A thread for the creation and discussion of fan fiction and other fanworks - anything that involves a story and/or reading. What've you been reading? What've you been writing? What would you like to see more of?>Thread question:What's a piece of fanon that became canon in your eyes?>Previous thread:>>59335568
What stops my Kadabra from teleporting you to the middle of nowhere?
>>59341168I thought people would get the joke, Rhys has reddish pink hair and he has bed head, brightly colored feathers are seen as attractive to Sneasel's and Weaviles. The joke is that he has bed head, his hair is splayed out on his pillow and sort of looks like a headcrest of feathers.Well I ended up removing it in editing anyways so it's not like it matters, enjoy it while it lasts.
Okay, I've spent the last two days reading threadfics inbetween my own writing and I've got some thoughts on them:>Spice and FoxGood as far as Journey fics go, not my favoured format but it kept me engaged enough to read to the latest chapter. The sharp pivot to the 'Theft and Potential Pokerape' storyline was a tad jarring, but it still earned the bookmark and my continued interest. Not sure what the deal with the poacher character was though. MC is serviceable and chaired a linoone pretty good, supporting cast are interesting and varied, and the pokemon are entertaining characters. Some fics seem to forget about the pokemon sometimes and focus a lot on the humans.>Pokemon: MahoganyOnly three chapters so far, features a young rich nerd ninja and his travelling partner Clair (yes the dragon one) leaving on a journey through (I think) 1960s-1970s Johto. MC has a sneasel that's a bit of a firecracker and already an interesting mon to follow, and there has already been an interesting fakemon introduced which fit well into the setting. Relationship between the two characters currently can be summed up with 'The writer wants to really fuck Clair'. I'll be following this one as well.>SELLOUTSNot really my jam, a bit too schizo for me personally but it has an artistic merit to it. I'll probably still keep up with it and check in every few chapters or so. I enjoyed the part where the milotic was beheaded, and the (alleged) cropdusting of the fellow custodians/the entire building with illicit drugs to ensure compliance.
>>59341282It really grinds my gears when a psychic kidnapping occurs like this, especially against a healthy, decently powerful pokemon.I'm sorry kids but your worldbuilding just collapses if any Teleporter can shunt anyone away at any moment regardless of power disparity. Why would Zinnia need Rayquaza to deal with the meteor when all she needs is a little Abra? Why wouldn't the villains just spam grunts with Teleportmons at the MC until their evil plan is finished? Why wouldn't a Teleporter just dump others 500 feet into the air?Suspension of disbelief shattered.

>>59341305>A Crazed CreationAh, another schizo fic, this time with a PMD flavour. Never got into PMD and haven't read many fics in the setting, but my god does the author seem keen to fill the reader in on the setting. I don't think a character can even get up from the couch to take a shit without giving a detailed retelling of why everything is pretty shit, but still not as shit as before, in a higher wordcount than my thesis. There is obviously a lot of thought and passion that the writer has put into the world, but I would personally prefer to see it after the main character(characters, rather) has managed to make it more than an hour away from where they first woke up. The encampment battle was cool and very well done though, and even if the fic is certainly more experimental in style and themes it still held my attention to the end and earned a follow.>Prince of Po TownExcellent fic that I enjoyed greatly, currently eager for the next chapter to drop. The main character can grate a little at points and I think gets stuff handed to him a little too easy, along with using the accursed 'prior knowledge' cheat, but the supporting characters do make up for it a lot. I don't need to mention that Tupp is a bro, but Plumeria is also a nice lynchpin of the group. Plot so far is also solid and well thought out, and the story arcs fit together well with a natural sense of progression.

