You ass likes it
>>11282613You don't know yet. You need to watch some youtubes and ask strangers on the internet what your opinion is. This is the way of the zoomer.
>>11282738well damn bro. Don't leave me hanging, just tell me already.
It's one of the best RPGs of 5th gen. Unique, soulful and the badge system allows you to minmax depending if you prefer a more safe but slower progression or a risk-reward dynamic approach.
>>11282613You tell us.
my hot take is that paper mario is better than ttyd, but both games are excellent & simply marvelous
>>11282937I cannot stand the stage mechanic of TTYD
>>11282802>one of the best 5th gen rpgs If you're a toddler or never got a ps1 maybe
>>11283035What are your favorite PS1 RPGs?
Has anyone played the PM64 mod where it makes the mechanics more like tTYD?https://mario64hacks.fandom.com/wiki/Thousand_Year_Door_64I want to know if it's worth it or even better than base game.
>>11282613You find the visual style novel, but unfortunately the game insists upon itself. It's a pastiche.
>>11283152>but unfortunately the game insists upon itselfI don't feel that until Sticker Star, maybe Super or if you're a nihilist TYD, but certainly not 64
you think it's the 6th best game of the year 2000, behind FFIX, Baldurs Gate II, Thief II, Majora's Mask, and Deus Ex
>>11283161Wasn't Paper Mario 2001?Also you can like all those games and also Paper Mario.
>>11282937These days people have soured on TTYD just a pinch. Dialogue is boated and overly expository, some mechanics feel like a crutch (Superguard) while others feel cheap (audience and stage buffoonery). I think the original PM hits the sweet spot on all fronts even if the final boss scenario isn't as good; Shadow Queen is an excellent final boss thematically and difficulty-wise, while Star Rod Bowser is boring and a pushover. Bowser's role is very entertaining and well done in the original PM so it's a shame there's no throughline that makes his final fight feel intimidating or emotional in any way. Anyway, yes zoomer OP, you like it.
>>11282613It's decent. The people who say it's better than TTYD are lying though. I also think SMRPG is better than this.
>>11282613My 5 year old daughter sure does. Playing an RPG with your kids knocks out the read a book a day to them for a week
>>11283162Released in 2000 originally. And I don't get the second part. Why wouldn't you like all those games and Paper Mario?
>>11282613Its video game perfection
>>11282794You think its pretty decent but find it cute and comfy so you tend to overlook flaws that others are quite vocal about.
>>11283853They aren't "lying". Each game excels at something different. TTYD is more complex and offers more content, but PM is a tighter experience that is more consistent in quality. I thought I liked TTYD more until I went back and played PM again. Less bullshit backtracking and downtime.
>>11283154I hated sticker star, i didnt want to but eventually i just got fed up with it. Wish i got color splash but i missed my chance it seems. Ive heard origami king is good but never tried it.
>>11282613Yes, it's a comfy game. I'm playing it now too. It is simple but the way it limits the number of badges you can use adds strategy and customization to your playstyle.
>>11282937That’s the correct opinion.>>11283807>overworld is a hallway>chapter design is just needless backtracking because the overworld is a hallway>superguard breaks the game>art direction sucks>enemies got weaker, despite Mario having gotten much stronger>terrible worldbuilding, half the chapters are just a pipe below the town (PM64 only did this once)On the other hand,>pit of 100 trials is great>bonetail and shadow queen are excellent bosses>story and lore are all superior
>>11285420>>11283807Oh and it’s one of the few Mario games where it’s boring to move Mario. PM64 has the z-spin and gives you speedy spin almost immediately. Despite being almost 100% backtracking, TTYD has no speedy spin.
>>11282989>Getting bopped by an unruly audience causes immense seethe in me due to my own poor reaction time.
You don't think Paper Mario is necessarily that great overall, but you do think that there are some things that it does better than any other RPG out there, such as the tone, unique characters, and wonderful realization of the Mushroom Kingdom as a fanciful RPG setting. Also, you are in love with Lady Bow and constantly fantasize about getting Ghost Blowjobs from her. Furthermore, you call her Resa Resa because you're a huge weeb. You should be ashamed of yourself; I can't believe you're like this.
paper mario should be called gaper mario in reference to mario being gay and liking it in the bottomhere's a game that mogs chinese monkey and dragonball z and paper mario all at once
>>11283141Star ocean 2Parasite eveFfvii/viiiDewprismVagrant storyTales of eterniaWhich are all better than paper Mario, though I enjoy that one too.
>>11285585A lot of what people perceive as reaction time is actually tied up in anticipation. If we don't anticipate something then our reaction time drops like a rock. Most stage events are properly telegraphed, but a few aren't such as the bucket (iirc?) that falls from the ceiling. Tangentially related, the audience mechanics are pretty deep but they're not something that the player is directly in control of so it's more of a curiosity: https://supermariofiles.wordpress.com/2021/04/18/ttyd-audience/
>>11285854Man Vagrant Story is fucking HARD. I can't properly enjoy it but I really want to.
>>11286395Craft same type weapons and armor together until you get Hagane, which can be done by the second workshop. Use the stat buff/debuff spells, and elemental buffs when appropriate. Keep 3 weapon types at all time, one piercing/slashing/blunt. Use the scan spell to figure what weapon type/element theyre weak against. Game becomes really easy after that point. The crafting only gets super convoluted if you're going for top level weapons, which isn't needed at all.
