How many CRTs are enough?
Ah yes;/vr/ - CRT discussion
>>11271176zero
my crt hunt ended when I got a pvm 1943md. sure there are better/more feature packed crts but at 19” it’s a good size (not too big, not too small) and rgb at 600 lines looks great. got it for a great price too ($200ish shipped if I remember correctly, this was 5 years ago; apparently they sell for thousands now lol). since getting it I’ve sold off half my crts.
>>11271176is this the thread where poor zoomies complain about things that are available at no cost
>>11271176I understand the desire to have some backup units, but fucking hell
Smeleefags made CRTs uncool
>>11271341I have 20M2MDU, which I think is an update of your model. I love it, it doesn't get better for 15KHz consoles than this. I only wish it could also handle /vr/ PC games but I guess I'll have to find a separate VGA monitor for that
having a CRT would be cool if it weren’t for one small caveat; i don’t have anywhere in my house to put one.
>>11271176Please.This is amateur.https://www.wideview.it/pictures.htm
>>11271529most of those are lcds
>>11271183ThisNEVER enough CRTs
>>11271442Really, you can't find the space for a 20-25 inch CRT? It takes like one square meter with a nice stand
>>11271442I never understood this absurd "argument".I CRT is HEAVY but does not take a lot of room. Sure they are deeper than modern flatscreens but they still snuggly fit in a corner or on a stand. Are you living in a cardboard box?
>>11271176I am at the point where i dont even feel like picking up two within a 2 minute walk from my house.
>>11271557I'd say about 50% are CRT.
>>11271176I have one that I play on, and sometimes I'll pick up a random interesting one to learn about and fuck with before I flip it. I've learned a lot about what I like and don't this way and made some money too.
I only have two TVs. I've got a big fat 32'' component CRT and a shitty 24'' composite only CRT with picture issues that I keep as a backup in my closet.I wouldn't mind a better backup, or a CRT PC monitor.
>>11271176I'm trying to fix an old zenith, on and off for like a year. I replaced any capacitors they looked fucked up and swapped out the flyback. It'll turn on for a second then shut off...
>>11271416The one downside is the 1943md doesn’t do component.
>>11271773>I've learned a lot about what I like and don'tLike what?
>>11271358This actually making me asshurt as fuck right now.I've checked every pawn shop in town. Nothing.I've checked online for ones in my area, closest one is a fucking 6+ hour drive there and back, like 4 towns overAbsolutely nowhere in my town can I get my hands on one, not even little shitty ones, never mind a decently sized one.
>>11271616please understand, my room is cluttered enough already, this isn’t even taking into consideration that it would have to be near an outlet.
>>11272052what is your room cluttered with? perhaps you need to get rid of old things for the new (to you) thing, it might even be stuff other people would actually want
>>11271176No amount is sufficient.
One. You're mentally ill otherwise.
>>11271741My 14" CRT takes up a lot more room than a 14" LCD would. The depth makes a noticeable difference if you have a small apartment.
Outside of arcade cabs, I have >one PC CRT>one small Ikegami pro monitor for NES and MSX>one large NEC pro monitor for other consoles>one small consumer TV for when I feel like playing FC via RF >one flat tube consumer TV which used to be for bedroom TV watching, but I just never got rid of it and rarely use it
>>11272128i still have this on my desk (commodore 64 too)is just perfect size for gameboy/gamegear gamesdont know who these pod people are who got no room for crt's must be a sad life
>>11272128Based, what models are the Ikegami and NEC?
>>11272051>checked online for ones in my areaWhere is your area?
>>11272032Mostly just things about what I like and don't. Toshiba As and JVC Ds are my favorite sets. I'm not really into flats but the Toshiba AF is my favorite and my least favorite is the I'Art. 27" is my favorite size but 32" is also good. I don't really like Sony sets even though I've owned half a dozen of them in the past, the're not bad just not for me.
>>11272051Assuming you live in the US, I find this extremely hard to believe, even today I still can find them all over the place. Generally they are the fuck heug 300lb ones that are given away for free because no one wants to move them. Now that being said, if you're a euro, or god forbid some kind of 3rd worlder, all I can say is good luck.
>>11272342>the're not bad just not for meIn what way(s)?
>>11271176Depends on many factors, poorfaggotry, hoardercity, obsession, etc. I have several. But I have multiple houses with multiple setups, etc. Most bandwagoners don't need a CRT. Their brains run too slow to notice input lag and they don't have the space to keep them, let alone all the other things required to really take advantage of them.