>>59341168>>59341174>Why is the sneasel line so popular with the degens in this thread?I didn't know CSP and CC had a Sneasel/Weavile until recently, but that wouldn't really change my decision. I wanted a Kanto or Johto pokemon that had a regional (preferably Hisuian) form which contrasted strongly against it's Kanto/Johto counterpart with the MC having the Kanto/Johto version of the mon. Typhlosion was out since it's a third stage, Arcanine would appear anyways and I wanted to use it as Clair's mon so it's out, Rattata and Grimer were too plain and Grunt-like, Giovanni has a persian, Diglet and Sandshrew are a bit boring. Sneasel kind of had the biggest and strangest change from Posion/Fighting to Dark/Ice which seemed interesting. Vulpix actually ended up as a close second, some of my ideas for a Vulpix starter will probably come up in Mahogany eventually.Non-Kanto and Johto mons I though of were Zoroark, also a ninja-mon and Goodra. The first felt a bit too-typical for me, also too waifu-monish. While Goodra was also a good pick since the main difference between it's Hisuian and Kalosian form is diet, not genetics, which is interesting, but I see first stage dragons as baby-mons meaning I'd have to give both Rhys and Clair another party member anyways and honestly I don't want their teams to have too much overlap so them both having a dragon that's personalty is "its a baby" didn't sit rightI also have a bunch of ideas for Sneaslers, Sneasels, and Weaviles, which I was vague posting about three years ago or so.My only regret is that Sneasel are a bit type cast as bratty, firecracker-types with attitude. Not like I'm changing any of that mind you.I'd just like to see a different Sneasel one day, maybe a polite, sad, or heroic one.>>59341177>Squirtle line is also in three different threadficsHey what can I say, I like the line, and I also like betamons, I wanna include some of them somehow.
I can't help but roll my eyes whenever the narration describes a Pokemon that appears for the first time in the story. I already know what they look like, move on
>>59341345>I'd just like to see a different Sneasel one dayI mean, the lucario movie weaviles were not really bratty pranksters...
>>59341360But what if the MC is not a pokemon expert and doesn't know?
>>59341382the narration is for the reader, not the characters
>>59341395I'm talking about third person narration btw
>>59341282Kadabra getting punched in the throat before it goes off. The move probably takes upwards of like four or five seconds for a distant teleport also.
Finished reading Spice and Fox.Great story so far, though the sudden change in plot was a bit of a whiplash. Exciting stuff though, with a cool mc who can actually fight himself somewhat, but I do miss Fennekin/Braixen.There were some very funny scenes like Fennekin fake-fainting that made me laugh, so good job on that. Always appreciate when pokemon have clear distinct personalities.

I have this idea of a NEET girlfailure getting isekai'd as Cynthia at the peak of her popularity.Something something the comedy of dealing with the press, being unable to give decent commands/strategies to her powerful pokemon and fumbling every social interaction with people being disappointed with meeting Cynthia.Kinda like starting at the top but it's too hardcore for a beginner to handle.

I posted way too late last thread.I'm having my MC go through KANTOOOOOOOO for her first journey and I'm set on giving her a bratty Misdreavus before her first attempt at the league. How should I give one to her?I'm thinking of either>she tries breaking into Mt Silver before collecting the first 8 badges batch needed and gets escorted/rescued by league officials, but a Misdreavus follows her afterwardsOr>a channeler offers to trade her one for a Meowth without telling her that the Misdreavus is an uncontrollable gremlinO maybe I should consider a mix of both?
>>59341306Don't underestimate Abra-sama or he'll teleport you into the sun.
>>59341360What if there are pokemon with, God forbid, nicknames?
>>59342533>"Go Boreas!" Serufinshart shouted as he released his Snom.Boreas is a Greek god of winter btw
>>59342547I haven't read much but just the idea of Greek pantheon nicknames sound trite and tiring.
>>59342565You don't like Loki the Zoroark/Gengar/Weavile/Absol/Murkrow/etc?
>>59342565I've not run into many of them but it was still enough that even before it got meme'd on in these threads I was so fucking tired of seeing Norse and Greek god nicknames
>>59342521Or the Misdreavus gets blown off of the mountain by a strong wind and crashes head first into your MC.It really just depends on how much of an impact you want their first meeting to have on the dynamic of their relationship.
>>59342521Depends, does she behave consistently with the first option? As in, does she do often do gremlin shit herself? Does she ignore rules a bunch? Is is in character for her to break into Mt. Silver? If yes, then the first option is kino, as she gains a pokemon that is similar to herself, and you can have them be foils to each other as the work progresses and you can do some parallelism with their character development. If no, then don't do the first one.Shrimple.
>>59342391The hard thing is not running out of ideas, you make a dump txt file for this exact reason, the hard thing is transforming the ideas you have in your dump into something readable first and then weaving them into your story.
>>59342579>It really just depends on how much of an impact you want their first meeting to have on the dynamic of their relationship. Misdreavus' role would mostly be to teach her that her chuuni aspirations are going to cost her and learning to balance her authority as a trainer with her fascination with ghost types. She's impatient and wants Misdreavus to start putting in work fast but it's unruly, gets distracted, wanders off, and just causes mischief at her expense, hence why I thought of making it a kind of willed for twist addition to the team.>>59342600>Depends, does she behave consistently with the first option? As in, does she do often do gremlin shit herself? Does she ignore rules a bunch? Is is in character for her to break into Mt. Silver? On occasion, yeah. She has this witch/evil apparition persona and is proud and ambitious, so if something gets in the way of her coming closer to embodying that in reality, she flies off the handle and does what she believes is needed, not what's right.
>>59342612Choosing which ideas to actually use is the worst part, especially if they're mutually exclusive with each other. You can only have one starter. Your MC can only have one backstory. etc.
>>59342442Depends on her kinks... Since she's a woman i'd say 50/50 because i'm writing a diabetuus fic (she might only enjoy the opposite as far as i know)
>>59341321Thank you for the kind words CSPanon, glad you enjoyed it! Lots more to come.>>59341818Plumeria is BAE! You’re probably getting to my favorite scene of hers (in a gazebo of all places).>>59342521Mt. Silver seems like a fun intro but it makes your MC seem kind of like an idiot to readers unless they go with someone (and get separated by accident). How attached to canon are you? You could just have the Misdreavus hanging out at a graveyard on the outskirts of their hometown.
>>59342492Cop badge.Sports medal.I'm not wrong, everybody else is.
>>59342442She's a larper booktoker
>>59342633>Mt. Silver seems like a fun intro but it makes your MC seem kind of like an idiot to readers unless they go with someone (and get separated by accident). She's a bit of an idiot who gets a big head whenever she's on a roll. She would make an attempt on Mt Silver because she absolutely must have a Misdreavus on her team for the league.>How attached to canon are you? Loosely but not too much. I'm going more with the games canon than anime or manga canon, but with little references to both added in.>You could just have the Misdreavus hanging out at a graveyard on the outskirts of their hometown.I was convinced that Misdreavus are not as attached to graveyards as other ghost types since they are based on the Banshees, so the role is to do the same as Banshees.
How do you name your chapter? I use corny anime episode titles, like: Going for the Gold! A Battle That Stirs Up a Storm!
>>59342695I try to identify an element that appears throughout the chapter’s narrative and just say that. If it’s a prominent fight or battle I’ll reference that. The overall goal is to give a good summation of the chapter’s events so that when you or a reader is scrolling through chapter titles, it’ll be easier to remember the events easily.

