MMOs are b-ACK!
it hurts so much, new world bros...
>>2034449Imagine wasting over 6,000 hours of your life in fucking New World.
>>2034446are there any mmos worth playinghell are there at least any mmos with any real multiplayer aspect, i'd play em even if everyone was autistic asocial fucks as long as i get to actually raid and do team shit rather than spending a gorillion hours playing a shitty singleplayer RPG and occasionally seeing someone else bumbling around bumbling around before moving on.
>>2034545By the quality of social aspects:EVE Online if you are highly autistic and love spreadsheets.Albion Online if you want EVE but with dev vision and updates, but with a mobile taste.FF14 if you want weeb clanmates and raiding with them and UwU. Must endure ~60 hours of dogshit gameplay and story before it suddenly becomes very good. All other MMOs I played are pretty dead in the social aspect.
>>2034568>FF14 if you want weeb clanmates and raiding with them and UwU. Must endure ~60 hours of dogshit gameplay and story before it suddenly becomes very good.does that mean i gotta wait 60 hours to raid or can i find dungeons and parties from the get gosame for the other 2 i guessall i care about is teaming up with a bunch of other retards to beat the shit outta something, hell i'd be playing monhun wilds if that game's story didnt interrupt me every 5 seconds
>>2034571>if that game's story didnt interrupt me every 5 secondsYou're going to hate XIV
>release new huge update with big trailer in hopes of bringing people back>immediately pull the plug a week later Can someone explain this to me?
>>2034571For EVE/Albion, you can find an active newbie guild and jump right into coop play. People will gladly teach you the ropes just because of the chance you will become valuable +1. Be warned tho, both games do not give clear goals, so if it's fun is up for you. For FF14 can't comment higher than the first DLC, because I rushed there through the before-mentioned 72 hours of shit and was too burned out to enjoy the good part that started, even though my guild was very supportive, active and was constantly going on raids.>>2034723This
>>2034449how do you even play 1,000h, let alone 6k???
>>2034571FFXIV is NOT like WoW, where you reach a certain milestone level and you can do dungeons or raids. In FFXIV your progression isnt tied to a certain level, but to which part of the Main Story Quest you're in. Raids don't automatically unlock at max level of each expansion, but instead after you complete the MSQ of that installment. Levels don't mean anything in the game, since you can play all classes (called jobs) on a single character and you just switch main weapon to change classes. Everything in the game is unlockable after completing questchains, and only AFTER you reach a certain point in the main story quest. Every dungeon for example, has to be unlocked through a questchain, same for raids. This, coupled with the fact that the RDF and LFR tools use the entire pool of instances from the game (not just the specific expansion you're doing, like in WoW), means you'll always find groups for instances and are able to progress through the MSQ, since some parts of it require you to do dungeons, trial (mini raids of only 8 people) and some raids, which, again, you also have to unlock through questchains. It's a really good game that respects your time and doesnt rushes you to max level. In fact, it will take you probably a full year of casually playing the game, to go from the start of it all the way to raidining in the current expansion. If you just want to jump to the end game like in WOW, you either buy a story skip boost from the store (which only skips MSQ, but you still need to do the questchains to unlock each and every dungeons and raids) or just DONT play this game
>>2034446>Make cool open world game>only invite WOWfags to beta test it>WOWfags hate it because its not WOW>remake the game 9 months before release>kill the open world>add in WOW style hallway dungeons and trinity based weapon classes>add in Mutations to cater to the M+ WOWfag>WOWfags still hate it because its not WOW>No one plays it>Game diesI wish for fucking once MMO developers would focus on what makes MMOs good, persistant shared worlds, and stop trying to copy WOW nearly 2 decades past its prime
>>2034446MONSTERS AND MEMORIES OPEN BETA NOV. 1THE GENRE IS SAVED
>>2034842Won't last. Too niche. I say this as an EQ enjoyer.
>>2034446EoS soon...
>>2034842>>2034869won't last? with what a massive population? so it won't be an mmo but an mofine enough as in its current crap state it's already better than most mmos
Bummer that there won't be more content but as long as there's enough people playing I will still log in every once in a while. Maybe they can keep the game alive indefinitely like red dead 2 online
>>2034757Do normies even want open, persistent worlds when social media is a thing? WoW used to be an open world where you had to physically travel to the dungeo n.
