Looking on the Wikipedia it seems the Speccy has 1993 games. Now, there are fanciful reports of "27,000 games" but I've seen no actual evidence of this. It's a lot of games, but the numbers we see posted here is inflated thirteen times over what is apparently evidenced.

There are (as per the Wikipedia) 2460 MS-DOS games, which is more. And there are a whopping 2533 known Macintosh games.

Amiga has 2235 games, which is more too. C64 has 5691 games. 2193 Atari 8-bit games.

I like both the commodore and atari, most people who like one like the other and the atari personal computers and the acorns they are all great, I even have stuff like an oric and a jupiter ace, the spectrum was a great machine though, great games, so was the commodore. Just to settle it, the spectrum and a vast amount of games, easily 20000+ whoever is saying its 3000 is reading bad info. I downloaded over 10,000 myself by webwhacking to put on SD flash and I was a long way from finished. There are also 48K and 128K versions of many games so its probably even more than 20000 and that's not counting all the games that were published by basic listings, thousands more. The number 27000 comes I 'm guessing from it being in the documentary the rubber keyed wonder. Ask in the spectrum user group and someone will probably know.

The ZX81 was cool to all those early cheap computers were neat and gave people the chance to get into games and computing they could never have afforded otherwise. The spectrum was far better designed with the ULA though. It was the predecessor to the ZX81 the ZX80 that convinced Jack Trammel to ge tinto making computers for teh home when he picked one up on a visit to the UK, its mentioned in the rubber keyed wonder film. The games for all these early 8 bits from sinclair, commodore, atari, acorn, tandy, apple etc etc really are the bedrock of retro gaming alongside arcade cabs and the 2600 intellivision and coleco. If you don't like them get the fuck off the board.

>brits are clinging to a memory.
it's a retro gaming board 8 bit computers were a mini golden age, go be a bore somwhere else, I think the TRS80 and shit like the spectrum and commodore was cool, I don't give a fuck what nationality made it the people makinng 8 bit computers and using them to write and play games had more in common with each other that whatever normies lived in the random flag they were born under.
>>
You could take these things and play pacman and space invaders etc etc at home on them and pirate the games and then they started evolving really cool stuff all on their own, the fact that the first ones were cheap was the only reason the whole scene became a mass market, they really put computers in vast numbers of homes worldwide for the first time and they had a huge lifespan in a time when techology was evolving yearly, nearly a decade, the impact they had on games and the world was massive both in the games produced but also the people who started programming on them. 8 bit computers are based.

for what it's worth, I'm British, and I think this guy is delusional too.
The Spectrum has it's charm, but you're a retard if you think it's as good as Nintendo or Sega or even DOS. There's no comparison.
>>
>>12168169
i don't even mind the spectrum in itself, i would think it's cool and interesting. i just keep hearing yahtzee's voice in my head. it seems like a lot of brits online have this willful abrasive nature when it comes to whatever they grew up with, like they don't even conceive it might not have been the best or only thing
>>
>>12168070
I'm British, I had a Spectrum (well, a variety of them), I also had regular access to a C64, also an Amstrad, a BBC, a Mackintosh II and also had a Master System pretty early (for Europe). I pretty much missed out on the Nintendo apart from when I was a friend's house, but I loved that too. This whole 'better' thing, it's just sort of weird and pathetic. I see both sides arguing here, but you seem the most gay and vitriolic. Although you've probably been riled. But some of the post is just desperation. I had fun playing different games on all these platforms. Gameplay was dependent on the game, at least as much as the platform. The C64 was definitely smoother, better graphics and sound. The Spectrum had better processing power (not that it really mattered for most things) and was much more open to inspiring your average person to get involved in trying programming themselves. Either way, whilst more sophisticated graphics etc. is always going to be desirable, I've had great fun on the lesser (Space Invaders, Pacman anyone?). But if you want some sort of "America fuck yeah", then cool. You - I mean you personally - really achieved in that era. Well done (You).
>>
>>12168183
The spectrum world these days is very chilled out middle aged nerds, most of them own commodores and other machines and are into restoring them. There's massivve momentum building up around the spectum next. I am to write a default encrypted smtp and usenet client for it, maybe even one for posting here. I no longer require the rest of the internet and it already has a gopher client for file downloads.

The thing to notice about these two kickstarters, is they are both massively overfunded and you will see the first one includes commodore stuff alongside spectrum and spectrum next stuff. The spectrum next OS runs directky no emulation but they are supporting a fully licsenced commodore 64 core alonngside spectrum 48, 128, QL, clone variants, Amstrad CPC and CP/M. Not here to buy an add, both are already finished and overfunded. Between these two that's over 3.5 million in US dollars at todays exchange rate, 3,577,713.30 dollars to be more exact.
>>
My point is the 8 bit crowd and related 16 bit computer crowd don't really do antagonistic tribalism. They are just really, really into old computers and games.

