>What is Tabletop Sim
TTS is a physics sandbox game meant to be used to play board games online, you can find almost any board game for free in the Steam Workshop, or even create your own!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/286160/Tabletop_Simulator/

Hosting is as easy as just opening a lobby and getting the game's workshop item. Post your favorite board games, discuss and play with other anons. Find games in the Workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/workshop/) and discuss/host your favorite games!

Of course, if you prefer to play board games through other platforms, like Tabletop Playground, Board Game Arena, or game's digital editions, feel free to talk about and find other players here.

>How do I play?
Controls are mostly straightforward and intuitive, but there's always little tips and tricks to learn, more info can be found at https://kb.tabletopsimulator.com/

>How do I join?
That's easy, you click on "Join" in the main menu, search for the lobby name and password that's been posted, and done!

>How do I host?
Click on "Create", and that's basically it. You can find free games in the workshop here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/workshop/

well starter deck vs starter deck, and other precon vs precon, is still a format, even if it misses out on the fun part of making your own decks and using the cards you want instead of what WotC wants to sell to you
>>
Gonna break the ice by hosting some Jumpstart MtG. Decks will be generated, don't bother bringing your own.

While that is true, it also avoids the unfun part of getting curbstomped by some goon who invested way too much time into making an unfun infinite combo deck.
>>
>>1303061
And that's why a) formats exist, and b) you run interaction in your deck. Anything from bolts to edicts to "destroy target" to even a boardwipe, winning only happens when you stop the opponent from winning before you can, and with a properly built deck you can beat even the most oppressive combos consistently enough to win a finals at a tournament

Which version of Jumpstart was it. I remember Jumpstart 1 being pretty tame and lame, aside from chase cards (which doesn't mean much for people that actually wanna play the format)
>>
>>1303811
not that anon but the numbered jumpstart sets (2020 and 2022 or 23 i forget) are actually alright, even if they don't stand up to the likes of Sakura Arms or SmashUp in terms of making your own thing out of two halves of a thing; meanwhile the "jumpstart boosters" they had for normal sets are actually a new name for theme boosters which suck dick and should be avoided
and it all ultimately is worse than making your own deck in a casual kitchen table or a semi-competitive LGS game night setting
>>
>>1303818
I disagree, at least with the assertion that the original Jumpstart was all that good, but whatever floats your boat.
>worse than making your own deck in a casul/semi-casual setting
Yeah, but that takes too much time, and if it's Draft then that's an additional skill check there.

Really, the best format for pick-up-and-play casual MTG is actually Wizards' Tower, but I haven't been fucked to put together a list for that.
>>

I probably could, but I'm also hungry, so I wouldn't be able to give a definitive time frame.

Hosting requires a commitment of 1-3 hours, That's something that a lot of people don't wanna be held to, even if they were planning on playing for that long anyways. Applies beyond TTS as well; after a while, you start to see a few familiar places whenever something's being hosted.

Basically, hosts are gods amongst mortal men. You see some people try to come close, try to stitch hosts together or otherwise organize things, but it's only true kings above kings that actually do the deed. Peons can complain about the smugness, but then what are they gonna do about it? Continue to NOT play video games? Fufufu

To add to this discussion, in theory, there should be very little difference between player and host, but hosts do have some unwritten obligations that make hosting not just a straightforward "Make room -> Post about it" kind of effort
(look for interest, find the right time, find appropriate mod, setup, good knowledge of the game you're hosting, additional preparation, decent online connection, not be a shitbag (an impossible task for some), unexpected events during the host and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of rn)

Anyway, personally, I think, the biggest block is the insecurity in players joining/not joining the game. Like, if I knew people are gonna join up and play, I could imagine myself hosting daily.

>personally, I think, the biggest block is the insecurity in players joining/not joining the game. Like, if I knew people are gonna join up and play, I could imagine myself hosting daily
This I think as well, however from my years of hosting I've learnt not to get discouraged by people not joining, gotta have that perseverance, back when I started hosting I barely got 1 person every 3 days for a short game then never see them again, now we got a healthy amount of regulars. I wouldn't ever say this thread is dead, but maybe people got used to super huge hosts like the early pandemic days so taking things a little easier feels a bit off.

>>

It has workshop items that were never made physically, many of which are surprisingly well-made for how few there are.

In addition, automation is kind of a big one for a game like this, due to all the possible ongoings.
>>
>>1307894
That sounds pretty cool, you're more than welcome than to ask for games, it is a board game after all. I think there's a bunch of anons that enjoy cooperative games, so if timezones are agreeable, it could be done. Good luck anon.

Yellow player takes revenge and demolishes red in round 2 with all 5 modules. Excellent game, I think these modules are great personally, my favorite one was the unique hotel entrances giving you unique abilities, I loved how mine let me spent emperor points to get to use emperor bonuses during my turn. Celebrities are also very powerful and give a ton of potential big plays, but we were very poor during the game and couldn't quite make use of most of them.
Ballroom is alright, it's a good way of being able to complete guests you don't have room of at the cost of champagne (which was extremely hard to get, probably would be easier with more players as you have more dice in the action board), but we still managed to survive the shame of not having dancers and lose on points, even got some big great bonuses because of them.
Starting Player Module is a must in my opinion, making the game go clockwise and letting you have a free resource and a power-1 action really adds up, and will make the game faster in higher play counts.

