Something I've noticed in my efforts to save fuel is that with small amounts of stuff, ie 1 block worth of shingles/bricks, as soon as all 9 piles of wood ignite it's instantly fired and I can just pick all the wood up before any of it is actually consumed. Just have to wait for the stuff to cool down. Though there needs to be enough wood in each pile, 8 pieces of firewood seems to be the magic number. I tried 1, 2, and 4 and they would all burn out before firing the same amount of stuff.

Also, it seems like the beehive kiln works off in-game time like bloomeries and cementation furnaces instead of real time like pit kilns and firepits. Just start the fires, go to sleep, and everything's done and ready when you wake up. Nice and easy.

Why are the jsons for chests so retarded? The attributes key fucks with a lot of functionality. And it's full of redundant lines. The chests being rotatable are defined in three different places for example. Two of those don't actually work.

Anyway, anybody interested in some functional drawers? They come in all wood types and with both wood and marble tops. You can also make pies on them.
The textures on the front kind of blend in, so I'll need to rework them. I'm also planning on making a wide versions like the trunks.

Collision doesn't really want to work with the wide ones. I was hoping to copy paste the single block one's json and just change some values, but the way I set it up doesn't seem to lend itself for multiblocks. I'm going to leave it for tomorrow.

No, not yet. They make no attempt to be in a clear line of sight from you, stand behind a tree and they'll just keep shooting the tree. Only thing that changes that is if you're inside a fully enclosed space.

Not a lot of catch apart from slow dev time, though there are classes both in MP and SP to incentivize playing in MP; think of them as challenge modes.


Game's made in C#, the Discord is frequented by olds who know what they're doing (and the usual shitters but hey it's the internet), and all the vanilla mechanics feed into each other with basically none that exist "for future expansion."

By default you have:
Voxel-based smithing and clayforming
A nutrition system that determines your maximum health
-a dozen vegetable and grain types each
-cooking including scrambled eggs, soups, stews, porridges, pies, bread and cheesemaking
-fruit bushes & trees
-brewing and distilling
Animal breeding with tameness if little other depth
An actual story with a goal to achieve; ruins above and belowground to incentivize exploration
Relatively realistic metallurgy & geology

The nutrition system has Protein, Vegetable, Grain, Fruit & Dairy meters.

You want to balance these in your meals, the most nutrients a meal can have is three, and doing THAT takes some experimenting.

My go-to now that my character is established is to eat either scrambled eggs with vegetables or meat stew, depending on what I have available; and then a fruit pie for the other two bars.
I've made it to dairy ONCE, and then a fucking bear got my sheep.

Bread takes a long time to go bad, but less than raw grain or flour.

Different crops take different nutrients and grow over different periods of time, so you have to cycle crops. You can craft rich soil, but that's going to take you bare minimum an in-game year.

Mechanically, the two best crops are Turnips (short grow time) and Flax (gives you linen fiber) but Flax fills less Grain saturation than other grain so I usually grow either Rice or Rye depending on my biome, because those give better nutrition for making pie crusts.
Different crops prefer different biomes, too; if crops get too hot or too cold, they give decreased drops when harvested.
Pumpkins and Cabbages give a LOT of Vegetable saturation but their seeds can only be found by trading or exploration
I also grow Onions for RP purposes, but that's not a priority for you.


You'll figure out what foods you want to cook with, but the best ones require a lot of in-game work to find-for example, you can grind grain manually but it's tedious enough that the time and materiel investment for wind power is worth it.

Oh, and there's beekeeping. It's kind of basic, but honey is a potent healing item and the wax is used to make Candles that last longer than Torches and can be used to craft Lanterns that don't go out.

Yeah, Torches burn out in about two days. I think Notch said he was going to do that once?

It Dependsâ„¢ is the real answer. Meals have an extra benefit where they pause your hunger for 30 seconds per 100 hunger it restores. So if you're just doing homemaking tasks it's in your best interest to eat a meal that's as close to max (1500) hunger as possible without going over. And that only leaves a couple of ingredients capable of doing that. Though if you want to go caving and get into a fight it behooves you to max out as many of your food types as possible to get your max health up.

