What is THE Ultimate Eggman Robot? Not in the Omega sense. What I mean is, what is the most purest form of the very idea of an "Eggman robot"? The prime example. Omega? E-123 Omega represents E-102 Gamma, who at his core is just an Egg Robo. Gamma's gameplay style is EGGMAN's gameplay, as shown by Sonic Adventure 2. Which means that Omega is an Egg Robo, "Metal Eggman" basically. The Eggman version of Metal Sonic. Egg Pawns and Egg Fighters can be classified under that same idea. Robots built in the image of their creator. Fighting an Egg Pawn, an Egg Fighter, E-102 Gamma or E-123 Omega are just different flavors of fighting Doctor Eggman himself. But as we all know, not all badniks come in the shape of the egg. Throughout the Origins titles, we do not see "Egg Robo" until Sky Sanctuary of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. In fact, the very first badniks we ever see is Motobug, followed by Buzz Bombers, Chompers and Crabmeats in Green Hill Zone. These robots are built in the image of various animal creatures. That remained the broad theme for all Badniks until around Sonic Heroes where the shift was made to mass-produced Egg Pawns, and then the E-2000s. Then Sonic 06 gave us the Egg Gunners, fitting its much more "realistic" aesthetic, before Sonic Unleashed gave us the Egg Fighters, which just look like Egg Pawns 2.0. Colors and Generations saw a return to the "classic" badniks, as part of the nostalgia trip down memory line that would saturate the meta era, and now that's where we've largely circled back to. But, I now feel the need to ask... What IS an "Eggman Robot" at its purest form? What SHOULD "Eggman's Robots", the "Badniks", actually be like? What should the basis for Eggman's robots be? When our lead protagonist is "the fastest thing alive" whose primary attack method is curling into a spinning ball of blades, what should his primary opposition actually be like? How do Badniks actually pose a threat to Sonic? What should their gameplay function be like?
