I’ve played skyrim for 3 million hours. Fallout 3 many times as a kid (beat it 100 times over). And new vegas as well many times as a kid. Recently in 2026 i’ve just now started playing fallout 4 for the first time and while i consider myself a veteran in bethesda games and even fallout itself… this games kinda weird. You can level up special? Next rank? Perks going down? What the hell is going on with all the junk too. Apparently i “store all junk” into a workbench and then manually remove cigarettes and pre war money for some reason and just have it auto use spoons and coffee cans from there when i’m (god knows how) repairing??? Modding?? My guns and building fucking a city settlement? Can i start building in the starting area where my home was? I genuinely feel like im playing video games in general for the first time. Maybe ive been gone for a while from single player games but i feel like a retard. It is kind of refreshing being lost/unaware in a bethesda game as this beats booting up skyrim again and knowing exactly what to do and where to go. Bethesda never has fun with intellectual-oriented ideas, they're very bland and generic in that department. Fallout 2 was about the remnants of the pre-war American government, whom were evil and had a plan that made sense. Fallout 3 was just the Enclave again, which you could talk the AI into suicide with very gay and cringe dialogue. k instead of sharing my full impression of every branch i will instead try to cut it shorter in the interest of time i spoke with the facilities people first who are essentially the engineer class of the institute. they for the most part are friendly and hard-working people who with the exception of the branch head were unique in that they embrace the older model synths and express concern about existential problems like power management and the pre-war machines that make the institute possible. the branch head was aloof and struck me as disconnected from reality but she is a Shaun loyalist in that she is very much on board with the gen3 initiative the srb were next and basically the branch head and in extension the branch as a whole are disliked and feared partially due to the nature of the branch itself and the behavior of the branch head. it is implied runaway synths begin to form neural pathways independently in the same way a human being might, and the srb deals in the removal of these pathways which essentially restores a synth to 'factory new' condition, wiping the synth's memories. the srb is essentially the executive arm of the directorate which i find interesting because given the recent development of gen3 synths, that would mean the srb is the newest pillar of the institute and was possibly even added under shaun or perhaps even under his orders. it is firmly in shaun's controlbiotech strikes me as twofaced, the public facing side that produces food for the institute and gen3 positive research like the synth gorillas and then the other that deals in top secret FEV research. the current head is profusely deferential and fully on-board with not only the gen3 initiative but the controversial child synth too, and given he was appointed following virgil's abandonment of the institute it seems he is shaun's puppet

ok advanced systems is oddly the smallest branch physically and the only branch that doesn't directly concern synths or involve itself in synth research. the branch head is also the only of them that is not in full support of shaun and she seems to resent shaun's leadership in the form of his directives and is only following orders to help me but not without any small amount of resentment and personal reservations but it isn't personal she just seems to want to pursue her own research and is logically wary of the situation. overall i like her the most and i liked the biotech head the least the institute seems to be fully in shaun's control and following his gen3 initiative. before that there was the director that oversaw shaun's kidnapping, who hired kellogg, who started the FEV research, and the massacres that caused the surfacers to fear the institute but before all of that i suppose the institute was primarily about biotech and advanced systems and was much smaller and less powerful and more in need of allies and more interested in the surface. idk but it feels like the institute is basically a gen3 synth factory presently and the reason is gen3s are superior to humans in every way and i suppose the intended heirs of a brave new world. i don't get it because why not apply the improved genetic code to living and future humans instead in addition to cybernetics? what is actually the point of replacing humanity with synths their own creators don't even believe can ever be fully sentient especially when transhumanism is so obv the superior alternative?anyway the first scientist i spoke to was this guy who i think is supposed to be a mockery of a potential player type, he basically hates synths and mistrusts the others who rely on them for labor and says things like "there is too much hubris around here" but sadly i can't even ask him what he thinks of shaun