Imagine a bittersweet story about a bug-type trainer and his ex-wife, who is a fighting-type trainer, and how they are living with their divorce and their daughter, and their pokemons. It's been three years, and now they have a mature relationship, but people around them are uncomfortable whenever they talk about their divorce.
>>59341068Not at all, just that having two Fighting-type Pokemon that are there to die feels repetitive.
>>59342814But it wouldn't be the same though, right? When a Primeape pops a blood vessel and ascends to Ghosthood they're still around, but when another Fighting type dies they actually leave and go straight to hell.
>>59342817Marowak was a ground type and she still haunted the pokemon tower
>>59342817Setting aside that Fighting types are hellbound, I want the death of the other Fighting-type to be an impetus of big change in the trainer's character. If the Primeape dies after the fact, even if it becomes Annihilape, it'll undercut that change because they still had another Pokemon die.
>>59342879Is it really death if they're still there, have a physical body, feel things, can eat things, can still suffer harm, aren't being dragged into hell, etc?
If your Annihilape isn't named Asura you're a fraud that will probably name it Kratos or some greek shit
>>59342941Asura doesn't appear in Marvel or Percy Jackson so I'm afraid the average writer doesn't know about him or it.
>>59342941And I forgot the damn pic, man, rainy days fuck up my mind more than usual...
>>59342695>>59342721Same, but sometimes it's hard to find something recognizable that doesn't spoil the chapter too much but that also gives you an idea of which chapter it was

>>59342547To be fair, overly ostentatious names on small cute pokemon I feel should get a pass. A manetric called Thor is try hard. A dunsparce named Midgardsomr is funny.

>>59342621Weak. I could give my MC a different backstory every chapter. Readers will adjust.

