Given half of it is completely optional and out of the way of actually completing the game and the only worthwhile thing to even note in this entire route is that it has Jigglypuff, most people who grew up with Hoenn don't even know this place exists. Would be cool if it actually had shit but because it doesn't there's no reason to be here and it's another instance of Hoenn failing to make Surfing engaging

This is the only route where you can find wild Jigglypuff and Swellow. The TM for Focus Punch is here too. Fuck you zoomer.

bad take. it's a fun little secret and you get a couple items and a rare Pokemon. part of the reason Hoenn is such a rich region is because of these little optional areas that aren't essential to progress, but reward you for exploring. and all the little shortcuts that give you all kinds of ways to traverse the region. it makes it feel real and not just like a themepark you're being guided through.

In R/S?
The path coming south from Mt. Pyre and then going back West to meet with the berry farm and then the split.
I can't even tell you what's there. There's a berry farm. But I'm pretty sure that's lower than the ledge, so you find that, or can find it, earlier on.

This path must be memorable, because I feel like there's a karate person on the north beach, and they say it's their secret training spot.
If this is correct, then I remembered something from it. If not, then... it's not forgettable.
It's misrememberable.

Technically you couldn't call it a forgettable route since it has the berry farm on it, but yeah the rest of route 123 is pretty forgettable. It's just one of those annoying one way routes without anything really interesting about it. You get the Giga Drain TM here but it's just hidden behind the cut trees on the right and not on the actual ledges.

never played it, but enough time has passed where I haven't played a pokemon game, that I'm considering it.
But then I start to think about the logistics of getting my bros from Ultra Moon onto SwSh, and remember that:
1. No more National Dex
2. 3DS services are gone
3. Everyone I know, (As in actually know, not you randos) said the game was bland, lacking, and they hated it.
Sooo... I guess lets play Emerald Horizons? Pokemon is dead.
>>
>>56520621
Gen VI/VII servers are gone, but Pokémon Bank still works. Pretty sure it's the only official 3DS servers that still work aside from system updates. (catch is that you need to have the latest Bank version on the 3DS to use it, there is no way to download it anymore aside from CFW)

I mean, you don't HAVE to move your Pokemon over to play the game. you could just give it a shot and if you don't like it, keep your bros on the 3DS.
fwiw though I was in a similar position, gave up Pokemon for a few years and decided recently to give SWSH a chance. I made it like 2 hours in and never touched it again. it's just boring.

I have Pokemon Bank, but no idea if it's the latest version.
I'm the type that has 'mons that I got from friends and family on the original Sapphire and Leaf Green carts, and transferred them forward with each game and each generation.
Their trainer IDs mean something to me, even when it's just data to others.
So the idea of Pokemon Home being literal randsomware is why all of my pokemon are stuck in permanent vacation in Alola.

>>56520731
>>56521227
So much about Galar made me really excited early on. The idea of pokemon matches in stadiums made more sense to me then whatever Gyms are, since the very first ep of the Anime.
The gimmick was something I rolled my eyes at, at first, but kaiju battles are neat. I just wish they didn't replace Mega evolution.
I like a good chunk of the new 'mons.
I feel like it could have been good, if they had left it in the oven a bit longer.

Also, why are they trying to make Rotom the new Pikachu? I used to like Rotom before Gen 7, and it wouldn't shut up so that I could use it as a map.
>>
>>56522839
I was able to update my Bank version using CFW (hShop) and the Bank servers didn't give a shit. despite me trying to log in using an outdated version before.
Hadn't used Bank since 2017 and I was flabbergasted they never wiped my Bank boxes, it was all still there.
>>
>>56520378
You mean Wailord, right? Any dedicated player who wants to access the Sealed Chamber knows this route as a way to bypass having to catch a wild Wailmer and evolve it.
>>
>>56523005
I used Bank to transfer between 3DS games, but didn't trust that the servers wouldn't be wiped, so all my pokemon are on the game cart, safe.
Except for cosplay pikachu, which I don't think was allowed outside of ORAS.

But I think Gen VIII and IX wipe ribbon data, the game mark denoting whether the pokemon was from before Gen VI, From Kalos, or from the GB virtual console games, or from Alola.
I think unique movepools and abilities also get reworked. But this isn't new to the Switch games.
...Still doesn't change the fact that hundreds of pokemon just cannot be transferred to the new games after the Nat Dex was removed.
>>
>>56523077
Ribbon data is still intact, even the Gen III-only stuff like the Artist ribbon and Earth ribbon carry over. Gen III/IV contest/Battle Tower ribbons did get collapsed into a single legacy ribbon but that happened back in Gen VI.
Pretty sure old locales still show properly as well, including "a distant land" for Colosseum/XD:
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Game_of_origin
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Origin_mark

As for dexcut stuff, you can still keep all of them in Home. If that doesn't do it for you you could stick to transferring mons you know you can store in whatever game you want to play.

