If I toss 2 things on the bench i'm somewhat safe, but then when the tree dies and Venu is out, whatever weak pieces of shit are on my bench have just become liabilities.

What direction do you think gym leader supports are going to go? Right now there's 3 types, ones that cover an entire type, ones that target specific Pokemon and general typeless ones like Sabrina and Giovanni. They gotta have the play data that shows specific ones like Brock, Blaine and Koga are played far less than the others. They gotta know that Misty is overwhelmingly played because energy acceleration is insane even with a coin flip. If they cared about power creep they'd probably stick to Pokemon specific leaders which will also force players to chase those Pokemon as well. and of course, if they didn't care about power creep we're just going to get more type targeting leaders that'll make misty look like a joke