>>59343346Close enough to Loki, you may as well go full send.
>>59343350>LokiWhat? Fuck that. He's named Loxley, as in Sir Robin of Loxley. He's named after an archer.
>>59342695Both Crystal Light and PokeNormal have chapter naming conventions. Crystal Light is 'Thing Color', with primary colors being reserved for important chapters. First chapter is 'Chaos Black', second chapter is 'Pirate Cyan', etc. I'm a tad worried I'll run out of colors, but I realized I can have fun with really obscure colors. Whipped out 'Royal Chartreuse' for the latest chapter because it had to deal with a lot of royals and chartreuse seemed needlessly fancy to fit the bill. Oh, and I think its a type of green and the characters involved had a lot of green theming. PokeNormal has a sort of children's mystery novel series thing going for chapter names. 'Case of the Blah Blah', since each chapter has a sort of central 'mystery' that it deals with. Two words that describe the core mysterious thing the chapter deals with, but in a vague way that hopefully makes the reader question what it could mean. And then after they read the chapter they can read the title again and would understand why its called that. So 'Case of the Phantom Appointment' is about Josalyn's appointment that she doesn't remember making or 'Case of the Sleeping Princess' is about the nightmare Erika doppelganger.
>>59342941I named him after the Japanese word for pig, because the Mankey line are pig apes.
>>59343335That works, because Bugs Bunny ruined the name Nimrod for generations.
>>59343296Curious to know where you're at, as that applies to a lot of things. Although Daria’s rocks for brains wouldn’t help when it comes to fighting certain alphas.

>>59343508Brief descriptionPikachu - yellow ratsmoochum - pink toddlerUnless you want to give them some gravitas or its from the pov of someone unfamiliar with that species, then you write something longer.
>>59343508Like human characters, pokemon should be described if their appearance is important. Also like human characters, pokemon should have unique characteristics that may inform the reader of their character or experiences. Words are cheaper than art. We can afford to make individual pokemon unique goddamn it.

>>59343607It depends wholly on the reader's autism.

>>59343607The anime will find many reasons to ignore ground immunity, I think the hardcore fans don't forgive that kind of stuff. As a writer you would need to introduce a new move that ignores ground immunity like a Freeze Dry sort of move, but don't introduce it in a decisive match, you need to show it in a low-stakes scenario or with characters talking about it. If you foreshadow that the move exists, then I guess readers will accept it.

Mein negros I require your expert aid. What's a fish pokemon you'd think would be good for eating that's not a magikarp? Having trouble making up my mind.'The plastic plate was thrust down on the table before her, the mass of white flesh in the centre of it unidentifiable beyond ‘probably fish’, with a small bunch of steamed green beans placed on the side like an afterthought. A scooping of potato, mashed almost beyond recognition, completed the sad triad. It was such a sorry sight that by the time Princess had managed to stop staring at it, the one to blame had sorted his own plate out and had taken a seat at the small table opposite her. She found it hard to tell which plastic item had it the worst, the threatened chair underneath the criminal or the plate which was almost buckling under the amount of food he had managed to squeeze on.'Ungrateful ponce doesn't know how good she's got it, but the buizel will.

What are your thoughts on crossovers fics?Personally when I see a crossover fic I skip it even if it's theoretically good
>>59344053
>>59344053Crack would interest me but like nobody does that. There was that halo crossover recently but last I checked it basically dropped the halo gun-wielding-spartan part and became a regular journeyfic with a lot of character dialogue instead of pokemon shooting and punching.
>>59344013Ah, could see that one being a bit like snapper. I'll probably use that.>>59344014>LuvdiscI bet luvdiscs are riddled with cartilage. Finneon looks tasty however.

