After playing and finishing Castlevania 1 multiple times to the degree of consistently being able to get a 1CC, (1 credit clear) I have come to question the intelligence and proficiency of the average supposed videogamer. This game is easy as fuck. As long as you're patient and make deliberate moves, you'll never die outside of the birds in the last level. It is definitely not "clunky" or "stiff" as I was forewarned, it plays very responsively and I never felt like I died unfairly. It's a easy game, but in a good way because every mechanic is consistent and you'll never die to random bullshit out of nowhere, like RE4, which I think all of us can agree is a perfect masterpiece despite being easy.
...and yet, I remember that for years, I always heard that this game was some kind of uber duper super ultra ball buster that was fucking impossible. I remember watching the AVGN episode where he concludes the only way to get past Dracula is to grind the candles by respawning them over and over. I remember seeing hundreds of basedllennials and Xers sperging out to the camera in their youtube videos about how the hallway before death always kills them. To get past that section, you just need to whip the axes the knights throw, then pause whenever a medusa head comes forward and whip it as well. The cross/axe eliminate any need to engage in close quarters combat with the knights, so you don't even need to take any risks. Am I not seeing something here? Am I somehow super good or are they just all retards? I seriously don't get it.

you dont say

I was able to complete the game multiple times after only a few sessions of play and yet the people who have been playing it since 1986 are still struggling at the hallway before death....? How do you explain this?

>After playing and finishing Castlevania 1 multiple times to the degree of consistently being able to get a 1CC, (1 credit clear)
Who would have guessed that playing a game over and over again until you memorize everything about it and build muscle memory makes it really fucking easy for you for the rest of your life.
>>
Yeah CV1 is easy to 1cc, however, try CV3...
CV4 is also challenging if you go for 1cc, harder than 1 at least.
Rondo is very easy.
CV1 and Rondo become harder if you opt to not use Holy Water and Bible, respectively, though.

>>11215554
It's crap compared to Super Mario Bros from 1985 and Lost Levels the same year.
Bad controls.
>>
>>11215565
they dont play the games
>>
>>11215570
>CV3
Hope you're not talking about the westoid version that turns enemies into damage sponges by literally doubling their HP in some cases
Damage sponges are never fun
>>
>>11215565
You're confusing the people who actually play games with people who have nostalgia for the NES/SNES and play 15 minutes of SMW every 6 months. Most of the AVGN circlejerker types are the latter
You must continue your quest to become the strongest zoomer and consume them
>>
Honestly I've never heard actual gamers claim that CV1 is clunky ever. It's considered to be one of the greatest games for a reason. As in it's one of those NES games that anyone who's at least somewhat into vidya can play and enjoy in 2024
>>
Re: the "clunky" and such claims, most people are really bad at quantifying their issues with games, or really anything going on in games for thay matter. I think the movement speed/lack of air control feels foreign to a lot of people because most well-regarded 2D platformers are faster, give you more air control, and often have momentum (NG and Castlevania are blessed by the absence of it). So you get a situation almost like when people played dual stick FPS games for the first time and it just felt "wrong" to them, which leads them to poorly describe what's frustrating them. It's a dumb critique, but I can see people not liking the feel of the game - the problem is just not even understanding why you don't like it
>>
>>11215554
I think you're taking pop nostalgia a little too seriously
>hey you remember castlevania, that was tough one. death's hallway bro right? *sips*
yeah the average joker is going to exaggerate and blow up relatively mild experiences from their past, especially when they remember it from childhood, more news at 11.

>I remember seeing hundreds of basedllennials and Xers sperging out to the camera in their youtube videos

Why were you watching hundreds of videos made by people who didn't know what they were talking about? They didn't make you do that.

Anyway yeah I played this when it was new-ish (born 1980) and never found it difficult. I didn't have the concept of 1CC in my head back then so I've never tried to do that with this game but I'm sure I could without much trouble. I did attempt a 1CC with Castlevania 3 (American) as an adult and had a good time. It didn't take super long. I hadn't finished that one as a kid when it was new; it was long enough and hard enough to stop me near the end, before the cartridge had to go back to the video rental place. It's not really that hard though. OP, I'm sure you could conquer it, and you probably should because it's a very good game. (Maybe choose the American one because it's said to be a little harder. Trust me, it's not hard in a bad way.)