>>
>>12168215
The commodore had just as much people typing stuff alongside the vic20 and zx81 the typing stuff thing stopped really because magazines started havinng cover tapes instead. Initally the BBC and C64 (and Atari) were way more expensive than the spectrum which is why the spectrum got so much traction and so many people using it, it was affordable and for what you got pretty decent. There was big recession in the late 70s early 80s in a lot of places a lot of familes could not afford more expensive machines

you don't sound like a dick you just sound genuinely retarded and very badly educated, your nationality is pretty irrelevent to that as well. It's clear you have no idea who e.g HG wells or Jules Verne were either, neither are you aware that Games workshop and space marines are not an American company and you've never heard of Dan Dare or Arthur C Clarke either. That's no refelection on Americans or America, it just means you're a simpleton, badly educated, jingoistic and a bit dim.

Here's another list of 20000+ games
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/
It says 20365 under games. With game listings for typing published in books and magazines it would be thousands more here's a cool thing, a mix of choose your own adventure like steve jacksons fighting fantasy or the lone wolf books with segments of code at points in the decision tree to be typed in on your spectrum or commodore or whatever
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro_Adventure
there were also books that had a complete game listed at the end tied in with the theme of the story like this

Mary Shelley and HG Wells codified science fiction as a thing, to be fair.

The British are also responsible for the lost world genre, pretty much codified the detective story as a thing with Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, and created fantasy as it stands in this post Lewis Carroll, JRR Tolkien, and CS Lewis world.

The question of where exactly fantasy begins is a bit muddy, because it's basically just folklore and mythology made literature.
But yeah, that's a good one too.
>>
>>12168902
fair but it is seen as a bit of a cornerstone in high fantasy, love to know what Tolkien who I have the greatest respect for with cs lewis said about it, I find a lot of roots of fantasy in arthurian stories and stuff like robinhood as well aside from beowulf, tolkien published a version of sir garwain and the green knight you know

you might like this very much, give it a listen, it is quite short

Yea, power armor was invented by E.E. Smith. Space marines were invented by author Bob Olsen, also an American.

>I was talking about science fiction, but only the science fiction that came out of American pulp magazines in the 1950's
That's second generation science fiction though, if even that.
HG Wells for all intents and purposes was the first sci-fi writer. He created the alien invader trope, he created time travel, he created stories about people in high concept future dystopias.
Everything is downstream from Wells.
There's also a point to be made that H Rider Haggard's lost world stories influenced John Carter of Mars, which would influence Star Trek, Star Wars, and so on.

Kind of is. I'd expect a West/North German to be far smarter than any Englishman (besides maybe some parts of the North).

It's quite amusing really that the north-south / east-west divide even exists relevant to this very thread: pretty much every single game dev from the 80s/90s that was based in the South East or East Anglia produced nothing but garbage shovelware.

The rest of the UK at least... tried, even if it didn't age well. (fuck Infrogrames for killing Gremlin Interactive btw)

It's kind of ironic that the most retarded part of the country, the part with literally zero creativity or organically formed art scene, is also the richest part. There's a really really good reason nobody on the internet comes from the home counties and all the anglobongs online are northern/western after all - the very few southeastern ones I have seen are massively narcissstic lolcows like that one who posted earlier who get banned from everywhere, left right and centre, and cause shit wherever they go.

Infact I have to wonder if growing up in an "angloid conservative" shithole is what causes extreme lolcow behaviour in the first place. Most calitrannies for instance are just boring and samey, but people like CWC for instance came from some dead end shitbox and were extremely fucked up. could be an egostroking thing due to parents not having a realistic idea of their child's actual ability relative to those around them.

I'm in two minds as to whether to call them people.

The leftoids were right to condemn them specifically. Can't think of any ethnicity I hate more than them, to be totally honest - they had barely a century of relevance (the 18th) after being consistently the niggers of Europe - and then they self-flagellate about it like the bunch of primal island savages they are.

Makes me laugh so hard when people say England and Japan are similar but on different continents. Yeah, no. One of the two has genuine chivalry, honour, politeness, appreciation of beauty and culture, and could (and would) defend themselves and their family against any threat. The angloid has none of these qualities but pretends he does - no other race except maybe some of the worst branches of Jews (which are directly descended from... Anglos! eg the Rothschilds) seem to possess the trait of genuine delusion about their values

lmao. it's great how you've gone from 27,000 to 30,000 something (which was total of all releases for spectrum until today, as anon pointed out - which caused you to have a severe mental breakdown), to 16,000 and now it's 20,000! except a tonne of these are fucking duplicates. really strange why you'd consistently lie for an entire thread about something so trivial. anon really did embarrass the fuck out of you to the point where you're now spamming the thread with chatgpt slop. are all spectrum users this pathetic or is it just you?

Graffiti is an Italian word for a reason:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_graffiti
Understand that for graffiti to exist, the masses have to be literate, which is the whitest thing in history.

Electronic music (what fucking cracktro would have hip hop?) has existed in Europe long before you vassals of Israel filled it with niggers.
>>
>>
>>12170635
This is why I just go by Wikipedia, these fan lists are unreliable. If Bri'ish people want to complain about the actual number of games listed, they can make new pages themselves and correct the record.

I don't think anybody hates the Spectrum, even despite the shit keyboard and low-cost dodgy nature of the thing overall. It's just that... it's not as iconic as people say, at least outside the UK.
