Wind Waker is carried by it's charm and timeless artstyle, but the egregious babying of the player was worse than any previous title, and it feels incomplete and superficially padded by the sailing portions including a notoriously shit Triforce quest. It's not a bad game, but it's not a masterpiece and isn't close to being the best 3D Zelda. It has Melee, that's the Cube's standout. And unfortunately it ended up attracting one of the most autistic fanbases in all of gaming. Also, as far as retro collecting goes, this thing is made entirely obsolete by the Wii. Find a Wii locally for under $30, mod it with a HDD or SD card, and enjoy both the GC and Wii's library on top of 240p emulation (if you're a CRTfag) in a sleek small design instead of an ugly lunchbox with a handle.

Then you have to either trade with a friend, possibly even swap systems because other people also want to try different ones than what they have, because spending less money is always the first option. I went from Dreamcast to Xbox but I got a wii years later and explored the GC library. Sure, it has some cutesy Nintendo shit but lots of it was fun. Back then Nintendo still competed for third party games and usually got version just as good as the other consoles. Smash Melee has a toxic community but its a fun game. F-Zero GX is a masterpiece. The Metroid Prime games are great first person adventures. A couple decent rpgs, a bunch of decent dreamcast ports, it wasnt bad. Gamecube had a lot of cute little games that you could beat in a few sessions but they never left a bad impression on me. Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmins, DK Jungle Beat, Chibi Robo and so on. That combined with cartoon Zelda and Animal Crossing gave it its kiddy reputation. But the Capcom games had a totally different tone. I think losing Rare really hit Nintendo, if Timesplitters had been exclusive it would have been big, because they fell behind in fps.
