I've always thought the best way to do both a pistol and SMG is to treat the SMG as a competitor to the pistol - same ammo pool, similar damage, but one is fast spray and pray DPS and the other is an accurate reliable tool for headshotting trashmobs. If you're willing to risk using something like a melee weapon as your trash clearer then you can afford to magdump heartier enemies with the SMG (and save ammo for even more powerful weapons to be used against even harder enemies) so there's a big risk/reward implication based on playstyle.

They do use the same ammo (that's why both of their grips are green), so that was a consideration as well.

It feels like I'm checking out on my game. When I finished devving I went back to working on making that consolidated file of all my dream games. All my ideas are currently spread out physically and mentally but I didn't even get many of them onto the list. I got preoccupied with important details. The strength of the GMI vibes from some of my best ideas.... I fear this does not bode well for my current multi-year game. I need to hurry up and finish it as it now just feels like it's holding me back. For reasons I will not go into, I already know it is likely NGMI. Unless I can see a guarantee of it pulling around 1000 reviews worth of sales, I simply do not see much reason to go the whole scope. Sure it may be good practice but not all my dream games would make use of the knowledge gained. At the same time I cannot project hop, I've been at it for far too long. I hate this predicament I'm in. My sense say to drop it but it'll hang in the back of my head.

Safe place to store all my gamedev dream games? I fear someone getting a hold of the electronic version and running off with GMI ideas.

Eric didn't use a licensed engine to make Stardew Valley, he made his own engine using the XNA Framework, then later switched to Monogame for updates. He is making a new engine again for Haunted Chocolatier, still using Monogame.
Pixel made his own engine to make Cave Story (not sure what kind of library or framework he used if any).

Even with them being in the, iirc, top 50 most wishlisted games they flopped before even getting rich. At worst they were in the top 150 most wishlisted.

Now what's concerning is, how do these popular games flop? The interest is already there before release so wouldn't they end up selling a ton before people wisened up to the actual quality of the game? Something just doesn't add up here even with the game at 67% positive, the amount of time it'd take for these reviews to come in versus how quickly someone could pull out their credit card makes no sense.
