Careful, /vp/ is full of etymology experts who will argue this entomological discovery over the merits of kanji or some shit, completely ignoring that the modern computer is a white mans' invention.

Ofc not.
They programme in kana, which has no errors.

But then it wouldn't fall into my favourite category of pokemon: bugs that aren't bug-type.

>>
>>58660855
Well that's not really a problem given that English is the ruling canon language in names, terms and other such things, while Japanese is a secondary relic.
>>
>>58661149
pokemon like Kirinriki (Girafarig) and Odoshishi (Stantler) are Japanese jokes that don't work as well in English
>but those pokemon are old!
Galarian Darmanitan is also a play on how snowmen are called "yukidaruma" in Japanese
>>
>>58661214
That's neat, but I still feel English > Japanese. Anyway, I said what I said because I felt that "Because it doesn't work like that in Japanese" was a flimsy excuse. Especially because English, in the context of Pokemon, is IMO, infinitely more iconic than Japanese.
That's not to say that there aren't any great Japanese names, some might, just maybe, be better than some of the English names. In fact, going broader, there're definitely at least a handful of international names that match or surpass their English equivalents. Like Amphinobi > Greninja or Grotadmorv > Muk.

>>
>>58661605
porygon isn't a normal animal though, he was made in a computer, in which case he falls squarely into the definition of a computer bug.
>>
>>58661605
Software bugs are named as such because a physical bug got zapped by an old style computer it crawled into and caused it to malfunction
It checks out
>>
>>58661617
>porygon isn't a normal animal though
Exactly. Therefore it has nothing to do with bugs. Glad we agree, retard.

Porygon line or maybe porygon z should be able to change typing like silvally and arceus. It's literally the line's gimmick from gen1 but manual conversion is retarded. It should have a protean like ability or an item that changes it's type

Looks like its describing the bugs that cause computer bugs, not directly related to Porygon Z but not unrelated either.

Deoxys is only Psychic because for whatever reason gamefreak decided that psychic is the default type for legendaries for a while. If Deoxys wasn't legendary he would be bug type as well
>>
>>58662154
The fact of the matter is all virus pokemon are psychic.
>>
why do people get so anal about this? it would be cool
obviously it's not gonna happen because types never change so just say it would be neat, that's all

Thats based and real though?
>>
>>58662172
>that makes literally no sense to anyone but ESLs?
Are you fucking stupid? It works because they share the same word, this isn't something only an ESL would put together out of confusion, it's a fundamental aspect of the english word, AND THIS IS HOW THEY DESIGN A TON OF POKEMON IN JAPANESE ALREADY. This is common in literally every piece of media that makes designs. Double entendres! It's normal! Dumbass. If Pokemon was an english-language game series toxtricity would have probably been designed as elec/rock. God you're just so fucking dumb.
>>
I wish there was a Mega Porygon-Z
>>
>>58662266
>It works because they share the same word,
Except it doesn’t, because words can share vastly different meanings, and because you’re a dumbfuck ESL, you can’t grasp this.

Probably because Bug-types are just arthropods and their close relatives. Gamefreak hasn’t really expanded the type beyond that. They’ve always just been bugs.

>>58660919
>Originating with Thomas Edison in the 1800s, the term "bug" is still used widely to describe a mistake or failure in a technical system

Literally the reason this event was notable was because people went "Ha, we already call problems with machines bugs and this time an actual bug is responsible!". They did not get the term from the incident.

Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green have the Pattern Bush. A forest that resembles a Game boy chip. And the only Pokémon you can find there are bug-type.

Not Porygon, but they will definitely do it now considering americans now control the franchise
