There's only so many times different directors, writers, etc. can answer "why is Misty gone" and not be fed up with people. The fanbase pitched a fit over Ash losing in Kalos, harassed writers about Serena not advancing with Ash during the ball episode, and then went schizoid over the kiss. It's no wonder Misty got memory holed for ten years after AG and Serena got to have one episode in JN with almost no interaction with Ash. The sane fans were happy with what they got and the insane ones got to leave miserable as they should be. We probably won't get any explicit romance with any of the kids or Amethio. Maybe Friede and Orio by the end, since apparently adults can get together in Pokemon. Hopefully after a few more gen cycles of this, the fanbase will get less psychotic about ships.
