I used to be irked by that as well him always wanting the interview to circle back to himself and his project but hey, it takes a special kind of person to put their face on everything they do and I don't judge him, if he wasn't "the" Thomas Brush he probably wouldn't be as successful and that requires a certain level of narcissism. I find funny how the /biz/ side of agdg is only a recent phenomena, of maybe 2-3 years.

I still remember agdg goal was simply to make a fun game, or being a huge popular hit like undertale or flappy bird.

Most people walk around thinking they can win fights, despite never having fought before. It's the best thing that could possibly happen. The more gamedevs focusing on actually making the thing and not getting stuck in the trap of posting progress for eternity the better. Bokube is the most startling example of this. Someone with a forevergame who simply cannot bring themselves to finish it year after year but posts the game on the internet 5,000 times every year. He doesn't need the money, he isn't serious about being professional. He is the eternal hobby dev.

It is one of the few technical skill based meritocracies left in the world, and it is one of the few industries where a small indie dev can scale up and reach a full international market.

The inherent problem with meritocracies is that low-skill midwits like you cannot compete. Actual production work on a high-quality video game is not enjoyable. It's is long, tedious, and grueling hard work that you shouldn't expect anyone to go through without monetary reward. Most non-retards can only "enjoy" gamedev if while they're still learning, experimenting, and/or prototyping. I think a simpler version of my 256 harem girl is just better as an interactive PDF, where you can sort of see each girl, her design, her short story and more or less like the town map.

And then have a sort of CGI gallery where you can see each one naked and fucked by the MC, but the game procedurally generating each CGI pictures, from a set of like white base layers, which are colored using shaders.

2. uninteresting geometry. no key landmarks. No areas with a different feel. A good game can make and area be "claustriphobic" or "exposed" or "safe" or "full of opportunity" just with geomoetry
3. details suck. some corners are filled in, some aren't. blocks are misaligned from grid.
4. You felt the need to completely fill out the entire rectangle, where everywhere is about as easy to get from any other location. There are no secret areas. There are no tricky-to-get-to, but advantageous positions. There are no low-resistance common travel paths.