All in all, excellent expansion and I'm looking forward to playing it again, only con I can think of is it adds many more elements that will force AP players to take even longer, but that's fine don't abuse takebacking ok?

Glad you enjoyed anon, well played. I'll try to scan my own copy to fix those misprints from the russian edition. Good night.

If you guys make a discord you can use their timestamp and events systems to schedule things with countdown timers and notifications. I usually dislike discord because it kills threads but it's useful for scheduling.
>>
>>1314059
Or you can just post about it in this thread and people will reply to it if interested, no need for garbage like discord.
>>
>>1314062
You're deadly afraid discord will kill the thread just because it will scare anons with voice chat.
>>
>>1314228
Nobody is joining your trooncord, newfag.
>>
>>1314059
Some people just don't understand the beauty of spontaneity. Scheduling is for suckers, real deal can game any time of the day.
>>1314228
Discord will kill the thread by splitting the already small userbase from this thread between two places.
TTS already has voice chat and it works fine.
>>
>>1314234
>Userbase is fragile that having a discord for scheduling kills it
If fucking minecraft servers can do it, why can't you?
You can disable voice rooms if you are afraid of it
>>
>>1314252
you can schedule just fine within the thread. Same functionality and all.
>but muh unix timestamp that turns into "happening in X days Y hours"
Again, you can just post the timestamp and converted time. It does not need any third party off-platform app.

And once more for the deaf, nobody is "afraid" of voice chat. TTS has it built in.
>>
>>1314256
TTS also has discord integration. You can schedule AND click to join there.
And nobody uses TTS shitty built-in voice
>>
>>1314258
If I can't trust people to do the basic task of launching the game and finding the server, how can I trust them to know and follow the rules of whatever boardgame I wanna play with them?
>>
>>1314258
Why are you so obsessed with discord anyways? Need more people to DM your weird fetishes to?
>>
>>1314260
Now you're just grasping for straws because you are afraid that having a place to actually organize the already small amount of games will somehow "split the community" which is retarded when "the community is already small"
>>1314261
Projection.
Discord bots solves 100% of your problems without having to interact with anyone, since you are so afraid of it.
How do you even join the games anyway without pissing your pants people will DM your steam account?

>>1314264
>How do you even join the games
I see the thread's post and join, ironic how you shout projection when you yourself came up with the idea that people are afraid of using voice chat. Kill yourself my guy, even if anons here used discord they wouldn't play with you.

Hosting mostly strategy games but also a few lower complexity games too. You do not need a microphone to play although I will be using one in game.
Lobby: Strategy @ 10PM UTC
Pass: No password.
Any game we play will be taught with a microphone, players do not need mics though. Our current lineup of games is
Barbarians & Empires - 4 to 10 sirs.
Fief France - for 5 to 6 players.
Fleet Command - 4 or 6 lads.
A War Machine - 3 to 6 homies.
Goblin - 2 to 5 gobloids.
COIN games - 4 chads.
Azure Sky: DOTH - 3 chongers.
Rise & Decline of The Third Reich - 2 to 4.
Senjutsu - 2 to 4 and the only non-strategy game cause I feel like it.

New to my lineup since last year are
Diplomacy 4-10 players
Republic of Rome 4-6 players (This somehow wasn't on there when I checked the archive.)
Junta! Viva El Presidente! 4-8 players
War of The Ring 3rd Ed. 2-4 players
Detective: City of Angels 2-5 players

Been gone for a long while. Only managed to play a few games last year but maybe this year will be different. Server will be up for an hour at least but most likely this post is just for scheduling something later.

Oh hey, 1000 registered plays, what an achievement! I only wish I had gotten this app when I started, all that data lost to time. Funnily enough 49% of all these plays are on TTS with you anons, that's almost a perfect 50/50.

Anyways closing lobby for tonight, ggs and thanks to the 2 new blood that joined, until next game!
>>
Okay, anons. I have a bit of a weird project I want to attempt.

I want to make a legacy-style board game that also functions as an alternate career mode for the 2010 rhythm game Rock Band 3.

The game should be playable without actually playing Rock Band 3, of course. But there needs to be some form of alternate show resolution that is achieved by actually playing a few songs in Rock Band, Clone Hero, or some comparable guitar-centric rhythm game.

