JRPGs depend on story and characters, the gameplay damn sure isn't what people play them for

OP ain't wrong.
Pokemon as a whole from the earlier gens was effectively an indie company that struck gold, and in the later gens is a company drowning in the crunch with the same indie developer mindset.

SV has a good story though.

The gameplay isn't what people play most JRPGs for, but in this case the core gameplay loop of catching and battling Pokemon is fun and has carried the series largely unchanged for decades
>>
Why playing pokemon at this point?

Only because the Pokemon designs are good. It's carried by good creature design and the merch based on those creatures.

Nah, the gameplay loop is strong enough to help. It's why Legends kept the core loop while changing the extraneous details around it.

I don't care about the story, I care about the single player component of the game that people often generalize as the "story mode".
And it's often not great.
>>
>>56958302
I just play pokemon to get lost in a colourful world and go on an adventure with my pokemon bros. I could care less about anything else

Are we talking about gen 4 or gen 5? Gen 5 wasn't that buggy or glitchy, though every other point definitely applies best to gen 5 out of any gen.

That is quite literally the only reason people play jrpg other than persona.
>>
>>56958324
This is true, but Pokemon is unique in this respect. Pokemon has objectively the best gameplay of any turn based RPG, as proven by its robust competitive scene.

Gen 4. It doesn't really fit gen 5.

I play for the designs, the music is nice too
