Finished the story, its quite mid desuThe story is very shallow in its portrayal of its themes.Its wants you to think a certain way about war and its consequences, but it only portrays it in a one-sided perspective between the 'enemies'; we don't see the other perspective of said 'enemies' to humanise or see them as anything else than 'the others' to the side the narrative chooses to focus on.The story between charon (previously paul) would've been a great opportunity to showcase this perspective about young men being misled by the promise of fame and glory for the protection of their homeland. It could've focused on the naivety of these young men and how the war has formed them into the current self (so as of 1920 in the setting). The idea is there (just on the same perspective which is one of the problems), but its execution is also very 'shallow' in the sense that its given no time to brew, so the death of paul's friend felt bland and forced, as we barely saw the motivations of both himself and actions of both himself and that of his enemies to justify feeling/caring about remorse (using the idea of being in a war as a proxy to say he's done bad things isnt very convincing and neither the one situation presented in the story)There's a lot more wrong with the story, but overall, its feels very half-baked in its themeology, ideas and execution (even if they are decent themselves).The worst part of the story is the manus inclusion, since everything is blamed onto them (which occurred with previous stories as well)I quite like the pacing of the nodes and the idea of what they wanted to execute though