So yeah, most people suck at games. Oh well. You are unusually good at this game, yes. But I wouldn't say "super good". It certainly doesn't take world-class skill to play a game like this that well. I guess you're about as skilled as I am and I know I'm not a great or rare expert. Just... a good player. Unlike normal people, apparently. I dunno, I don't really get it either, but one has to accept that lots of people suck at this particular activity, no matter how simple an activity it may be.

>I always heard that this game was some kind of uber duper super ultra ball buster that was fucking impossible
think you're exaggerating a bit yourself? sure it's erroneously considered a 'hard' game but I never remember people acting like it was hagane or some shit, beyond the usual faux gravity assigned to a game's quirks.

>>

m8 its a game from 87. its like a couple dozen kbs for the entire ROM
of course its easily beatable after you learn how to play it. almost every single game was like that back then. it literally cant surprise you, it isnt programmed that way
the hallway before death will kill you until you learn how to do it, and then on repeat playthroughs, its trivial. so you just get to chill and listen to the awesome music

>Am I somehow super good or are they just all retards?
you definitely ARE some sort of autistic retard, like in the traditional sense, but ill loop back around to that in a sec, so bear with me

first, no, you just did what every single kid in the 80s did when they were like 10yrs old. you play the game you have until you can beat it. then you beg mom for a new game for xmas. then you go to your room and beat your game again until xmas. maybe get a weekend rental every few weeks. but mostly just playing the same game over and over again
thankfully with games like castlevania, contra, MM etc thats hardly even a problem since the music is so fucking good

>I remember watching the AVGN episode where he concludes the only way to get past Dracula is to grind the candles
see this is what i mean when i call you retarded: part of your brain is actually broken
AVGN is a fucking bit. he was just trying to do a video format of the nintendo powers he used to read as a kid, showing where to get secret power ups and shit. fucking hell
>remember seeing hundreds of basedllennials and Xers sperging out
and this is WHY youre such an autistic robot
dont watch that shit. it literally makes you retarded
and at the very least, dont take it so literally, theyre just putting on a bit for their autistic twitch/yt viewers
just play vidya yourself, its literally the point. streamers are for inept fags with no hand-eye coordination

tl;dr
just go play CV3 they made it way harder/longer BECAUSE everyone who had CV had already beat it over 9000 times
>>
>>11215554
what's your go to strat for Death?
>>
>>11215837
if hes 1CCing it, id assume holy water, since its right at the beginning and trivial to powerup on the knights.
cross works great too and its pretty ez to get the II and III powerups from the death hallway. if you got III crosses death doesnt even get to hardly move before hes toast
>>
Castlevania is so easy to 1cc I've moved on to trying to 0-death
I always get fucked on something easy but I can get pretty far
>>
>>11215837
Different anon. I never had a big issue with Death bc I prioritise destroying the scythes and move constantly to the opposite side of their motion (so they end up moving away from me) which does take careful jumping. Just chip at Death when you can but don't get distracted by him and get cleaned up by the scythes.
>>
>>11215554
I don't get why /vr/ is so obsessed with this clunky kusoge series
>weapons and health items are inside candles
This alone always made me think it's made by idiots
>>
>>11215554
1)Post footage of your 1cc
2)How many hours did you spend playing castlevania to be able to 1cc it?
>>
>>11215565
You have legacy skill. You have played many games like this and know how to learn, cope, and what to expect.

You are elite
>>
>>11216810
he's also not an 8 year old playing the game back in the 80s. things would be different if he was.
>>
Congratulations you are all homosexual retards for believing op without proof
>>
>>11216979
Why are you even hear if no one ever submits proof? By your own logic no one will ever say anything you will beleive.
>>
>>11217018
I 1cced ghost and goblins it was easy, I don't understand why people say that is a hard game
>>
>>11215570
Lol, I can no death Castlevania 3, took me fuckin months, don't ask me how I did it, but I did it.
>>
>>11215593
Holy water is mandatory. Sypha's spells also fuck hard.
>>
>>11215554
>you'll never die outside of the birds in the last level
Fuck those accursed birds.
>>
>>11215570
>CV4 is also challenging if you go for 1cc
Players too often fall asleep before reaching the end.

Kys Arin

The real sign of a hardcore gamer is to 1cc on the second loop. The Medusa placements are horseshit.
>>
Play the Vs arcade version instead of NES trash.
>>
>>11215554
If you used holy water against Death you didn't beat the game
>>
>>11217318
I always use the cross or the axe.
>>
Wow you're so special OP, probably the best gamer who ever lived!

well said