>>11272265TM20-17R and XP29+
>>11272418>I have multiple houses with multiple setups
>>11271442Didn't stop op.
>>11272515Motherfucker just casually owns the coolest CRTs you can have
>>11271176real question: how many fucking CRT threads is enough for you schizo retards? scanlines and filters are more than good enough these days
>>11273314i need 100
>>11271176man, I can't even find a decent crt here, everything is clearly salvaged from a dump they've been rotting in for 20+ years and the seller wants hundreds of dollars for their "vintage gaming display"
>>11272167>is just perfect size for gameboy/gamegear gamesHuh? I have an 1802 and it's not particularly good for Game Boy emulation. You really want integer scaling which means that at 240p the Game Boy output is a tiny little box in the middle of the already small monitor.I guess if you have shit taste and just arbitrarily scale and blur the shit out of the image, or even worse, use interlacing, then whatever. They're your eyes.
>>11273410Become a Stalker.I grabbed this 21 inch high end Siemens out of an abandoned office buildings cellar
>>11271176You've still got a little bit of floor space to use up.
>>11271183Based
>>11273431>semens
>>11273431Reminder to sanitize your CRTs because this guy might have owned them
>>11272342what do you dislike about the i'art? I have a d-series and i'art side by side of the same size and find the i'art way better looking except for the flat screen distortion. Much smoother scrolling on the d-series. 1 of each isn't much of a sample size so maybe my d-series is just way more worn but my i'art has better colors, corner convergence, and blooms less on bright images. D-series gets some really bad bloom on bright stuff that is noticeable in menus
>>11272532>Depends on many factors>poorfaggotry: Check
>>11274272>still pretendingDeeds or GTFO
>>11272391I just don't like aperture grills they always look too dark to me and they seem to usually have pretty bad pinch in the middle. I also don't like the giant rectangle design. >>11273702I like the geometry and colors of the I'Art's usually, many of them cannot run 240p and they have that same boxy design. I've also seen a bunch of d series with really bad geometry and barrel distortion, it really comes down to what that particular set looks like, there are great and not so great examples of every CRT.
>>11275272that makes sense, I didn't know some i'arts were HD bullshit and couldn't handle 240p. Mine is mostly identical to the d-series in a lot of ways. I do notice that barrel distortion on the d-series but doesn't stand out to me as much as on a flat surface since the glass is close to a barrel shape itself
>>11273231The XP29 was a lucky grab from local craigslist several years back. The seller told me when I picked it up that it was originally a backup monitor for a bank or something, and that they never actually wound up using it. I thought it was expensive at the time ($300-$350, iirc), but since prices on XM/XP monitors have gone through the roof in recent years, I guess it was a good decision to get it.
>>11275195>still projectingpoorfags. lol.
>>11271179/retro tv and electronics/
>>11277680I don't think you know what that word means.
>>11277987Imaging being too poor to be able to afford to know what a word means
>>11271176In your case it's not enough benzos
>>11271176>How many CRTs are enough?0.We live in a time where shaders are actually very good, you don't need old hardware anymore, not this huge and inconvenient one at least, just use a modern flat TV with a shader and you'll have a good image for any of your needs, video games or not.
>>11280213I emulate with shaders.On a CRT
>>11273410I don't know how people are struggling to find a good CRT when some of the best ones like lightly used Trinitrons manufactured in the early 2000s are readily found sitting in some boomer's garage/estate sale or listed on FB marketplace/Craigslist for free
>>11280675Because their idea of "searching" is going on Ebay and slapping in the model number of the most well known CRT's expecting them to be $20 with free shipping. If you live in any major US city and probably any major city in the world for that matter. You will find people giving away CRT's every day sure 90% of the time it will be a cheap TV but that's not always the case. There's tons of other options to find PVM's and high end stuff for cheap or free too. But why even waste time trying to tell fatties to do something they never can/will do.
when I was a kid we had a pretty expensive Sony TV... the screen would eventually become pink tinted so we had to get rid of it
>>11280743you should probably kill yourself but if you don't I suggest trying the land sea and air from mcdonalds
>>11280675Touch grass my dude, market has been pretty barren since halfway through 2021. You have to manually search every day for months if you want to find a decent set that isn't composite only garbage.
