>New to the Musou-verse?
The musou genre is expansive so this is a quick terms rundown, but see the newcomer pastebin for more information.
>Dynasty Warriors - the original, mainline series based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel
>XL / Xtreme Legends - essentially expansions for DW games
>Empires - a light strategy DW spin-off, you conquer & manage territory instead of following a story
>Samurai Warriors - DW, but based on Japan's history
>Warriors Orochi - Crossover between DW & SW
>Romance of the Three Kingdoms - an epic novel, telling a romanticized version of historical events
>There's multiple other IP spin-offs with Musou gameplay, including One Piece and Zelda.
>Romance of the Three Kingdoms - A series of video games set in China during the fall of the Han Empire.

How cruel a fate, to know that life is but months away but to be denied news of it day after day.
>>
please ignore the lu bu at yi ling as that is silly. if there is one thing dw9 did I enjoy its letting you mess in other people's stories. fun to beat everyone up with lu bu. sadly they dont react as if it's him and give him the generic replies to people not in their force or that musou story freemode.
>>
Damn... It's over already...
why is DW so quotable
>>
Hi. Question.

Regarding DW Origins. Are Zhang Jiao and Lu Bu the only ones that have that level of boss fights?

I just reached Chapter 3's opening and currently have to contribute or something to each faction but I'm extremely disappointed that I've only have one grand boss fight. Even Lu Bu disappeared out of nowhere. I did fight him during the assassination but I kinda turned the difficulty down on that one because I wanted to progress.
>>
>>545913349
They're the only bespoke bosses like that, though some later officers have very high Courage and are challenging to fight. If you join Liu Bei or Cao Cao you will get a rematch with Lu Bu later in the story
>>
>>545913349
Zhang Jiao and Lu Bu are the only ones with standalone boss levels, but certain officers in the last few stages are arguably on a similar level.
You'll fight Lu Bu a few times if you join Cao Cao, whereas Liu Bei gets to join in for the final encounter against Lu Bu. Sun family dodges Lu Bu altogether, but instead they have to deal with Gan Ning's Musou Rage spam at Xiakou.

Any good Dynasty Warriors sex parody comics I can go look up. I think there's a special name for those in Japan but I can't remember it.

Always liked how many voiced dialogue lines the games have if you bothered to count. It's pure undistilled sovl
DW5 is fucking insane if you count musou mode narration, XL modes and Empires. Holy shiiit

Don't be hasty! Wait for reinforcements.

I'm probably going to get Legend of Zelda the new Warriors game for Christmas.
>>
>>545938497
sweet. I haven't grabbed it and will wait for awhile. Im still playing the older musou games.
>>
>>545938497
It's good. Not HWDE levels of content but I'm enjoying it more than the BotW one. I really like how TotK's weird abilities are integrated into the movesets of characters like Rauru who uses ultra hand to move his spear around or Mineru who whips up bullshit contraptions for attacks with autobuild.
>>
I played hyrule warriors on switch a bit before losing the cart. It had enough fan service to keep me interested but I remember being bored by the gameplay. I have a bit of a different mindset now so I'm about to play it on my new 3ds xl. I'm hoping the gameplay will click with me enough to want to play the botw derived ones because while I like those games, the non committal anime characters don't appeal to me as much as playing as ruto or darunia does.
I understand that it will run like ass compared to switch, but I find you adjust to that pretty quick
>>
>>545948985
Do you have access to the DLC for Legends? If not then the Switch version might be worth playing instead. Those characters and adventure maps are the most fun in the game.
>>
>>545948985
Not just you. Hyrule Warriors gets boring real quick.

I don't like Origins. It feels like it's a DW game for people who don't like DW games and that makes we worry for the future of the series.
>>
>>545968030
I would've bought Origins if they had Lingqi in the game.
>>
>>545968030
it looks fun for massive combat but I and many others still play the other games.
>>
>>545968030
It's the opposite for me, as someone that prefers the older games I like it more than anything released since DW6.
>>
>>545974709
But it doesn't play like the older games either
>>
>>545968030
Have to agree with this.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want the series to stagnate into whatever DW6-8 was doing, and I don't want the open world meme from 9 either, but Origins is DW only in name. Fine for a quirky experimental spin-off, but I wouldn't want to see the rest of the series trying to follow in its footsteps.
Hopefully DW3R will set a direction that's closer to the established formula, but since we are going to back to 3 it will bring back some forgotten game elements that people used to like. You are never going to see anyone doing "fun" all ally survive/all enemy officer defeated challenges in numusou because they simply lack that mechanical depth.
>>
>>545968030
I think Origins is the best Musou game I've ever played, but it would've been better if we had a regular cast of playable characters and campaigns with Origin mechanics instead of a CYOA where everyone wants to fuck Ziluan.
>>
>>545988374
Think it tried too hard to take from modern action games but without much consideration for whether that makes any sense in DW or not. Seeing the equivalent of a stagger bar on enemy officers was a massive eyeroll moment.
>>
>>545988605
I didn't like the idea of the stagger bar when I first played the demo, but it 'clicked' when I got into the rhythm of dodge > build Bravery > dump Bravery via Battle Arts to deplete Fortitude faster. That being said, it is actual horseshit that so many enemy officers have attacks with such delayed animations to trick you into dodging too early, and they only get away with it because of their super armour. But I like the parry and dodge/dodge cancel mechanics more than I dislike the super armour.
>>
>>545989016
>That being said, it is actual horseshit that so many enemy officers have attacks with such delayed animations to trick you into dodging too early
That's part of the taking from other action games, also includes stuff like the glowing tells and perfect parry/dodge mechanics yes parry/counter existed in PS2 games too, but you can straight up ignore them and just hold block

