They want a cool show to watch after school that's funny, shows off different Pokemon, and relates to the experience you get in the games. I think they'd rather start fresh again than look outwardly foolish by bringing Ash back after only a year and some change. They already kind of did a soft relaunch of Horizons with the increased focus on Paldea gym leaders and the school setting, but we'll see if it pans out successfully for ratings or not.

Rather than pure ratings or demo share though, relative rankings compared to other shows should give a better idea about relative popularity, but even that's misleading. I remember it was during JN that the talking point about Pokemon regularly not being in the top ten animated shows on TVTokyo came about, and it's worth mentioning that this thread used to be pretty decent about tracking things like that. There's some stuff in the archives about it if you search, but you are gonna run into people spinning narratives. XY/SM were fairly stable in the rankings, but JN saw Pokemon drop out of the top ten more frequently. Bear in mind the time change and the move to streaming can explain part of this. Horizons hasn't really reversed the trend overall. That being said, because JN aired regularly during COVID, even with production shit-ups, it being out of the top ten doesn't mean anipoke was or is on death's door. They proved its value to TVTokyo as regular content. Moreover, ShoPro owns the time slot and anipoke is ShoPro's largest stake in the Pokemon brand. None of the parties responsible for funding anipoke are going to pull out of it, and they don't need to chase ratings to make money off of being part of the Pokemon enterprise. I'm sure they could've done another 50 million Ash seasons and still made bank, regardless of slippage. They decided not to because they wanted to do something else. They're not going to completely step back because HZ isn't a ratings juggernaut that saved the series from obscurity, but they're also not going to do Liko/Roy forever if it did just because of ratings. It's a non-issue, and only worth comparing for the sake of curiosity and pissing off the flamebaiter.

I have this memory that these stickers were a fad in Japan in the 80s but I have no recollection of where I learned it, though I later found a Japanese Wikipedia article confirming it. I can only assume it was an episode of some anime in the 90s like Pokémon or Sailor Moon.
