn't, it's just being the same amount of shit, at a slower speed.
>>739375956>Other places are worse and will ban me for correcting people's wrong opinions>On and off for about 15 years>There are barely other places to go to.
>>739381275The average poster who came here during the past 15 years is infinitely worse than the most bottom-of-the-barrel shit trips.
>>739381393You might be right. I've just realised how much nicer this place is without all the retarded fucking basedjak spam. Don't know what happened to that but a year ago it was still super common.
>>739382443all on shit tier
>>739380861>Recently the main thing that killed original content being made was the admins getting into aiIt was already dead when jewtube/reddit/instagram faggots started stealing and monetizing shit from here in the late 2010s. Of course posters are going to be discouraged if some faggot from there raked in clout for their work.
This is a really bad board and I only browse the catalog for generals. Usually I stay in /vg/
>>739382690I'm not racist but it's the thirdworld.
>>739382691/vg/ isnt any betterReddit if it was anonymous
>>7393759562016 oldfag, came here because they made my videogames woke and it was impossible to talk about it anywhere else
