In last weekend's session, we completed all of the remaining gym leader rematches, defeated Professor Oak, and conquered the Pokémon League's ultimate gauntlet. One task remains before gaining access to Mt. Silver, we must complete the Pokédex. Currently we're at 177 species caught and 250 seen, and we're about to head out for a lap around the nation to catch more Pokémon. Before that though, it's very important to set the date and time!
>>56444245I usually start these threads off by asking for the date and time, but I just realized this time I didn't actually ask. So I'll just set it to 10AM on a Saturday and resume from there. Before we head out to catch Pokémon, we have two Eevee we should probably evolve first. This is Peepee, the second Eevee we obtained from Bill in Goldenrod City. We evolved our first Eevee into Umbreon, and caught a Vaporeon in the wild, so that leaves three evolutions left. What should we evolve Peepee into?>Jolteon>Flareon>Espeon
>>56444380And while we're at it, here is Cunt, the Eevee we caught in the secret garden behind Bill's sea cottage on Route 25. What should we evolve Cunt into?
Our first catch of the day is a Caterpie on Route 30.178/251
>>56444721creampie
>>56444380flareon (because fire peepee)>>56444565jolteon (for obvious reasons)

>>56445182jew
In Ilex Forest, we catch a Farfetch'd.184/251
>>56445205fastfood
On Route 34, we catch a Drowzee.185/251
>>56445210sleepy
Passing through Goldenrod, how about a style swap? If we have to go fight some guy on a mountain later (purely hypothetical), the last thing I wanna do is show up wearing the piss palette.
>>56445221piss yellow
Inside Mt. Mortar, we catch a Pupitar.186/251>>56445228God dammit.
>>56445237metapod
Surfing on Route 40, we catch a Horsea.187/251
>>56445256seawhore
On Route 44, we catch a Lickitung.188/251
>>56445267ligma
We return to Kanto and catch a Ponyta on Route 6.189/251
>>56445285nococklike

>>56445299maxchode
On Route 14, we catch an Exeggcute.191/251
>>56445321sixtysix
On Route 11, we catch a Tangela.

In Viridian Forest, we catch a Butterfree.194/251
>>56445379buttercup
At the south end of Route 2, we catch a Vulpix.195/251
>>56445394moppet
Along the coast of Cinnabar Island, we catch a Corsola.
>>56445420reefer
To pass the time while we wait for nightfall, we do some more training to get some more evolutions. First up, Creampie evolves into Metapod.196/251
Shagger evolves into Flaaffy.197/251
McGregor evolves into Hitmonchan.198/251
Seawhore evolves into Seadra.199/251
>>56445468...and then again into Kingdra.200/251
Moppet evolves into Ninetales.201/251
Sleepy evolves into Hypno.202/251
Shagger evolves further into Ampharos.203/251
Maxchode evolves into Machamp.204/251
And finally, Metapod evolves into Tyranitar, giving us a grand total of (since I forgot to count Reefer up above) 206 Pokémon caught and 250 Pokémon seen. Since Pupitar takes so long to level up, we ended up finding a new training spot, a cave near Cerulean City.
>>56445554And in the depths of that cave, we find a familiar-looking Pokémon. It's the one that teleported away from us in the remains of Pokémon Mansion.
>>56445564And as it turns out, it's the 251st and final species our Pokédex hasn't registered as seen yet.
And with only eight Ultra Balls left, we manage to catch Mewtwo.207/251
>>56445594bigdaddy
Catching Mewtwo reminds us of the Old Sea Map we found in Pokémon Mansion. There are only so many places to find a boat around here, so we return to Vermilion Harbor. This sailor says he can take us to a Faraway Island, but only if we're strong enough to handle the trip. We've already beaten his direct superior, Lt. Surge, so he's willing to take us. We stock up on more Ultra Balls, and head off to Guyana.
>>56445637"If any human sets foot here again... My only wish is that those people are kindhearted. With that hope, I shall depart."Dr. FujiSept 6, 1991
We traverse through a series of caves and eventually find the Pokémon we originally spotted in Bill's secret garden.
And this time, it's not going to escape.
208/251
>>56445721Lolita
Doing another lap around the nation, we catch a Houndour in Sprout Tower.209/251
>>56445749BtchInHeat
While we're near the Ruins of Alph, we might as well catch another Unown. This one's a C.
>>56445782crunown

