i'm gonna play The Turd Age tonight, and you can't stop me. Any tips for a beginner?

The elf girl's magic is the be-all end-all in this game, all difficulty exists because you don't have her good spells yet.
Also emulate the GC version instead, the PS2 verison has by FAR the worst graphics and performance of the 3 console versions. The Xbox version is the best but I have no idea what the state of Xbox emulation is.

The game gives you a spell that will revive you with full HP, MP and gives an extra turn the next time you would die.
It's literally impossible to lose a battle if you keep recasting it.
