Valve could never
I gained so much respect for Riot over this, maybe I should play more Valo and less cheater-infested CS
>>
is Riot suicidal
nevermind that this shit is surely illegal, they are one fucky-upsie away from bricking random people PCs and getting an entire Tyrannosaurus worth of unlubed phallic plastic up their nether
literally how can you ever coincive that "bricking other people's PC because you cheated at a videogame" is ever going to hold up in court
>>
>>739396376
retard
>>
>>739396376
the PCs are fine, they just need to enable some kinda software trigger if they wanna continue to cheat, which they can't, cause if they do the anticheat won't let them, and i think they only have to reboot without that or reinstall the OS, either way, fuck cheaters, this is the only way to stamp em out
>>
>>739396376
They're already damage controlling for that tweet a couple hours ago. Or I just checked, they made TWO of them explaining how "we cant actually brick PC's" while in the exact same tweet saying they can brick PCs
They really want their tiny little asian CCP asses stretched by a umbrella it seems
>>
if you think that cheaters don't deserve to have their PCs bricked you're not a real gamer anyways
>>
>>739395781
valve will never do this because they don't have to answer to shareholders and no sane developer wants to spend 8 hours a day working on spyware
>>
Riot is like total opposite of Valve, they hate linux and your right privacy.

The people playing this shit and allowing rootkits on their PCs deserve to be treated like subhumans, because they are.

riot's valorant kernel anticheat soft-bricked some hardware cheating devices that these cheater subhumans pay for to circumvent kernel anticheats and aimbot/wh on valorant

you know every intel CPU is a rootkit for israel anyway right? at least this way u get less cheaters

I don't get it. Those are graphics cards. Why would their anti chest fuck with your graphics card?

I'm just happy that anyone playing Valorant is having a bad day.

I'm surprised people just dont think about how actually fucking horrible that possibility is especially when company breeches have MASSIVELY ramping up in the past year

As this anon stated so clearly >>739398516, these are chink gamesharks and gamesharks are explicitly legal. One of Shitendo’s only losses in court was over the legality of gameshark, and if you read the opinion you’ll see the reason is it creates no permanent work - just like this does.
Cheaters will burn in hell, but I don’t think this will (or should) hold up in court and Riot should get assfucked by the judge.

cheaters inherently have a victim mindset that deludes them into justifying cheating in the first place, that's why they're fucking retarded and can't be reasoned with and should be culled from the normal population. That's how cry bullies work they lie and play victim. But no, nothing is permanently bricked the computer and cheat card will work again fine....as long as they uninstall the riot game they tried to cheat on.

why would it be illegal? you chose to install kernel level software and then broke their tos and did something you are not supposed to do with the software installed, and got fucked. people have their pcs fucked everyday by whatever random shit their os messes up. your case would just be one nobody but cheaters empathize with
>>
>>739404534
ToS is not the law.
>>
>>739395781
Riot are about to get absolutely fucked over this.
Blocking the device is fine, the fact it fucks with the device when vanguard is removed from the PC is where they messed up.
There is also a ton of well known issues of them causing a ton of EFI and hardware issues, previously this was chalked up as an unfortunate mistake but now that they are openly boasting about intentionally doing it they are going to get shat on.

You will see this being swept under the rug as much as possible by riot with them settling multiple legal suits against them with out of court payments.
>>
So the entire point of this PC component thing (what even is it?) was to get past Vanguard to cheat in Valorant? It's the very reason why it had a 6k pricetag?
>>
>>739405070
nothing will happen and cheaters will continue getting fucked
>>
>>739405105
the purpose if it is to bypass it, yes. but the technology can be used for other things too.
its probably that expensive because its custom made and whoever makes those can set the price high.

nintendo tried to sue gamesharks that are specifically made to cheat in games in a similar way and they got raped.
>>
>>739405105
Yeah it flags itself as an essential driver that windows needs to run (it doesn't but windows thinks it does) so it can hide from the kernal anti-cheat. It probably was designed for a Riot game specifically but this can be used to defeat any kernal level anti-cheat and the rich cheaters who buy this thing are probably preparing for a future of more games using the same anti-cheat tactics.
>>

Moron.
>>
>>739405138
Denial won't change a thing, paying out cheaters and other people that had devices damaged is extremely cheap compared to amount of publicity they are getting for this.