>>56445982six
On Route 8, we catch a Tauros.
>>56445995seven
On Route 3, we catch our fifth and final Eevee, which we'll eventually evolve into Espeon.
>>56446033eight
We return to Cerulean Cave for grinding, and Three evolves into Xatu.
One evolves into Skiploom.
Six evolves into Rhydon.
So you're going to post everything you catch/evolve. How interesting. I'm really amused, honestly.
And finally, FINALLY, Eight (who we caught at level 34, mind you), evolves into Espeon at level 79. This puts us at 219/251. I'm going to take a half-hour break, and then when the game turns to nighttime we'll get back to catching.
Now that the sun is down, we start another lap around Johto to find some nocturnal Pokémon. Our first catch is a Sneasel on Route 36.
>>56446310nine
In Union Cave, we catch a Sandshrew.
>>56446337dennis

On Route 9, we catch a Marowak.
>>56446836pillow
And the only Pokémon we caught that can evolve is Bed, who we evolve into Cloyster to put us at 235/251. Only 16 remain. Time for another lap.
Starting off strong, we catch a Spinarak on Route 30.
>>56446894sheets
In Dark Cave, we catch a Larvitar.

Cringe playthrough
We have now reached the point where a casual lap around both Kanto and Johto has spawned no new Pokémon, so let's see what we're missing:1. Machop2. Cubone3. Hitmonlee4. Kangaskhan5. Staryu6. Mr. Mime7. Igglybuff8. Aipom9. Heracross10. Skarmory11. LugiaI think it's time we head off to the Whirl Islands. Since I'm pretty sure we don't need Waterfall for anything anymore, we go to the Move Deleter to get rid of it on Ballsack's moveset, then teach it Whirlpool as a replacement.
Oh this fucking sucks. Guess we'll have to get rid of Charmeleon's Focus Blast for a bit so it can use Flash.
I don't like the looks of that.
Turns out Waterfall wasn't necessary to ride down one. Anyway, we find the deep-sea guardian Lugia in the depths of the Whirl Islands.
And ultimately, we catch the final remaining legendary Pokémon. Only ten regular ones left to go before the Pokédex is complete.
>>56447343oi
>Machop>Cubone>Hitmonlee>Kangaskhan>Staryu>Mr. Mime>Igglybuff>Aipom>Heracross>SkarmoryTen remain. What are we going for first?
>>56448966checkem
>>56447343>Lugia get's her own spriteDoes Ho-oh get a unique sprite too?
>>56449047We head to Route 22 to catch Igglybuff (242/251).>>56449075All legendaries have unique menu sprites (although Mewtwo and Mew still have generic monster sprites on the overworld). Various other Pokémon have unique sprites, notably every starter and their evolutions. I'm hoping to have unique sprites implemented for every mon in time for release.
>>56449092gaysperm
>>56449092Since this post rolled a 2, we catch Cubone next in Mt. Moon (243/251).
>>56449126boner
>>56449126Our next target is Mr. Mime, who we catch on Route 7 (244/251).

>>56449171We go into Mt. Mortar and catch a Machop (246/251).

