The plan was to tank attacks, get some damage in with rocky helmet, switch out and finish off. What actually happens is that once people figure out they can't kill you they ignore you. Probably something everyone knew but I didn't, RH doesn't activate when you block with King's Shield and Protect. Substitute was there to have a target to lock on to for protect if someone used a disappearing attack like fly, dig or bounce. It does work, but you're not attacking. It's basically the whole problem with an offensive oriented game. The build overall is too passive to accomplish anything. I'll probably try it again with Endure, KS, Reflect and Metal Sound. The one time I tried an all attack Aegislash it died to everything.

I need a bit of help with something, I've finished the entire game and basically only have 8 side quests left, but for some reason my music selection when I go in online ranked is EXTREMELY limited. The last music I have unlocked is Jacinque's theme, so I'm missing quite literally every single song from Team Flare's to Lysandre and 100% Zygarde.
Shouldn't it have unlocked normally by just playing the story? Am I missing something?

Forget about the pokemon you want to use being able to go 1v1 with any of Xerneas/Metagross/Garchomp - You need to experiment with your pokemon and find the conditions it needs to beat certain pokemon.
For example, with Ariados, you would obviously like to use it to kill Xerneas since you have the type advantage, but you know you can't 1v1 Xerneas since it's stats are so much higher. The Xerneas would need to have already taken damage from other players for you to be able to safely kill it. So, you need to play a few games and feel out roughly how much damage a Poison Jab can do to Xerneas. What about when you've used Swords Dance? What about when you've picked up the damage boost item? If, for example, a Swords Dance-boosted Poison Jab does roughly 3/4 to Xerneas, then you now know that if you're in a game with Ariados out and you see a Xerneas at less than 3/4 health, you're good to Swords Dance and go for the kill.
Maybe also think about how your specific pokemon can take advantage of the way other players react to it. Ariados is frail and weak to Psychic. Even though a Starmie or Slowbro would be scared of taking a Megahorn, or even though a Gardevoir would be scared of taking a Poison Jab, they might use Psychic on you, thinking that it will kill you at range before you can get close. So, you could give your Ariados a Payapa Berry or a Focus Sash for that specific scenario, so you'll survive the hit and kill them back before they have a chance to switch out. So you know have a guaranteed kill condition.

Well, otherwise way less people would play online. The season 1 rewards were trash and I literally never did a single battle after reaching rank A, but in season 2 I do them very often solely due to the rewards. Meanwhile The Z-A Royale is the best way to make money, if you're running low for let's say vitamins or clothes , so you'll also want to do it with the bonus of maybe getting something good in the ticket match you unlock, or maybe you don't like online battles so you always have the option

A free-for-all mode with a limited Pokedex with 3 or 4 (I don't know if Diancie is restricted or not) restricted Pokemon and one of them in particular can bowl over the rest of the game is a fucking problem, one that can't be ignored. You either bring your own Xerneas, or you bring a team capable of dealing with it. The fucking deer is the problem, you're never gonna see Yveltal and I only saw 2 Zygardes on my way to rank A. Maybe with the DLC adding the weather trio it can be managed better, but right now ranked is miserable because of it, and you can look at any post here since S2 started that shares the same sentiment.

I’m finding Metagross harder and harder to use because it attacks so slowly and everything packs some kind of counter for it

Used Mega Zygote in 5 games and so far it's fine, but you really need some Steel type to pivot into Xerneas and Ice types. Sadly, only Metagross seems to do that job consistently in the current dex. Maybe Klefki could be interesting.

I really like emboar in ranked, its really strong, good bulk too, flare blitz and close combat are reliable moves that move you to the target, and good coverage with wild charge (one shots gyarados who run to you when they see a fire type) and head smash picks up a lot of surprise KOs, it's even neutral to all xerneas attacks, only problem is garchomp and the bulky waters

try it if you think it fits your team

I run Flareon because it has half as much health, have as many moves, and is four times as cute. its also much, much smaller.

I use mega, muscle band or expert belt should be ok too, life orb would be too much recoil due to three of the moves having recoil
The rest is standard, Hp/Attack Max Evs
Moves Close Combat, Flare Blitz, Wild Charge and Head Smash, could change the latter two with Thunder Punch/ Earthquake/ Poison Jab/ Iron head depending on what you need, dude has insane coverage. I only run it with Wild Charge and Head Smash though, every time I changed them I regretted it