>>11280730>>11280675>>11272368In 90% of places this is true, but in certain rich coastal areas you won't find shit that isn't a 300lb'er. Every online marketplace where my parents live has a dozen "rent a CRT!" ads for $25/hr before you see actual listings, then it's 95% $200 shitty 10 inchers. Shit was grim I couldn't believe my eyes
>>11280675>listed on FB marketplace/Craigslist for freetelevisions maybe, good luck finding monitors, let alone good oneswithin 50 miles of where I live in cincinatti there are 0 (zero) CRT monitors on craigslist and on FB marketplace there's 1 guy's dogshit emachines monitor that he's trying to sell for $50
>>11280758>"rent a CRT!" ads for $25/hrWhat the actual fuck
When I was a kid I went through a few crt tvs that ended up having the picture shrink down to a line in the middle of the screen. Sometimes smashing it helped. Why did that happen? Was it cause I left it on alot?I also had 1 TV that ended up having white lines appear for a bit before the aforementioned happened.Lastly 1 TV I had had a messy picture until it warmed up however the peculiar thing was that trying to turn it off would stabalize the picture but turn off the sound and disable channel up and down(I know it was a TV from the early 90s, had 1 set of rca jacks).Have had my current CRT since 2014 and it still works so im baffled thinking about these TVs and their weird issues.
>>11280675No people are struggling to find a good CRT. All there is here are subhuman zoom zooms crying because their mommies won't drive them to pick up a free one.
I buy a CRT, play a couple games on it and sell it to get a different one for a different feel. Only way I can make myself play games lately. Would love to live in a big house so I have space to don't sell them constantly though.
>>11281242>Would love to live in a big house so I have space to don't sell them constantly though. You'd be lucky to live in reality, instead of that schizo fantasy world your head is in.
Why does my CRT TV allow me to move the image vertically and horizontally when I connect a console via composite but only vertically when connecting a console via RGB?
>>11281304What?
>>11280756Oh ok. Hard to believe that everyone discovered the retro gaming hobbyist fixation on CRT around the same time. I picked up a free KV-27FS120 from Craigslist shortly after Covid started so maybe I got lucky. Supposedly they are prone to geometry issues but I've never had a problem. I love playing Sega Saturn with S-Video on it
>>11282050>Hard to believe that everyone discovered the retro gaming hobbyist fixation on CRT around the same time.Every zoomie believes that nothing existed or happened until they heard about it.
>>11271176Do crt fags houses really look like hoarder nests like this? I thought the plastic collector thing was just a meme but this is straight up unfuckable territory. Anon you gotta clean up your space before you can get a gf
>>11274272>Poorfaggotry>Literal trash you found for free on the side of the road
>>11283290it's still coping. lol
>>11271176Never enough.
>>11280758what
I started working for a moving company and part of the job is junk removal. It's mainly old furniture but we often take away CRTs. Whenever I see one with component inputs I try to bring it up but the truth is normies don't give a fuck. They want them gone and it takes too much time and effort to find a dork who wants it. Off to the scrap yard they go.I wish I had the space to drag them home and hoard them like a cat lady collecting strays, but I kept a PC monitor for myself and I'm having trouble finding a permanent location for it.
>>11283971You need to get in touch with the larper who claims he keeps buying and selling them. Between the two of you you could have an almost perpetual circle jerking larp fest.
>>11271442Imagine being European lmao
>>11283975Most sets with component are easy to sell within a week for $150-200 assuming it's clean without much damage.
I found an old sharp on the side of the road and figured id gamble on it working since id like a back up crt. Ended up pulling or tearing something in my knee when i picked it up and fell down in heap. Shit hurts bros.
>>11280454what's the point though?
>>11284426If your signals are too good like with vga or component then you can use shaders to recreate composite artifacts for games that need it.
>>11284764Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying it for me, anon.
What's wrong babe, you don't wanna play Melee? It's a CRT right?
>>11285564stuff like this is cool and fun and easy to sell to normies
>>11283997Impossibru. If true anon would just grab them whenever he finds them and make an extra $150-200/week.
>>11285570
>>11283997I tried selling a snoy for $100 and it sat on fb marketplace for several months until I gave it away for free.
>>11286105I herd marketplace listings by people on the sex offender register aren't shown certain groups of people. Could be your issue?
>>11286183No. I got my name removed years ago.