The absolute champion of forgettable routes (and caves) is Gold/Silver/Crystal for the sole reason that you stumble into them before being able to actually explore them and they are so shit to navigate anyway so you end up ignoring them altogether.

You come across Dark Cave before the first gym, but you lack Flash and Rock Smash so you shrug and move to Violet.
You go through Union Cave before Azalea but you don't have surf, so you just cross it and forget about it.
You enter the Slowpoke Well at Azalea, but most of it is locked behind surf, so you just beat the Rockets at the starting area and leave.
There's the Whirl Islands close to Cianwood but you can't enter them until later, so you ignore it.
Mt. Mortar is just after Ecruteak but you can't explore it without Waterfall, so you just cross the main bridge to Mahogany and that's it.
Route 46 is right next to Blackthorne and has some trainers and good Pokémon to catch, but the route feels like some beta version leftover that it's so shit to navigate so you leave.
>>
>>56523227
So it's like Sinnoh, but at least you actually have the necessary HMs to navigate an area when you can initially access it?
And yeah, I unfortunately agree. At least Tin/Bell Tower is pretty great
>>
>>56523227
Union cave is memorable in that it's where Anthony? The Hiker guy lets you know when there's a swarm of Dunsparce.
I'd almost say Ilex forest is forgettable. Or more so, I'm so sick of being in Azalea and just want to get to Goldenrod by the time I finally get cut.
>have to kick Team Rocket out of the well
>have to battle the Bug Girl* Gym Leader
>have to fight your rival
>have to chase a duck through the forest while running into shitmons
>get cut
>have to go through the forest proper, this time.
>fuck, FINALLY. Civilization. And more importantly, gambling!
>>
>>56523275
>I'd almost say Ilex forest is forgettable
It being associated with Celebi (even if it's basically only available in one version of Crystal that you can't even buy anymore) makes it memorable enough
>>
>>56523307
Does an NPC even specifically mention Celebi by name, or was it just 'The Guardian of the Forest' or something like that?
Because, then players playing it for the first time wouldn't associate the forest with Celebi.
They'd likely associate it with Headbutt.
Or Farfetch'D.
>>
>>56523366
>Does an NPC even specifically mention Celebi by name,
No. I think the first time a Mythical is mentioned by name (that isn't Mew) is Manaphy in Platinum?
>Because, then players playing it for the first time wouldn't associate the forest with Celebi.
The shrine is too unique of an overworld sprite to not stick out even if you don't know the purpose of it.
>>
>>56519158
Took 3 posts to just say "Jigglypuff." That's the only argument you need.
>>
>>56523378
IIRC I never paid much attention, it looked like a birdhouse of sorts.

>>56523227
The ironic part is that when you finally have all the HMs, you leave Johto to explore Kanto, but GSC Kanto has nothing to explore, just a lot of trainers that are weaker than the E4 anyway.
>>
>>56523227
Backtracking and exploration are what made the world charming. More recent games feel lifeless.
>>56523275
Antony is actually found in the route outside the Union cave. Union cave is memorable because of Lapras.
>>
>>56523227
>This absolute BITCH NIGGA doesn't return to previous areas to look for newly unlocked parts after getting an HM.
Filtered. I can understand not wanting to return to places like slowpoke well or dark cave cause they lack much stuff, but Union cave and Mt Mortar are fruitful as fuck to return to.
>>
>>56519090
I remember going to a friend‘s secret base here in ORAS.
>>
>>56522839
>Also, why are they trying to make Rotom the new Pikachu?
a combination of being the equivalent of that ghost from youkai watch (when it was relevant), actually playing with the pokedex says about the mon and porygon sill being memoryholed in all pokemon media but master sex for some weird reason
>>
>>56524674
why didn't they port Yo-Kai Watch 4 to the switch?
I don't know if anyone here played Yo-Kai Watch 3, but aside from some sluggish pacing in spots and some Dragon Quest Monsters-esque Reskins for the Monsters,
it has iterative map design and a whole second ass game tacked onto it.

It would be like if Pokemon Emerald took place in Hoenn, but then you could also go to Johto, Kanto, and the Sevii Islands. And then it was Also Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue, where any Pokemon you rescue get sent back to the RPG, and any Pokemon from the RPG can participate in the Mystery Dungeon.

It's really no surprise the Pokemon Company were spooked (pun intended) by Yo-Kai Watch.
The Yo-Kai watch games are just... better.

My omega Ruby stopped working out of nowhere, hadn't played it in a while and when I tried to boot it it was dead. Neither of my 2 3DS will read it and neither will Bank.
I bought AS used and the game wouldn't make it past the opening cutscene to the save file menu. Bank read it but I can't play.

I've heard people have similar problems with XY but my X is fine. I have not checked SM/USUM but it seems the 3DS carts aren't very good, and I've heard similar things with Switch but not as prevalent. I don't trust the cloud 100% but I've had a cart die on me so it's the best bet.
>>
i actually fucking hated this route in ruby, because a collector trainer had a seviper and i was fucking PISSED about it.
ended up buying a copy of sapphire a year later