>>56449195Surfing inside Union Cave, we catch Staryu (247/251).
>>56449227shuriken
>>56449227A little to the west, we catch Aipom in Ilex Forest (248/251).
>>56449253coolest
>>56449253In the patch of grass outside the Ruins of Alph, we catch a Tyrogue that we'll hopefully be able to evolve into Hitmonlee.
>>56449297fiftyfifty
Fiftyfifty evolved into Hitmonchan, so we have to catch another Tyrogue. I can't attach an image of either of these events because we already caught a Tyrogue (>>56449297) and evolved a Hitmonchan (>>56445463) in this thread. What's Tyrogue #2's nickname?
>>56449355retry
Well, there's no way this one is gonna evolve into Hitmonlee. Gotta catch a third one, what'll we call him?
>>56449380charm
>>56449380As we're searching for Tyrogue #3, we actually stumble across a Skarmory (249/251).
>>56449406Fsixteen
With only a 1-point gap between its Attack and Defense, Charm evolves into Hitmonlee (250/251).
And on Route 18, we catch Kangaskhan and complete our Pokédex (251/251).
>>56449511wemadeit
We pedal uphill on Cycling Road to get to Celadon, and visit the Game Designer at Celadon Mansion to obtain our Diploma.I wanted to change the "Player" text to "PkMn Master", but I guess that causes some kind of spacing issue? Need to fix that before release...
We fly to Pallet Town to visit Oak at his lab and show him our completed Pokédex. He congratulates us and tells us he'll make arrangements so that we can go to Mt. Silver. Surely there must be something worth checking out there...CHAPTER SEVEN: ...AND BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE!
We make a quick trip to Blackthorn to fix up Charmeleon's moveset, re-teaching it Focus Blast after getting rid of Flash, then we head west from Viridian to arrive at Route 28. The wild Pokémon here are stronger than any we've ever seen, but apparently this area isn't completely dangerous. We pick up a Sacred Ash from this supposed celebrity, and even find a Pokémon Center.
We reach the entrance to Mt. Silver, but before we can enter, another trainer suddenly bumps into us. No words are exchanged between us, but...
>>56449597...There's a mutual understanding of what we must do.
>>56449607Red's team:Pikachu (Light Ball): Thunderbolt, Iron Tail, Surf, FlyEspeon (MiracleBerry): Psychic, Surf, Thunderbolt, FlamethrowerSnorlax (Leftovers): Body Slam, Earthquake, Curse, RestVenusaur (Power Herb): Solarbeam, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, Giga DrainCharizard (ConfuseGuard): Fire Blast, Outrage, Seismic Toss, FlamethrowerBlastoise (BlackGlasses): Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Dark Pulse, Flash CannonAnd since I haven't posted it yet in this thread, here's our team:Lettuce (Meganium): Giga Drain, AncientPower, Cut, Leech SeedBrunown (Unown B): Hidden Power Flying, AncientPower, Double Team, SubstituteCharmeleon (Magmar): Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Fire BlastBad Dragon (Aerodactyl): Rock Slide, Fly, Earthquake, CrunchBallsack (Azumarill): Surf, Dazzling Gleam, Ice Beam, WhirlpoolKlaus (Kingler): Crabhammer, X-Scissor, Dig, StrengthThe battle begins, and Red's Pikachu starts things off by suddenly leaping high into the sky. Is it using balloons? It's hard to tell, but we quickly swap to Bad Dragon to resist some of the damage from Fly. Pikachu then goes down from a super-effective Earthquake, and Red sends out Espeon, who loses about 50% of its HP from Crunch. Shocking us, however, is the fact that this Espeon's mutated DNA lets it use Thunderbolt, nailing Bad Dragon's weakness before fainting to a second Crunch.Red sends out Blastoise, who suffers from bad luck and flinches twice in a row from Bad Dragon's Rock Slide. Red uses a Full Restore to bring its HP back to full, but then Blastoise misses a Hydro Pump and Bad Dragon's superior speed lets it seize victory without taking any additional damage. Red sends out Snorlax, who take a bit of damage from Rock Slide but KO's our weakened Bad Dragon with Body Slam. We send in Lettuce to sap Snorlax with Leech Seed while it uses Curse to boost its stats. We chip away at Snorlax, and Lettuce get paralyzed, but also boosts twice from AncientPower in the process.
>>56449658Red's Venusaur immediately pierces through Lettuce's Sp. Def boosts with a critical hit Sludge Bomb. We send in Brunown and set up Double Team, but Venusaur launches an instantly charged Solarbeam thanks to its Power Herb. With Venusaur intent on using Solarbeam, the charge turns give Brunown time to put up Substitute and try to boost its evasion further. We manage to stack up four boosts, whittling away at Venusaur's HP with Hidden Power until it faints.Red sends out his final Pokémon Charizard, who takes colossal damage from AncientPower but manages to KO Brunown with Fire Blast. Charizard deals some more damage with Outrage, but we send out Charmeleon who takes it down with Thunderbolt, giving us the victory.Red doesn't have much to say after the battle, but there's a looming anxiety in the air after he leaves. If Red's down here, what's waiting for us at Mt. Silver's peak?
Aw shit, this place needs Flash too? Sorry Charmeleon, you're losing Focus Blast again.>Captcha: 0AGGHThe sound I made when this happened.
>>56449704Silver Cave turns out to be a much shorter dungeon than I remembered, and we make it to Mt. Silver's peak. We encounter another trainer here, but first we take notice of the art on the wall and read the engraved message."A piece of the world is missing, erased by the Original One. But, how can one truly erase that which was never meant to exist? When no challenge remains, the path ahead will open. The Missing One will only reveal itself to a true Pokémon Master. It's name is..."The symbols are illegible.
