This is the first time their reveal in any of these games or merch without them slapping a giant IDW publishing logo all over them. I think it makes sense to show they did start from the comics because it is their debut. They didn't start from the games and all the panels they show come from the miniseries which indicates to me that they want people to look at their backstory. Btw, the japanese trailer just introduces them the same way as Nights and Aiai, no fanfare, they're just here.Also there is something in the code that makes a distinction between what comes from a crossworld and what comes from a "travel ring" which ties into the Synopsis for the tie-in comic.

Sonic SatAM was directly addressed by Paramount in 2021 when they distributed the Creator packages. The character can be used for that context specifically. Sega just doesn't like using dead characters and Sonic Team doesn't like using characters they didn't make. She's also a Sega of America character. Not a Sonic Team character. That means that legally even though she falls under the Sonic IP she belongs to a different faction within Sega and can only appear (and has only appeared) in media with the SOA trademark.
