I skipped out at launch primarily due to the performance issues and bugs. Is there a decent game underneath that to at least make a single playthrough of the story worth it? Feels weird to not play it at all and just skip this gen entirely now that gen 10 is coming.

Genuine answer: No.If you care about story, you have story bits at the very beginning and then 30 minutes before the end. The openworld is empty, there almost not side features (like minigames) and the game doesn't even offer a Battle Tower clone. DLCs are ""slightly"" better but they aren't worth it imo. You can watch the story parts on youtube and skip this with no problems

It's just fun to roam and look for new Pokémon. The exp share system pretty much requires you to constantly switch up your team anyway, so it's rewarding to add new stuff to your team.The story is surprisingly good for a Pokémon game. It's obviously no literary masterpiece, but it's got charming characters and an intriguing, cohesive plot with a satisfying finale.I think SV is genuinely good underneath its terribly unpolished surface.

It's quite good despite itself. The performance is terrible and the landscape graphics are dated, but the game itself is enough fun to play that the negatives don't really matter. The game gives you enough things to do in the background while you drive around catching pokemon, and the characters/plot are fun. You can tell it was a covid game, but it's so much better than SwSh it's hard to even explain without spending 30+ minutes typing up a rant.Also if you have a switch 2 it never dips below 60fps with non-existent load times. Definitely a recommendation in that case
Just play ZA and wait for the Geb 10 announcement in a few months

I had a good time with the game. Its not my favorite and never will be but it's "good" for a switch era game. It's the best mainline one. While I enjoyed PLA and ZA they are not truly mainline as much as pokemon wants them to be. Out of all the switch games this one will give you the most mileage in terms of content. And I do genuinely think it will age the best.

As a normal turn based Pokemon game, it's fine. Not the best we've had, but it doesn't nearly deserve the hate it gets. Like literally any Pokemon game made in the past decade or so, the tutorial is long and painful and will take an hour or two before they let you fuck off and do what you want.On the whole, it is just a new Pokemon game and if you've ever actually liked Pokemon and aren't the doomposting retard type that outright refuses to see past whatever minor issues it has instead of hyperfixating on them like an autist, you will like this game. Otherwise, you'll look at it and call it a PS2 game that barely works and cry about textures or shit that has nothing to do with the gameplay.Also I think Scarlet/Violet started the thing where they've been going all out for the finale of the main game, this and Legends ZA have had very good endings. They also both run better on the Switch 2, so if you want the game to run and look a little better play it on that instead. If you don't mind locked 30FPS, then it'll run fine on the Switch.
