I started rewatching the anime from the very beginning. I only ever saw some episodes as a kid out of order. Its kind of cool they can make shitmons look strong.
You hate this series because you want TrAsh back. I hate Horizons because it's dry as fuck and lacking in slapstick as a result of the dainty female protagonist. For my entire life, Pokémon has been a silly show. I can't be assed about Lucius, Terapagos, the Explorers, none of it. I don't want Ash back, I just want a less bloated premise for a new Pokémon anime, and one that ties more into the core tenets of the Pokémon games. I don't care for the 'mystery', the legendary element, the rather excessive amount of characters (some of which are still woefully underdeveloped), and the deus ex machina elements that really plagued the first year of this show. The cast bloat is directly responsible for Liko and Roy only having 2 mons this deep into the show, and it kinda sucks. Captures are fun and I want more of them.

My problem with Liko and Roy is that they're too polite, overly nice, and have way too many adult characters to obey. It feels different from the og anime, It's more story focused and more consistent in tone. The pacing can feel very slow or too fast though, and while their character development wasn't ignored I felt that the main duo was too dependent on the adult supporting cast in the first two arcs. Despite that I feel that every set up has a satisfying payoff at the end and is good seeing Liko, Roy and Dot getting stronger in their own pace. Amethio, Sando, Onyx and Spinel are cool antagonists as well, especially Spinel.
