Tekken 9 will be brought forward in response to Tekken 8 not meeting internal sales expectations.
There will be improved twitch, youtube, and x.com integration.
Heat mode has been scrapped, every character will instead have access to a devil mode (Jin and Kazuya get angel modes instead for story reasons)
Stepping has been scrapped, characters are locked infront of each other and have access to crouch block, normal block, neutral jump, and parry. Launchers initiate a scripted combo cutscene and then reset the position. This is in response to complaints of Tekken 8 being too aggressive and stressful to play.
Female characters have been scrapped, online usage rates show that people only play male characters anyway.
Characters at launch will be Kazuya, Jin, Heihachi, Lee, Paul, Law, King, Kuma, Shaheen, Leo, Eddy, Hwoarang, Steve, the return of fan favorite Bruce, a new character who has a moveset very similar to Kazumi and looks like very similar to Kazumi but is male, and guest character Terry Bogard.

it's a long process where you have to just keep playing and slowly learn new things as you go
if you really wanted to optimize it you could always add people that play x character to better get experience against them instead of relying on learning shit in the ft2 queues where you aren't guaranteed to see the characters you'd prefer
learning matchups one-by-one in lobbies would allow you to pinpoint focus on just one character at a time which would be a lot more efficient
fundamentals are something you can always work on on the side but in tekken understanding what all the characters in the game can do is arguably more important since if you don't know what's going on then you can't utilize stepping/blocking/punishing/pressure/creating whiffs/mindgames etc well and will get caught out by fake stuff constantly
and yes all of this will take hundreds or even thousands of hours to become really competent at

But in the actual game how can I even begin to intuit what the fuck is punishable, what the fuck hits high, what is safe, what is steppable and where I can step it? There's simply so much shit going on in this game at any given moment, every character has a ton of strings, lots of mid/low finishers, lots of crushing moves, parries and there aren't even tells to tell me if something is a legit punish, I need to actually go look at frame data and see that I did punish it and it wasn't just him not holding back.