The way I'm thinking this is achieved is having your performance rated on a scale of 1 to 6 per song. That way if you're playing the rhythm game you can outright transfer over your star-rating straight to the board game, and if it's board game only you can just roll 6d6 and count results of 4+ as a star.
>>
What are some good games with absolute minimal hidden components/randomization. Ones like Puerto Rico, where the only face-down element is the plantation tiles, but even further than that. Games where the variation in play instead depends on their choices--or if there is randomization, it's from public information like dice rolls, and the players don't gain anything face-down from it.
>>
>>1321361
From the ones I played here:

The Red Cathedral
Onitama
Homeworlds
Ora et Labora
Chess
Barrage - (I think it fits, can't quite recall)
Puerto Rico - as you mentioned
Akropolis - admittedly, even though the cities are public info, the score is practically un-trackable until the end. Main tile stack is shuffled.
Roll Player - has a public dice roll phase and shuffled main deck; if you choose to do its expansion it does also have hidden traits for the bbeg, but generally players will reveal them eventually.
Pax Ren - main decks are shuffled; funnily enough, technically, if you can bother to remember what cards people buy, it's all public info.
Bullet, Cartographers, Azul, Orleans - to a fair extent; you're probably not gonna bother or have time to check out what your opponents are doing, so even though information is public, it matters less in these.
>>
>>1321205
>roll 6d6 and count results of 4+ as a star.
That sounds like a horribly random way to do it, and doesn't fit the theme of "you make a rock band and get better at song playing as you go". I mean, I don't flip six coins when I go play the guitar to see how good I play.
Also, what are the legacy elements going to be? What are the goals short term and long term for the players to be considered as "winning"?
>>
>>1321361
The Great Zimbabwe has only randomization for the starting map
Bus is completely perfect information
Hansa Teutonica only has random tokens but you choose where to place them
Patchwork also has randomized setup but everything after is completely open
Food Chain Magnate is also very open, with only the starting map being random

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
>>
>>1321361
>Fillers
Santorini: only a couple characters have hidden or random elements
>Bigger games
A Feast for Odin: occupations are the only random thing and they don't have a big impact, plus you can discard them to instead get vp tokens
Yokohama: orders are hidden information, but you get them from a display that doesn't get refreshed that fast since it gets more stuff only at the end of the turn and you have to go out of your way to actually get them. Techs are public information and taken from a display too
Carnegie: Only played one game (and won by a landslide) last month so I might be misremembering something but I recall there being literally no hidden information or randomization (aside from initial game setup)
The Gallerist: Only hidden information is 2 personal goals you get at the start of the game but you can more or less guess which works of art others are aiming for

you literally throw dice, and it's arguably a big part of the game

>The way I'm thinking this is achieved is having your performance rated on a scale of 1 to 6 per song. That way if you're playing the rhythm game you can outright transfer over your star-rating straight to the board game, and if it's board game only you can just roll 6d6 and count results of 4+ as a star
What would the "board" part of the game be though? There's not many rhythm board games out there and for good reason, it doesn't mix well in a tabletop setting; best I could imagine for a game where you wouldn't need a player to be a Metronome like that one clapping/singing game could be through cards that have fret positions and you're managing your hand by playing them in the sequence of a particular song like in the video game. Doesn't sound too fun however. haha get it? sound.

It's kind of hard for me to describe without context... Ever heard of the old-ass warhammer fantasy supplement Mighty Empires? The old first version of it, that could be played as a standalone empire builder, or you can resolve conflicts by playing Warhammer battles instead.

I'm thinking something like that. You could play it as a standalone band management sim, or you could combine it with one of the rhythm video games to make the board game portion into a campaign system for it.

All hosts will be glad to teach any game anons join if they don't know it, it may get a little complicated since we use text and you have to keep track of what people are saying but it's a proven working method and many anons have learned this way. Of course it's better if you come prepared but as the other anon said, people prefer to be taught. I think the biggest disappointment of today's tragic Mysterium games was the fact that it's as if ghosts were refusing to send more than 1 clue at a time.
With multiple clues, you can control bad cards by doing things like creating narratives, reinforcing only pieces of clues in images, creating negatives or opposites etc. and unfortunately we didn't get to see ourselves pierce that layer of strategy today.
With one card, you're praying you get the perfect card.
>>
>>1327979
It depends. Dealing multiple cards also isn't always the way to go, if you're doing it to a medium that tends to overthink
In these case it only confuses them more because they think every clue you give them actually holds significance even when they dont and will constantly second-guess themselves

Themes can make or break a game, especially with people who are goes by first impression instead of long, multiple gameplay. They won't give it a second chance.

If gameplay and theme arent in sync, people will simply not play it.

ask the trannies that got a temp ban for offtopic (they didn't talk about board games or LFG) and lead to the whole global chat shutdown
>>
>>1329289
They say nigger every 2 sentences
>>
>>1329310
I remember my friends deliberately fucking with people on global talking about niggers, etc. The moment a mod bans a tranny though then suddenly there is a huge problem.
I can't believe I actually bothered to follow the global chat rules, turns out there was no point.

Also forgot somebody asked for the Merchants & Marauders mod I pimped up, here it is
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3253142371

I read some forums about house rules but being perfectly honest I don't think they are very good. Only thing I like is this checklist variant that blocks you from getting Glory from just 1 source of main income (stashing and raiding/trading); also forgot I had this fucking Stats pad for the game, it's not scripted at all, just a frankenstein of tokens merged together, it lags the game a lot when yo move them lol, maybe somebody can help me out on making it a real working thing.
