>uncs had to cough up 35 bucks to save their games
Explain this
>>
Note me, I had an xbox
>>
>>739405221
i think i didnt have one until i got metal gear solid i remember i played almost to the end without one and the power got turned off
>>
You broccoli heads spend $35 every month on season passes and Fortnite skins. Go fucking kill yourselves.
>>
Every Zoomer plays Fortnite because some retarded nigger just like me told me so it must be true

not me I was too broke to afford games. I would walk to a friend's house to play his games.

Do you really need to “save” in FIFA?
>>
>>739405221
>zoomers pay more than twice what we do for consoles
>the use said consoles to play fortnight, which is a literal interactive commercial/corporate IP dumping ground like something out of a satirical corponightmare dreamt up as absurd in the 90s.
>>
>>739405221
Yea, but y'know what was cool? You could bring your save to another friend's house and play on that. It was great for fighting games that required you to spend hours playing to unlock everyone. I still remember bringing my Soulcalibur II save to a buddies house with Lizardman on it. That fucker took me probably 100 hours to get.

fpbp, felt good to be an Xbox chad until 360 killed off Xbox forever.
>>
>>739405221
Uncs also only paid <$300 for their consoles.
There was also save file copy culture where friends would collab to unlock all features/ characters in a game.

The original Xbox is underrated.
>>

Not to mention:
>go for more than 6 months without PS+/ NSO/ etc. and all-- ALL-- your cloud saves disappear
I feel like a massive faggot getting NSO and PS+ twice a year for one month each, once in May and once in November, but I can't stand the thought of not having save files backed up because modern consoles can take the piss at any time and I do not want to lose my shit.
>b-but USB
Can't copy Switch or PS5 files to one.

But then you didn't deny that it was racist, and not wanting to be (very) racist (remember the Avenue Q song, everyone's a little bit racist after all) doesn't have to be ''reddit'', so yeah, try not to be racist. Besides, it's even against the rules if one isn't on b.

Used to be that a 1MB hard drive was a lot of memory and expensive.
>>
>>739410998
>usb drive is five dollars
>memory card is 35 dollars
>>
The first consumer flash drive was 8MB and $50
>>
Newflash, game discs aren't writeable
>>
>>739412618
*rewritable
>>
>>739412465
>usb drive IS
Operative word: is. IS. Not WAS.
Also, if I remember right, the cards were $25. I guess with inflation, they'd be a bit more today.
Still. Easily backing files up. No "account login" shit in-console to complicate things.
IMO the whole account thing ruined console gaming. Shouldn't need to be on the same "profile" to use your save data.
>>
online + hard drives were a mistake. it enabled DLC and the releasing a broken game then patching it with like 17 patches model.
>>
>>739412661
>didn't buy one before AI took all drives
You should have over 10 by now.
>>
>>739412750
true. before that you had to rebuy the game to get the latest patch.
>>
>>739412618
N64 tendies acting all smug with their carts until the battery on those inevitably dies and wipes all your saves, nintendo also moved to optical disc+memory card for the gamecube,
>>
>>739412783
I still have three PS2 memory cards and two PS1 cards. They all still work/ hold saves. After between 20-30 years. I highly doubt any current-gen console-- as well as its internal storage-- will still work in 30 years from now.

Yesterday I gave my spare Switch Lite to my zoomer gf who never touched vidya in her life thinking she would try something like Super Mario or Kirby on Nintendo Classics. The very first thing she did was download Fortnite to “see what the hype is about.” The very first games her zoomer friends told her to play were Minecraft and Roblox. Not even Pokemon or Animal Crossing, which have always been the standard tendie normalfag girl games. Your generation just has irredeemably shit taste. It’s astounding how terrible it is.

No, writeable, game discs are stamped, they weren't written on the first place.
>>
>>739412907
same difference
>>
>>739412894
Still amazes me after personally going through 1000s of discs how I've only experienced disc rot maybe 3 times max. You could tell by the cases that the previous owner gave zero fucks about making sure they weren't being either chewed on by the family dog/child or just got straight-up swept away in a flood.
>>
>>739413274
Not exactly. Twin Snakes is NOTORIOUS for having the worst disc-pressing imaginable. Every copy that still exists without disc rot is just a ticking time bomb. I still have Saturn/ PS1/ Sega CD games that are still devoid of any rot. Again, Twin Snakes is a special case.
>>
>>739413274
I >>739413350 >>739412894 should also elaborate: It's a damn shame because Twin Snakes was one of the very few noteworthy exclusives that the Gamecube had going for it.
>>
>>739405221
Just a heads up, those are Canadian prices. Controllers were 24.99 and Memory cards were the same. I remember being so shocked by having an official PS2 controller for 25 then PS3 wants to charge 60 bucks for a shitty sixaxis
>>
>>739413350
Certain prints/presses of any optical media (even blu-rays) were just made really badly and their days are numbered. I think this even applies to laser discs
>>
>>739412465
And a yearly online sub you actually have to pay for to back your console saves up is $60+, what's your point
>>
>>739411390
Niggersneed.
>>
>>739405221
Brown
>>
>>739412661
You're right, but it was mega gay when you had 6 siblings and 3 save slots
>>
>>739413617
I'll admit the PS1 card's space was stingy, but at least PS2 cards had storage space vs slots. Both are still better than needing cloud storage as a backup for your files, should your console take the piss.
>>
>>739411296
>>739405451
>>739405221
Xbox was so far ahead of PS2 it's not even funny.
>built-in hdd
>save card slot in the controller
>built-in network card
>better graphics
It was a generation ahead.
>>
>>739405451
I had an Xbox until like the very tail end of the generation when the PS2 exclusives became too much to ignore.

My parents got the Xbox for free with some cable internet contract, so its not like I picked my console side willingly.
>>
Unironically a better system than we have now. We had direct access to our save files and could do anything we wanted with them.

Now we need to "ensure the integrity of the trophy system" so we cannot copy and move them at will or use cheat devices or whatever.
>>
>>739413479
It applies more to laser discs those things are falling apart.
>>
>>739413512
Xbox has free cloud saves. Not a lot of people know this.
>>
>>739405221
They still charge you for whatever onboard memory you get on a new console, you idiot.
>>
>>739413748
There was definitely a lot of soul to how old memory cards worked. I feel like it's basically inevitable that profiles would have came around, even if we managed to keep all the super Jewish shit like subscriptions out. I don't see how you could reasonably accommodate online play without some kind of account separate from the console.
>>
>>739411296
It had no games except for a few PC ports.
>>
>>739414242
Should consoles have even been taken "online" though?

That's a PC thing. Its been super retarded how consoles have lost everything unique about themselves.
>>
>>739414551
>Should consoles have even been taken "online" though?
Not as a primary focus, no. Going online is cool and all and I find it very engaging, but signing-in is the first action you take when you boot up your console these days. I don't like that and how consoles are more centered on online play.
>>
>>739414551
At least we got some cool shit with the original Xbox's capability, like Phantom Dust and Steel Battalion matches. I will however concede that Xbox Live, as a paid service model, was the beginning of the end.
>>
>>739405221
that felt like 1 dollar before the recesion.
