This is a great example of a game that can only really be played on real hardware.ike sure you can emulate it, but it's unplayable without the 3d effect of the Virtual Boy because the lack of visual depth makes it impossible to play.

It's a fantastic game if you have access to real hardware. It's basically Star Fox.

There's an emulator for the 3DS where the 3D works now.
>>
>>11414436
It's not the same. People say the same about the VR emulator but I've tried that and it's not the same either.

You mean like Yoshi Topsy Turvey or any Light Gun game?

Sure

Playing this on a real VB with the visor is a fun as hell experience. I have never tried VR yet, but Red Alarm (and Beachhead 2000) is the closest I have gotten to feeling like I was playing in virtual reality. It feels like your head is flying through a 3D tunnel with actual depth. I can kinda describe the sensation as having a 3D diorama you are shoving your head into.

>I can kinda describe the sensation as having a 3D diorama you are shoving your head into
That's exactly how I feel about Mario Clash
>>
I could just use a VR headset.

>It's not the same.
And? You argued that it "can only be played on real hardware", which isn't true. Your only reasoning for why was "lack of visual depth makes it impossible to play", which can be fully utilized on other platforms.
It's only later that you added nondescript qualifiers to avoid admitting that you were wrong.

yoshi and warioware twisted work great on phone emulators.

the 3ds emulator is EXACTLY what nintendo should have done
but i doubt it would have sold, and i doubt anyone would have asked for it at the time

during 3ds launch era, nintendrones didnt exist, the system sold quite poorly &
there werent eceleb hipsters lapping up every single thing TPC\Nintendo shit out annually (regardless of quality)

as someone who grew up with the virtualboy got burned by them cancelling it
never could find games locally (or even fucking wanted to)
claimed the entire retail library CiB (aside from space invaders and other quack-priced shit)

i can tell you the following:
waterworld was good
wario is not worth the asking price
red alarm could have\should have been starfox
vertical force should have had a life-bar option and is probably my #1 on the system

the virtualboy is in a STRANGE place;
nearly then entire library is "good"
there wasn't enough time for shitwave\wiiware titles to get dumped to the system

it is an expensive\fragile\dying antique and worth playing a working one atleast for a few minutes in this life of sin...
however, in 2025 with the current market prices of many of the carts\damaged systems
i wouldn't even recommend recap\rgb-mod+crt use. (did this too, not the same, not worth it)

i sold all my virtual boy shit
but someday i probably will still repurchase and hoard yet again..
closest system i can think of is vectrex (in regards to needing OG hardware to enjoy...

Not properly. Similarly, I could play Duck Hunt with a mouse in an emulator but you and I both know that it's not the same.
>It's only later that you added nondescript qualifiers to avoid admitting that you were wrong
Why are you lying? I said from the start that it can only be played on original hardware because of the depth issue. You tried to offer alternatives which don't fix the problem so you got called out. Quit acting like a retard.

>it is an expensive\fragile\dying antique
There's a permanent fix, you don't have to worry about the glue anymore.

nothing in this life is permanent anonkun
the mirrors are on motors that will fail
they are moving fast as fuck to create an image\screen

>I could play Duck Hunt with a mouse in an emulator
And you'd be using an entirely different control method, not at all analogous to using a zapper. This isn't a comparable situation at all.
Meanwhile, you could play Duck Hunt with a light gun in an emulator and it WOULD be both acceptable and comparable.
>I said from the start that it can only be played on original hardware because of the depth issue.
And "the depth issue" is nonexistent because proper 3D is possible through emulation, two examples of which were given.
>You tried to offer alternatives which don't fix the problem
I didn't offer anything. And both of the solutions other anons provided DO address your problem, as the only problem you brought up was the lack of 3D.
All you said in response, of course, was "it's not the same" with no explanation as to why or what that means. Which is the nondescript qualifier I referred to, and I'm sure you know that.
Quit being a retard, because we both know you're not acting.

NTA, but VB emulation on a 3DS or flat 3D display really is not the same thing. You need that enclosed visual experience to capture the unique feel of it. It doesn't even really feel like what is typically referred to as "virtual reality". A VR helmet with emulation may be able to approximate it, but playing the games in without the intended effect does not do them justice.
>>
>>11414435
I played this game on real hardware. It's a piece of shit. It's still hard to see where you're going. It's hard to dodge shots and pull of maneuvers like you would in SF64. It's just a bad game.
>>
>>11416772
You are just bad at it. It controls excellently if you know what you are doing.