>>2034959>fine enough as in its current crap state it's already better than most mmosI played the last two tests and this is the craziest part
>>2034545Everquest still runs with live server, emulators, and timelocked servers that launch fresh yearly. 72man raids, six man groups with people who actually talk to each other
>>2034984Social media was never the problem, the problem was rushing players to an arbitrary 'end game' where the 'real game' starts, but that real game is running the same fucking hallway on a daily cycle
>>2034545just OSRS, if you dont like OSRS dont even bother with MMOs at this point unless you are korean
i personally love new world despite all the overall roughness and unpolished gameplay. hope it stays up for a few years, it's probably the only mmo i'd play for fun and not just progression and fomo
>>2034446It had the same peak all its major updates had. It wasn't a particularly different standout patch that was actually going to save the game. If they have any grace, they would update it one final time to make it suitable as a single player and then drop it for good.
>>2035269Time gates are a response to protect stupid players from themselves, who would either immediately start botting and ruin the game, or play a thousand hours in 2 months and then whine about there being nothing to do, or how the game is "already boring".
>>2034726the update was likely 90% ready when the decision to put the game into maintenance mode was made upstairs
How long until they make this turd f2p?
>>2034842finally... Runescape 4
>>2034545Mortal Online 2I've always loved it because the entire game is designed around needing others. You can't do everything yourself but of course there are still autists out there who will have multiple characters to do everything on their own. As for like dungeons and other content like that there are certain creative methods you use to farm things with less players but most of the big stuff requires a group. However after playing it for 10+ years and seeing the problems they just never bothered fixing yet even with making the game over again I personally can't go back to it. That and you have to treat it like a 2nd job if you want to experience ALL of the content.
>>2036276THE MCRIB IS BACK
=>>2034545Not really, actually. MMO market is in the most fucked state its ever been, basically. You either hop on a pserver for EQ or some shit, play osrs, or continue getting raped by blizzard. Everything else is dead/dying or overly polarizing, or worse....filled with esl third worlders.
>>2036387>or worse....filled with esl third worlders. The secret blessing of the $15 subscription
>>2035285that's exactly what he didn't want. I play osrs but the vast majority of it is solo content
>>2035269Thank you, I'm so tired of MMOs and MMO players only seeing the endgame as the "true" game and not the hundreds of hours of leveling, questing, exploring and doing dungeons. That is just as important as any kind of endgame raid. If the devs treat that stuff as unimportant then why should I care?
>>2036713i might be weird but i basically want an MMO thats basically just thatlike, i came here to get STRONG and KILL SHIT with a guild. all those cutscenes and quests and shit just complicates things. not like i dont like any story but i never stick with MMOs because im basically spending all my time popping MSQs for free EXP instead of grinding equips or whatever because whatever i can make now will be useless laterthe MMO im playing rn is Toram Online and I have spent over 22 hours fucking speedrunning the main quests using a ridiculously high lv guild merc just to pop all the free EXP because it's way faster than grinding, and I have spend at least 16 hours of it with literally starter equipment and just siccing the guildie on everything because I dealt no damage and could take no damage but didnt have any reason to grind equips when i could use the guildie to kill everything. hell, that's actually still true, but i can at least survive the undodgeable attacks now. but the problem is that I wanna grind equips and EXP and raid and shit but there is no point so long as I can keep doing MSQ and becoming way stronger way quicker.
>>2034757>>2035269The problem with MMOs is that you're rewarded for doing boring grinds to level up or farm gear, but that detracts you from doing random fun shitAnd if you refuse to the the boring gear farming, you'll lose in PvP to people who do itThis is basically impossible to solve unless the progression is very small, and say a character with the best gear is only twice as a strong as someone with average gearBut that turns into another problem cus MMO players love getting stronger over time until they're godsI guess that's why survival games are so popular nowadays, I honestly believe it's what MMOs evolved intoIt even has more roleplay than the average MMO, with people using worse gear or going naked just because it looks cooler for example, despite being at a disadvantageGear doesn't matter that much in these games cus even a low level player can score a lucky headshot on a top player
>>2037130i feel like this wasn't a problem pre-TBCi know that's long as fuck ago but everything has sucked since then.at level 60 you could get gear through pvp modes or through pve modes and they would have similar stats compared to investment and would overlap is usefulness.resilence was fucking stupid.also i could regularly school people in much higher gear by out playing them because they had <5k hp. making HP pools multiple times that without equally increasing damage output completely fucks ttk and skillvskill mechanics.wow literally felt perfect pre tbc but also they released tbc talents
>>2037493>but also they released tbc talentsi'm saying that was the peak time. tbc gear scaling and stats and all those mechanics were horrible. but the talent changes were great
>>2037130Yeah people like getting more powerful over time, but the current state of MMOs is speedrunning to an arbitrary end game where you grind gear so that you go from doing 10k damage to 10m damage, but you're fighting the same mobs that are being scaled to your gearscore which results in there actually being zero power progression. For example in Vanilla WOW every time I got an upgrade from a raid, farming blue dragonkin solo for sinew became easier and easier, especially when I got my tier 2 five piece