"...Did you expect someone else?"
>>56449744Kris's team:Articuno (Leftovers): Ice Beam, Bubblebeam, Hidden Power Grass, ReflectZapdos (Leftovers): Thunderbolt, Drill Peck, Hidden Power Grass, Thunder WaveMoltres (Leftovers): Flamethrower, Double-Edge, Hidden Power Grass, Fire BlastSnorlax (Leftovers): Body Slam, Earthquake, Curse, RestLarpas (Leftovers): Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Confuse RayMew (Leftovers): Psychic, Earthquake, Ice Beam, SoftboiledLettuce is able to take down Articuno with two uses of AncientPower, but Zapdos's Drill Peck is far too powerful for it to handle. With so much of our team weak to electricity, we send in Charmeleon to take Zapdos down with Fire Blast and Flamethrower. Charmeleon manages to burn Kris's Snorlax before fainting to Earthquake.Klaus comes in swinging with Crabhammer, and although Snorlax hangs on long enough to use Curse, it faints from its burn shortly after. Kris sends out Lapras, who uses Confuse Ray and Thunderbolt to defeat Klaus, only taking a bit of damage from X-Scissor. Despite fearing Lapras's STAB moves, Bad Dragon's speed is enough to overpower it with Rock Slide. Bad Dragon and Mew go back and forth with Crunch and Ice Beam for several turns, until Mew eventually faints. Kris's final Pokémon, Moltres, is easily defeated with a single Rock Slide.
>>56449795Kris departs, and the wall opens up to reveal one final dungeon. It's quiet in here, and there are no wild Pokémon. The PokéGear can't even properly register our location.
Deep in the mysterious cavern, we encounter something.
>>56449744who the hell is Kris?
Had to take an important phone call, what'd I... Oh, this doesn't look good.>>56449876Kris is the female protagonist from the original Pokémon Crystal. This hack uses different designs for its protagonists (Rusty and Azure), so Kris shows at the peak of Mt. Silver instead. It is her game, after all.
The unidentifiable bird warps the reality around us, creating a battlefield. But before a battle can begin with the Missing One, a familiar voice echoes from the entrance of the cavern."Rick! There you are!"
>>56450074>look morty I turned into missigno I'm missigno Rick!
>>56450074The bird flies away, and Professor Elm hurries in to catch a glimpse of the Missing One before it escapes."What in the world was that...? The creature that escaped just now, could it have been a Pokémon? I've never seen anything like it before, have you? Oh dear, it seems I've interrupted an unusual event..."251 caught, 252 seen. Thanks a lot, Elm."I just got a call from my former assistant, Kris. She told me you managed to defeat her in a battle! That's an amazing feat, Rick! Congratulations! Oh, that's right... Rick, I wanted to ask you for another favor. I had planned to ask you to come to my lab, but.. Something about this place seems perfect for it. That mysterious Pokémon seems to have prepared this area for us...""Rick... You've defeated the nation's best Pokémon trainers. You've caught all 251 known species of Pokémon. You're truly the spitting image of a Pokémon Master! That's why I want to challenge you, Rick. I need to know if someone like me has what it takes to be your equal."
>>56450097Let's knock his block off.
>>56449738Holy based
>>56450101I won't spoil Elm's team because I haven't finalized it yet but we manage to sweep everything with Lettuce because I forgot to give Elm any items or Stat EXP and finish the fight without a scratch because his last mon was Feraligatr and Giga Drain slurped up all its HP."Whew... Well done! In all my life I've never seen such an intense battle, let alone participated in one for myself! I have nothing more to say! Rick... You really are a Pokémon Master!"
>>56450101I like his sprite
>>56450119Elm gives us a moving speech that I haven't written yet bringing back fond memories of our journey throughout Kanto and Johto, and wonders aloud what we'll do next. There's a mysterious 252nd Pokémon out there, after all. But for now, we'll head back to New Bark Town and reunite with our mother. She'll be glad to see us again after all this time. It might be nice to rest at home for a while. And that's the end of Another Crystal! Over the next two months I'll be implementing various tweaks and fixes based on notes I've taken throughout this playthrough, and I'll do another runthrough on my new Analogue Pocket to verify that (1) this hack functions on actual hardware and not just mGBA, and (2) Link Cable functionality can still work between two players running the same ROM. And obviously, this final sequence with Elm will be polished up and actually completed. The current roadmap is to finish 100% of Johto and engine-related tweaks by the end of this month, and then October will be spent on Kanto, the postgame, and cosmetic additions like more menu sprites and music tracks. The ultimate deadline for this project is November 21st, the 25th anniversary of Gold & Silver's Japanese release date. Above all else, I want to release this project in a state where it doesn't need any updates. One and done, no need for different versions to be floating out there and causing confusion. To everyone that participated in these threads and ultimately helped build the team we've stuck with since Olivine City, thank you so much. I hope that even though I've revealed about 95% of what this game has to offer in terms of content already, that you'll still explore the game for yourself when it releases. There are a lot of mechanical changes that I never brought up along the way, but the final ROM will come with in-depth documentation on that stuff. This was a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing something like this again. Thank you.
