Day 12 of trying to figure out wtf UEBS2 exactly did to be able to handle battles with 6+ millions units.
I can barely reach 5 millions, and that's only with dumb particles that don't even interact with each others yet.

It's nearly all done in compute shaders, yet I'm CPU-bound as fuck. According to profiler it's nearly half just from having to feed BatchRenderGroup the full visibility list every frame (wish there was a "don't bother with culling, display everyone you have their matrices already" option).
The other half is the always unhelpful "Wait for present on GFX thread" line, which I guess is just due to the raw amount of poly to display (currently it's quads, simply switching to a basic cube make the performances nearly 5 time worse)

Guess I will have to ditch BatchRenderGroup and use some other mass-rendering API, but it's supposed to be Unity's newest/optimizest one so I have no fucking clue what UEBS2 used.

I spam std::vector everywhere, only sometimes I have to use a map or a list.
You can use std::vector even if you need to remove elements from the middle, as long as you don't do that too often and vector isn't too big in bytes.

Lists are horrible they are bad for cpu cache, you have every list item in different memory location, cpu needs to jump a lot.

Map is sometimes useful if you need to access data with a key like a string.

I don't even know any other containers because I use std::vector 90% of times.

if I had to give an example I would say Rain World is a game unlike anything I have ever played or seen before. you really feel like you're a weak primitive animal on the lower end of the food chain exploring a dangerous world you don't fully understand. you don't have many tools, the game doesn't hold your hand, everything is diegetic and it makes you very connected to the characters position. it's frustrating, unfair, harsh and difficult. but then if you don't quit you slowly get better at the game and learn to navigate through this strange ecosystem. at the beginning of the game you don't fully understand it yet as it's becomes clear later on as you play, but by getting better and learning to survive and fight back against predators you are not just ascending the food chain but also spiritually ascending. this in-game spiritual ascension happens because you as a player overcome the frustration and are patient and persistent, which is a sublime way to connect you to the character and mirror the out of game experience with the in-game one. really can't recommend this game enough.

As a Steam user, gamer and consumer I don't find these titles to be descriptive enough. Usually when I encounter something like this I will be sure to wishlist and then never buy it.
Ideally, a game should have a snappy and descriptive title that is very explicit. Example:

It's not supported at the moment but I've been pushing my contacts at Valve to add an AI hashtag detection system where hashtags can be added within capsule images as searchable terms to boost visibility. That way, you can add a whole bunch of them to get exposure with new audiences, example being adding Action Platformer to my Visual Novel game. It keeps the platform streamlined, and most importantly, profitable.

I wanted to warn about a scam going on the v3expo discord some moderator is pming users and offering to give away 1 year of claude code and comet browser to make gamedev easier. They then give you invite link to comet browser which gets them 3 dollars and then they tell you to login with your gmail account, they tell you to login on mobile first to sync your mobile data like gmail, contacts, etc to it. the game is a city builder, people/resource manager with bits of story and dialogs and what not. Yet the aspects of these main parts of the game are sub par. There is nothing interesting about it, and the little it has is already done much better by other titles.
The city building you've already done in other games, the resource and people managing is mostly just opening and closing UI windows - how fun (and also done better in other games).
The story aspect... I mean, just read the dialog. AI could have done that better. Bland reddit tier dialogs with ugly characters? Whoa I would LOVE that! Now that makes me wanna download it and spend my time playing it. Time I could have otherwise wasted on other games that do city building, managing or dialogs/story much better!
Just look up gameplay on youtube of the game and try coming up with one reason why people would wanna play it.
Who cares if the devs are "experienced", that means nothing.