Are there any fics with a gym leader MC?
Are there any fics with a glowie MC? I want to see more people nuking grunts
>>59344559No idea. Soak could use a different chemical balance in the water, perhaps. That's still just a theory, but it's better than just assuming everything is magic.
>>59344559Arceus wanted it that way
>>59344559Have you considered not applying thirty-year old Gameboy game mechanics to fiction?
>>59344978Actually, why do we do that? To balance types? There's, what? One water-electric line in the series and Thunderbolt/Thunder isn't as common on water types. Can't we go with Thunder working on everything in rain?
>>59344783I plan on having my MC help an interpol glowie if that counts
>>59345062Will your glowie nuke a grunt while your MC ask if they were holding back because humans would die even to a Pidgey using gust?
>>59345068Ending spoiler. He will blow a few grunts here and there but he's holding back because of legal reasons, which is why he gets the MC into trouble with the baddies and gives him his plan for the HQ raid as a solution. He will reward him handsomely of course, he can't have him turn coat and snitch to both the baddies and the legals after the plan.
>>59344978>Sawsbuck, use Sand Attack!>Great, now they're a Ground Type. Quick Sawsbuck, use Horn Leech for super effective damage!>Oh no, Sawsbuck hurry and use Leech Seed!>Good job buddy, now they're a Grass Type. Pyroar will finish the job with super effective Fire damage!>Pikachu, they're covered in air which means they're a Flying Type! JUUUMAAAN BOOLLTOOOOOO!!!!
>>59345254It's funny, I did this and no one commented on it. Ice isn't even supereffective against water.
>>59345254See here is the problem. Different people have different levels of acceptable logic. The flying type example is stupid, and the ground type is pushing it, but the Leech Seed example actually sounds kino because it just makes sense to me that having a flammable plant digging into your body would make you more flammable.
>>59345265They all use the same logic thoeverbeit, the point was the logic of "covered in thing makes you that thing" is inherently flawed. Similarly, you don't become Fire Type from a Burn status, Electric Type from a Paralyzed status, or Ice Type from the Frostbite status. Underwater battles, rain, water sport, aqua ring...I personally don't mind too much if a fic treats all water as having the properties of Soak. But you gotta admit the logic don't logic when you apply it to other things.
What's the difference between soak and water sport?
>>59345306Soak is what I do whenever Vi is around. Water Sport is what I ask her to do to me.
>>59345289nta, but no they don't. Being covered in sand is literally superficial, the change isn't even skin deep. In the Leech Seed example the pokemon's outerlayer of skin has been penetrated and an invasive, flammable plant, is not setting it's roots in.Being covered in water is a bit of an in between, depending on what type of pokemon. Something like a Rock or Ground type that's made out of porous Rock might now be even weaker to something like an Ice-type since frozen water expands. While for most fleshy pokemon I could still see them growing weaker to electricity since fleshy things are already made of water and skin is a selectively permeable membrane, so water can soak in.
>>59345306soak changes the target's type to water, water sport reduces the damage dealt by fire-type moves
what happens when Trick-or-Treat is used on a human? does it turns into an actual ghost?
>>59345348Doesn’t matter your gender, you’re turned into a Hex Maniac with big, leaky milkers.
>>59345289>See here is the problem. Different people have different levels of acceptable logic.>>59345265>They all use the same logic thoeverbeitThis is why I said its a problem. We disagree on this fundamental part of the argument. Logic builds upon other logic, and thus the further back in the chain of logic our beliefs diverge the less compatible our conclusions will be.
>>59345306Soak wets the target, Water Sport soaks the user/surrounding (don't know the full mechanics of it).
>>59345322>>59345361There's no logic though. If being covered in an element makes you that element then being hit with Gust should make you Flying type.
>>59345361Just explain your logic to the audience and how it makes sense within the rules of the fic you're writing, as long as it't not too absurd it should be fine.
>>59345352Oh no! Not that! Haha...
>>59345372I literally explained my logic. Sure air is technically everywhere but it's not something you get coated in, and unlike water it's not a conductor. The logic of being covered in water making you weak to electricity tracks because water is conductive and skin is a semi permeable membrane. Qualities air doesn't have.
>>59345405The sand in sand attack fuels the absorb making it stronger.
You're all faggots. The real question is whether being covered in water gives you water STAB or not.
>>59345455I don't see how that works, sand is just sand. There's nothing nutritious in it that the Leech Seed would want to absorb. But if your logic is something like:>The attack has Ground-type energy in it...balh..balh..balhThan I can see it, but I don't imagine that something like Sand Attack would saturate a pokemon in Ground-type energy. That last point is how I see the difference between being covered in water and having the move Soak used on you. Soak is like giving you radiation poisoning but with Water-type energy, while being covered in water is just being covered in water.
>>59345348It turns you into Danny Phantom
>>59345254That's just Color Change
>>59345405It's all the same logic, but I think you're getting off target. Water on a target causing electricity to do more damage is logical, I doubt anyone would argue against that in good faith. Something like that already exists in the game: Powder. But it's not about providing a burst of damage, it's about changing typings and bypassing immunities. And you need specific moves to change something's typing, just being splashed with water isn't enough. And to ensure there's no confusion, Soak specifically changes a target's type to mono Water typing. A Ground type hit with Soak doesn't become Ground/Water, it becomes Water. This is important because Ground/Water is still immune to Electric.
>>59345607Yes.
>>59345607 (me)Wait, actually Powder doesn't do that, it only triggers from using a Fire move yourself. I guess this just shows fanon damage amplifiers make sense haha

