There's actually some level of exploration, the card battles are better than the shallow, janky action combat, the buff system is more complex (because the game itself is more complex), and the way that events are handled is fairly interesting. Come to think of it, why would you make a game about climbing giant towers and have them be linear? Plenty of games have more complex towers. They also could have made them more castle-like.In terms of writing, I don't hate edgy anime stories, but so far, it's hardly Nier Automata, Higurashi, or Nikke. I liked SS's cast immediately and continue to like the new characters, but I don't really care about anyone here. Edgy openings can be a hard place to establish likable characters, though. It's usually when things cool off that you learn to like them.