>>739405282
Well yes, a persons opinion of cheating is irrelevant. If you were to purchase expensive golf clubs which gave you an unfair advantage and took them to a tournament where the officials destroyed them in front of you they are still directly liable for damage to personal property. In this example the tournament gets the reputation of being "tough on cheaters" for the relatively cheap cost of the replacement cost of the damaged clubs.
>>739405105
The component registers itself as a hardware device which gives it a lot of privileges, including read/write access to the kernel level. the '$6000' price tag is bullshit. Real cost for these devices is $200-$1000.

>>
>>739405731
The cheat card is never actually bricked so the destroyed golf club analogy doesn't work.
>>
>>739405731
That analogy is shit for a variety of reasons.
>the dma device isn't actually destroyed
>the expensive golf clubs would be magic clubs that always get you a hole in one
>>
I miss when cheaters were some third worlder kid downloading an aimbot and not some degenerate loser dropping hundreds to thousands of dollars on it.
>>
>>739405731
PR wise this is an unmitigated disaster so far.
They had to make extra tweets explaining themselves that didnt get a quarter of the exposure of the original, the head anti cheat guy started sperging on twitter, all the riot "partners" and affiliates are running damage control while actual humans are shitting on them hard.

And it once again pushed the fact that kernel level anti cheat is way too extreme to the front.
>>
>>739406193
>the head anti cheat guy started sperging on twitter
he does this all the time
one thing the "old guard" like valve and blizzard does right is that they shut the fuck up about their anticheat
the players don't need to know, they will misinterpret everything you say
>>
>>739405907
It is a largely simplified analogy to cover a variety of instances. Riot have historically intentionally pushed junk firmware onto detected devices leading them to an unrecoverable state, they have also done similar with people using publicly vulnerable motherboards to exploit EFI loading, some of these motherboards could be recovered through qflash and similar utilities but others lacked that functionality and were bricked.

I haven't personally looked into this recent change passed the HVCI flag changes but knowing their past efforts I doubt they've changed unless they've fired half their dev team.
>>
>>739406193

>>
>>739406416
so, just their spyware doing their spyware thing?
with a chink image and vagueposting they made the worst ever pr for that thing lol
>>
>>739406507
The tweet was mocking cheaters who spent a lot of money to cheat in riot games only for it to be a paperweight. They are free to continue using the PC and cheat card for something else though.
>>
It's funny seeing people claim Riot is going to be sued for this. I live in a place with some of the strongest consumer protection laws around and trying to sue for this is the legal equivalent of putting a loaded shotgun in your mouth.
>>
>>739406582
the problem was i think, their anticheat is already notorious for invasive kernel level integration and dont really work nonetheless
with that 6k price tag they mentioned for some reason (which is the number the media PR team pulled out of their ass)
with all that already bad reputation people just assumed that it might be doing something destructive or something, which is a huge logical leap but also the 'mocking' tweet was retarded by itself
>>
>>739406416
This is PR cover.
I have been reversing and claiming exploit bounties from riot in my free time since 2023, I have literally captured their malicious payloads in my VM along with encountering a few other malicious things we had to whitelist in the anti-rootkit dev team I am a part of.

For my own amusement heres some recent work I did, I reported an EFI loader exploit chain I made to reverse Vanguard, Ricochet and EAC. Vanguard just sigged the loader, Ricochet did nothing, EAC detected entirely and doubled the normal bounty
>>
>>739406193
Riot also does this shit. Remember when Arcane came out and the retards said that Viktor's original design sucked which pissed off all the original players and then they said that Viktor also wasn't gay which pissed off all the new fans who were fujos. So Tencent had to send out an executive to correct the record and mollify the fans.

Everyone in that whole company has main character syndrome.
