Just found out about a glitch(?) you can do to get mystery gift pokemon from Gen 4 and 5. Are there any downsides to this? And will I be allowed to get items so I can finally get fucking Darkrai?

You mean the alternative dns servers? It’s not a glitch per say. But no, there’s no real downside to using them, outside of the fact that you’re using external shit so morally your event mon won’t be as legit as one obtained through an actual in game glitch like the tweaking trick.