>You are never going to see anyone doing "fun" all ally survive/all enemy officer defeated challenges in numusou because they simply lack that mechanical depth

People were literally doing this since demo released, trying to get all allies to survive the stage It even gave an ally tally at the end of the stage. I've been playing since dw2 and origins is the most DW game since the PS2 era, it's only missing the large roster but the general gameplay and polish is so much better than everything else in the past 20 years it doesn't bother me at all.
>>
>>546030028
>origins is the most DW game since the PS2 era
I really can't see it. Does its own thing, and it's not necessarily bad in a vacuum, but it feels like I'm playing something else entirely dressed as DW.
That being said, I hope DW3R will not be an Origins clone.
>>
>>546030754
>Does its own thing
> it feels like I'm playing something else entirely dressed as DW

Can you explain in detail what you mean by that? Not having a big roster? That's a shame but given the rosters of the earlier games were basically mechanically clones with different models, that has little gameplay impact. Is it the combat actually having some depth and requiring reaction skills? Or is it the new battle sim mechanics that weren't in the earlier games like the massive large force charges? The grand tactics? The 50 bodyguards and their tactics? Courage impacting on-screen battle performance? It's just funny you claim it lacks mechanical depth when it objectively has more battlefield mechanical depth that anything since 5 and arguably even more than 2 - 5 as well, as while it misses individual officer morale and lieutenants (which I'd like to see return), it makes up for it with new battle sim features missing from those titles.

I just wish the battles weren't so fast paced, so the player has the time to enjoy them a bit more.
>>
>>546033109
>Not having a big roster?
That is one, but not what I was thinking.
>Is it the combat actually having some depth and requiring reaction skills?
The combat functions differently indeed, now with an emphasis on blocks/dodges, bravery build-up, and stagger to do the big dick damage move. PS2 DW games were more about crowd control, although DW4 briefly introduced duels. Splitting up troops from officers was something you had to work for, either by using allies/bodyguards or engaging them slowly if you are alone.
>Or is it the new battle sim mechanics that weren't in the earlier games like the massive large force charges?
>The grand tactics?
>The 50 bodyguards and their tactics?
Don't mind them much. The bodyguards are good actually, gives some hope they will be ported to DW3R.
>Courage impacting on-screen battle performance?
This one is a very weird choice, why not just merging it with morale so it does something similar both onscreen and offscreen?
>I just wish the battles weren't so fast paced
That's also something I don't like, but it comes from games made before Origins too.

IIRC, Courage arrows actually started in 6, but they didn't explicitly buff combat performance in the same way.

Its fun to load up dw9 and grab a level 83 lu bu and go beat up everyone with no mercy in low difficulty in free mode stories.

That's not courage, DW6 simplified morale from the 8 star morale system to 5 arrows. High, above average, average (no arrow) below average and low.

what does east asian genocide general think of that new zelda musou

how is SW2 empires compared to dw5:E? Thinking back to ps2 days, I had SW1&2 but don't think i got the empires releases
>>
>>546104896
sw2 empires is great .has tons of things making it a bit better in some ways than dw5e including shops to level skills and horses and formations and tons of tactics dw5e doesnt. quite a bit of fun and it has the compact maps to beat in like 15 turns if you want or less.
>>
>>546104896
Straight upgrade in gameplay terms, you can do everything DW5E does + more.
As the other anon mentioned, there is also a lot more map variety and the strategy part is expanded in battles with the addition of the formations system.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned often though, it has a very aggressive stat scaling system, based on the troops difference between armies. Since you start with low troop numbers on your first playthrough, expect a tough challenge until you eventually have more troops.
>>
Father! Let me bump the thread
>>
>>546117228
Hmm... who the fuck am I kidding this isn't your first bump. I shall expect good things!
