As much as I like SC6, there's something about it that makes the game look cheap despite its modern graphics and beautiful art direction. Like it lacks a type of polish that 2 has, and I'm not sure what it is, but I can tell whenever I play these games.
4 has a little bit of this lack of polish as well, just not as much as 6, both still and play great though.

you might feel this way because there's very few things going on mechanically. guard impact wars are also frequent and that changes the pace.
functional air control and 8 way run side steps add to the smoothness that sc5/sc6 ruined. sc is basically 2d street fighter with side steps now.

gameplay wise sc4 pre-update is the best imo. on the game's release throws beat "just" impacts. its basically sc2 without the guard impact trades.
its a damn shame they ruined that in the first patch, but at least all the dlc works regardless.

That said 3 is still my favorite, loved chronicles of the sword and I'm surprised nintendo hasn't commissioned bamco for a SC clone for fire emblem using that very same gamemode as a base.

My personal theory is that most fighting games on the 360/ps3 era got slowed down significantly due to how poor the latency was on early HD televisions, Smash Bros Melee didn't even have an input buffer it just processed the input on press, Brawl did and is a much slower game to account for it.

What we should really want from current fighting games is 120hz options being widely implemented, I know Samurai Shodown does it.

In SC III they nerfed the 8-way run speed because stepping was too powerful in SC II. It was possible to step many horizontals. Attacks in SC III are still much faster than in later games. In SC IV they made both the 8-way run and attacks slower because that was the first game with online support and it was their way to mitigate latency issues, but it made it less fun to play. SC V increased the 8-way run speed a little bit, but kept the slow frame data on attacks. SC VI brought the 8-way run speed back to SC II levels, but also kept the slow frame data. It's possible to cover a decent chunk of distance with 8-way run even in a time span of a relatively quick attack and Namco's netcode has not improved at all since IV, which means that telling what will hit and when in that game is difficult. They were forced to add a bunch of "suck to opponent" retracking for half the moves to "fix" it in Season 2.

The frame advantage values on block, hit and counter don't tell the whole story about frame data because it's possible to increase block and hit stuns for both the attacker and defender by the same amount and end up with a move that takes more total frames to display but is just as (un)safe. This makes reacting to moves easier so it's theoretically better for online gameplay, but it also makes the game play slower.