Weapons have no niche, there's no reason to try and use slow ass melee attacks when I can just chuck bronze spears like I've got a ballista attached to my arm. If spears had maybe another 1-1.5m of melee distance then I would consider using them as melee weapon. Alternatively make a javelin weapon type for throwing and spear specifically for thrusting, maybe the benefit being you can thrust with your shield up roman style. There's no benefit to different types of armor, you're always incentivized to look like a walking tin can because otherwise you'll get absolutely shredded, some way of differentiating the usefulness of armor types would be nice. You can see this already in the combat overhaul mod that delineated the type of damage things do and what a particular piece of armor is effective at stopping. It also has a system that you can use to layer armor, ex- gambeson underneath, then chain, then plate. Though I can easily understand that specifically being too in depth for vanilla.

1. melee is ALWAYS the objectively wrong choice because:
a) you can never fucking hit anything. you are just as likely to hit the block overlayed over an enemy, whatever is behind the enemy, or anything else but the enemy, despite the hitboxes not being too terrible (most of the time)
b) you have a fucking delay on every single hit. you click, you wait .5 of a second, then you hit something. and you have to keep aiming the entire time.
c) being in melee means you're getting hit, yet melee doesn't give you any real advantage when you could hit from afar
d) shields are shit.
2. the enemies are shit. there's almost no reason to ever fight them instead of running around them because they have such shit drops and because they're an infinitely replenishing annoyance. it's always better to avoid combat entirely, either by not being around enemies or by trapping enemies
3. EXCEPT you have combat constantly forced on you with mandatory temporal storm bullshit and rifts and driggers dropping from every spot unlit by God's light, so you either run somewhere else or have to deal with a dogshit system

The only one that has any real effect is the slower walking speed, the rest are effectively non-existent, because by the time you can make full plate you should have enough food and healing items it's irrelevant. First and foremost it lacks "gamefeel" (like >>1500902 and >>1501294 said). They really need to nail down the animations, sound, responsiveness and such to make it *fun*, as it is meant to be in a game. Just because Minecraft did it that way in 2011 and has hardly changed it since, doesn't mean we need to keep the formula without trying to improve on it, there are many games with fun combat out there and we can take lessons from those.

Second is lack of variety (as >>1501336 said). Why have a sword and what are basically "sword reskins"? Give them meaningfully different stats and characteristics, animations, attack patters, reach, modifiers, mechanics, etc.

Third, last, and the most subjective of my takes is depth. Like I posted about before, I'd appreciate anything like combos, contextual attacks, synergies (with anything else in the game, armor types? heat/fire? enemy types (assuming we get more enemies)?)

Two domesticated Yellows will occasionally produce one of the basic colored chicks in case you can't find one.

Personally I like SP better. MP you have issues with crops and timing stuff, and growing it together doesn't happen as you'd like since one NEET will just no life everything in one day while you're at work, so the growth doesn't feel at all organic but rather like it just appears all at once in massive spurts.
I think if you were playing MP with your wife or maybe a small group of friends it could work.

I came across this neat tower I wanted to live in, but it was full to the brim with locusts. Lucky for me I was being stalked by like three fucking polar bears who got in the way, kicking off a massive gang war. I was able to creep through the tower and smash all the locust nests while the bugs were preoccupied with the bears.

So now I'm rebuilding all the collapsed walls and shit. Wish I had better looking stone than andesite to work with, but whatever. Blue tower surrounded by polar bears, I guess.

My plan right now is to just have rideable yellows in an initial release, then add breeding and colors later, and then add some decorations.
Colors I have planned so far:
Blue, Green, Red, Brown, Purple, White, Pink, Silver, Black, Gold
First 4 will spawn as aggressive males in different environments and can be bred with your yellows to get tameable versions or a new color, the rest of the colors will need to be bred.
I plan to give colors abilities like 9 eventually.

it shouldn't be super difficult based on what I remember from the bear json, you can change step height based on sub species for climbing and I think run and swim speed were in there too.
alternatively, I'm unable to look through game files right now but you might be able to tie them to generation to allow cosmetic freedom and more effort than luck to get a mount that's running up cliffs and out swimming boats.
