Focus on jewelry and jewels, use less int/str/dex nodes to minimize armor drops. check craft of exile and try to exclude or not increase mods with the most weight. Life, for example is a shit mod since its super common anyway and has life regen which almost no one wants, so I neither increase nor decrease it on my tree even if I want items with life mods. Craft of exile has tree crafting too, but it doesn't work for some item types.

But lightning skills are slightly better since you'll have more lightning scaling and still benefit from spell base damage.So you can just try good spells and see if you like it.When I played archmage some time I liked Storm Call. You already get like 100% free inc aoe from Hierophant and then with awakened spell cascade you have tons of aoe. You might need some reduced skill duration for that though, can't remember.

Aim for 3.5-4k life at the start of maps (end of campaign). 6k life very late game. High tier life rolls on all gear helps with that. Keeping armor values updated helps too and you won't feel like paper as long as you upgrade armor bases.All this changes in late maps as you'll need multiple layers of defense and high dps. Don't worry about that for now as a new player.

Not sure why, but 3.27 endgame feels a bit… boring to play Right now, I don’t really have anything to aim for, and I’m basically forcing myself to keep playing. The new breach mechanics and the tree are fun, but they mostly carry the game only through mid-game. Once you hit end-game, there isn’t much going on, and the big nerfs to end-game farming make it feel like progression stops way earlier than it used to.I really hope the promised changes bring back some purpose to keep pushing.
