PvP crowd was loyal but wanted esports treatment at every step of the way for something that was never going to be balanced. Lore crowd was mixed bag and tough to keep a coherent story when writers change and people want to keep dabbling into things. There’s also demographics, this game has some pretty firm cut offs who it appeals to, I think there is some validity that the idea of Destiny is a little tired. One of the biggest complaints I had as somebody who had 0 frame of reference at first with D1 and D2 was my first go was there is very little down time. There’s no real good reason to try to have a social hub in tower when there’s no reason to hang there, you just jump around things and that’s it. I’m not saying I don’t get how you mean, but I do think Destiny hitting a tangible downward trajectory didn’t exactly give it much hope to somehow fix the formula with extra sequels. I feel like things would’ve been more of the same after a certain point. Only so much to do in a hybrid game of limitations