To what extent should movespeed scale with power? How should an average Fearow, Lance's Dragonite, a Latios, and Giratina compare against each other in an straight race?
>>59345476I actually always try to keep a Soak user on my team so I know the answer to this. I only use Net Balls as my signature ball, and Soak makes them get the Water type capture rate bonus on any pokemon. The move fully changes the pokemon's type to mono Water and this effects everything that is effected by type. They get water weakness, they get STAB, the Net Ball works better on them, everything. Though admittedly I don't know if soaking a target who then Water Terastalizes gets the double STAB.
>>59345455
>>59345455Sand Attack is a Normal type move, that's why it doesn't work.
>>59345791>Sand Attack is a Normal type moveBro has been playin gen 1 lately.
If there had been a universal sort of drug, his job would be much easier. Although the maxim is not to get high on your own supply, he partook out of curiosity and discovered that both the fire and dark-type boosters did absolutely nothing for him. No sedation, no euphoria, no delirium, and no psychedelic properties could be ascertained from ingesting, snorting, injecting, eye-dropping, or applications sublingual, supralingual, epidermal, aural, oral, mucosal, and rectal. From Donna he learned that the fairy-booster is the eponymous Fairy Dust and that it sells in clubs for eighty thousand pokedollars per gram due to its stimulant-like effect on other aura types in addition to fairies. It had something to do with the fact that fairy, as a category, was a continuum as opposed to the well-characterized and firmly delineated steel, ground, and rock triad.
>>59345792Any MCs who discovered this and got mad fame and bitches for it? I think this one's slept on, never seen it.
>>59345774
>>59345801Holy FUARK...
>>59345792Sand Attack was a Normal type move before even god existed, don't get sassy with me just because you've fallen for Giratina's tricks.
>>59345801You probly just wanted to post that but when I say speed I don't mean the god awful in-game speed stat which has no relation to anything
>>59345834As a writer I find dismissal of things that don't seem to work as boring. I prefer to try and figure out how they can work without breaking anything.I tend to interpret the speed stat as a 'reaction speed' instead of 'movement speed'. Pidgeot can reach flight of Mach 2, but its speed stat doesn't reflect this. And since Speed is a measure of performance specifically in battles it makes sense that the reaction speed of a pokemon's ability to process information and act upon it. Hence Purugly's catlike reflexes gives it a chance to react just slightly faster than a jet engine dragon (for all the good it will do it).
>>59345857If only reaction speed or dexterity were an answer, but then there are pokemon like Vikavolt and Dugtrio. The Speed stat is gay.
>>59345795bro please stop posting my excerpts you're going to kill me with cringe
>>59345888How do Vikavolt and Dugtrio go against this? I don't know much about Vikavolt but I don't see why Dugtrio can't be fast.
>>59345935Vikavolt's dex entries>flusters opponents with acrobatic flying maneuvers>Displaying exceptional mobility, it weaves between trees and shoots down bird Pokémon with its electromagnetic beams.
>>59345857Higher reaction speed is meaningless if the trainer can't keep up with it to issue faster orders
>>59345903Okay.
>>59345935Vikavolt is a joke a of a design. It flies, it clearly was meant to be fast (dex entries). But GF in their infinite wisdom decided to give Vikavolt a needlessly large Special Attack, and the only way to balance it for game mechanics was to nerf its Speed into the ground.Once you realize GameFreak is hilariously incompetent 70% of the time (and that’s being njce) you will be free to create such incredible kino it’s not even funny.
>>59345954>if the trainer can't keep up with it to issue faster ordersWait, I thought it was common that top tier trainers had insane reaction speed and reflexes in general
>>59345951But that doesn't mention anything about reaction time. Acrobatic maneuvers are done with body coordination, not reaction. You don't have to react when moving around a tree because the tree isn't going to move.
>>59346074this is bait right
What are some hype moments in fics? I need inspo.
Auraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
>>59346285>when the lucario reaches the "mon and aura as one" realm and turns into an permanent bone club (they failed to realize the implications of becoming aura)
I think the anime and Poketoons have the right idea. Just do what makes sense for the story dramatically, what makes a cool set piece, what's emotionally resonant, etc.Who cares if Marowak is a ground type when Pikachu is protecting Ash's shot at going into the league, Pikachu plus Ash are miracle workers, and the episode is not about the homeless samurai guy but about what happens if a trainer lets his pokemon down.Who cares is Primeape would get one shotted by Baxcalibur, what matters is that the kid in the story loves his pokemon and Annihilape staring into a classroom is funny.Hell, even the japs agree. Festival of Champions doesn't follow much in the way of game mechanics accuracy and everyone loves it, even if its Blue is terrible.
>>59346330That really depends on the story. Rules and internal consistency are more or less important depending on what you're writing.A slice of life gag series cares much less about rules than a progression fantasy that abuses metaknowledge and subtle mechanics to give their MC a leg up.
