Early Chorf vs Empire matchup is really fun: your hobgobbos lose to swordmen juuuust barely, so you need Warriors mixed in to eke out a victory. Early they have more artillery and ranged than you, so you gotta get to backlines asap: because wolf riders lose even to Empire Knights, you gotta be very sneaky to get around them (and bait them to your blunderbusses if possible)

So, after playing Troy and Pharaoh for 100 hours of Odysseus only (my fav Greek character) on each game, Im gonna give my thoughts on both games based purely off Odysseus' campaign, Mythos and Dynasty mode respectively>Odysseus MythosOdysseus' start is a blessing and a curse; blessing because he starts off really safe but a curse because everyone on the coast is essentially best friends, which makes Odysseus' plan of action limited. The game tries to trick you to go North but thats a trap, expanding North is a massive pain in the ass and leaves you further isolated, not to mention most of those settlements arent worth the hassle to take over dealing with constant wars being declared up there when you can grab the Cyclops island instead and then head towards Knossos. Having goals in his campaign are pretty cool, feels like a story campaign but if you dont take Knossos you are severely limiting yourself with options to continue his story since most his campaign expects you to be near Troy after his initial spy mission. Odysseus' roster is a bit limiting, all his best units come at the end and his mythos options are lacking if you arent following his campaign objectives. Odysseus' roster is lacking a lot until you get to his endgame then he gets some of the best units in the game, only lacking a good chariot option. Mythos units are kind of lacking too desu which is a shame, they dont feel too special and Harpies are too weak to be gamechanging, in fact most mytho units that aren't the ones that you can only recruit 1 of or lategame Centaur units change anything. Maintaining friendships, however is easy and his ports provide a lot of food and most enemies wont try to declare war on him unless its from Troy's side, even then, Ithaca is almost never bothered unless somebody North or you wants to declare war. The Hydra is a nice compliment to Odysseus' army in general especially if you get ambushes; Guerilla Ambushers and the Hydra are broken. Solid 7/10.

Everyone also seems to easily hate you more and are willing to declare war on you, regardless of barter agreement or NAP, Ive had Ajax declare war on me too many times to count and dealing with multiple enemies at a time is a massive pain especially since youll barely be fielding a stack while theyll have 2, more often than not. The Wanax court system is awesome and taking Perseus gets you free peace treaties and resources every few turns, you just have to trade shitty ancillaries for it which you shoule be aiming to get a lot of to begin with. Odysseus' roster has more variety now as does everyone else's because of the way the military buildings work in this by giving every1 a native roster then giving every1 unique units. All of Odysseus' late game units are a lot more boring this time around, no Warriors of Ithaca which were great frontliners or Odysseus' Midnight Runners which were amazing shock infantry and instead he gets boring (but strong) Knossian Archers and boring (but tanky) Armored Spearmen. For some reason, the guy known for fielding sneaky Javelin units in Troy now only has the Exemplar Ambushers and they lag behind Knossian Archers a lot. Odysseus has no unique campaign unlike major factions so it feels like an older TW game where theres no real gimmicks, the Court system kind of makes up for it but it does feel a bit sad to have my fav character from Greek mythology not feel special. Overall id give the campaign an 8/10 in terms of my enjoyment. Pharaoh ended up being a more in-depth game while Troys fantasy aspects make that game more fantastic.

Fun Rome 2 factions/campaigns that aren't Rome?Looking for a strong roster and a good challenge. Was looking at Parthia, but I feel a horse fucker faction would be better in Attila. Cimmeria would be cool because they can have decent line holders, but no cataphracts is whack.
