>D00D what if instead of the player playing the game we just hack together a broken, busted AI that plays the game for you? wow.... I am... le visionary...at what age did you realize yuji horii was always a hack?
>>12162461Ite enhances the atmosphere and greatly speeds up random battles. Every JRPG should have options to set party members on AI control.
>>12162461does the ds version force AI on you?
>>12162463You know some people actually want to play the fucking game>>12162487Thankfully not, the ds version also has party chat so the party members are not blank states lime in the nes version.DQ is a series where there is literally no reason to play the originals over remakes.
>>121624612022 with Treasures, game was supposed to be a Monsters game but the scamdemic fuck over the development so we got a half assed game, funny enough Monsters 3 was also a piece of shit, even more funny is that all DQ games post the scamdemic where shit except for the mobile ones like KeshiKeshi and Tacts, exception to the rule would be Champions which was shut down one year after release, never play it so I can't say anything about it but to parrot what japs had to say about it being extremely boring, Tacts was a simple little fun strategy game with DQ monsters still popular in Japan while long dead west side, while KeshiKeshi was a puzzle game with cute aesthetics, it was doing ok money wise but not enough for square enix to keep supporting the game, lasted like a year in the west and three years in Japan.
>>12162461I love DW/Q but IV is genuinely bad. Playing it for the first time was just an awful experience because of how much of a disappointment it was
>>12162494nah, dragon quest III is still best on nes/famicom. the later versions are prettier but ruin the balance and difficulty. they made 1/2 much easier too but in that case Id say its an improvement.
>>12162526>no extra dungeon>no thieves>no cool introYeah no, there is literally no reason to play DQ3 nes just because it's more grindy
>>12162494The English DS version of 4 does not have the party chat. There's a hack to restore it though.
daily reminder VIII is the only playable game in this series.
>>12162541Why? Just because it's the first one in 3d? VIII is just a IV but with less characters and more movies
>>12162494>play the fucking gameThe game is the exploration, talking with NPCs and managing equipment. Combat is just filler.
>>12162541What happened? they work on my machine. >>12162461Love DQ4, specially the Torneko chapter, going to work and going back home until the sword of malice hits is comfy as fuck.Don't mind the combat system, whenever i go against a boss I always pick the Hero for healing, Ragnar, Alena and good old fashion Torneko and they become a cake walk.Around early 2010s a Jap managed to make each of the character AI play like the modern games, he send like a year with different combinations to do so, quite impressive for a Famicom game.
>being so bad at JRPGs that DQ4 filteres you
>>12162550>charming cast of main party members>overworld packed with treasure and secrets>actually good dungeons that dont feel like a slog>perfect pacing and level curve, besides the very start no grinding needed>fun crafting system that is very beneficial to use but not at all necessary >big titty redhead>one of the best looking games on ps2>beautiful orchestrated OST>perfect balance of being mostly linear but having stuff to explore as well>perfect 50-60 hour lengthbut if I had to pick the most important things that make it stand out Id say its pacing and level design. every other DQ hits a point where Im slogging through some boring cavern or doing some pointless fetch quest that makes me want to drop the game but VIII doesnt have that issue. if V had better dungeons and less slog, or if VII and XII were 50 hours shorter Id probably say theyre good too. if III had real characters or story itd be good. if IV didnt take forever to get your full party and didnt force AI, itd be good. I actually do like I as well because its simple and rewarding but fuck the NES version for its awful scaling, snes or gbc is much better. II is just straight up bad. havent actually played VI or IX yet so who knows maybe I would like those.
>>12162463Options, yes. Forcing it was a bad idea though, which they also agreed with considering they never did it again.>>12162494>>12162531>DQ is a series where there is literally no reason to play the originals over remakes.Do you see the basement 3 area here? You get down from the stairs and there's a fork with 3 doors. If you pick the wrong path you get a dead end, which means more random encounters, which can have rabbits that put your whole team to sleep for example, which is dangerous this early in the game. This area is a trap trying yo kill you, and you might have to go back to heal before exploring further. Anyway the HD 2D version gives you a fully revealed map of the area, so you just know there are 2 dead ends, and they put some chests to make you go there anyway. The rabbits aren't a problem either because you have two rousing rings at that point already and most fights there end in one round after you throw your boomerang. So you aren't exploring a dangerous unknown cave in fear of enemies anymore, you're leisurely following a map to check every corner for treasure (of which there's too many by the way) which completely changes the game for the worse IMO.
In the context of early 1990, the AI companions are awesome. For an NES game, they're even more awesome. Especially the fact that their AI isn't set and that they can actually learn by doing, in other words, the modern definition of AI.The western version had improvements to the AI like picrelI'm not a bad JRPG player like so many of the retarded zoomers here, and yet even for me DQ4's AI often pulled moves that were more effective/suited than what I would have done. In other words, if someone complains that the AI is retarded, I don't buy it. I can understand wanting to issue your own commands though and there is a game genie code for that. The only bad thing about DQ4's auto battle isn't with DQ4 itself but with all the copy cats that followed and wanted to imitate that and did a poor job at it, like Natsume's Chaos World.
How is 1/2 HD?Is it weird fighting multiple enemies in DQ1?
>>12162557Managing equipment FOR WHAT? The fucking COMBAT, you troglodyte!
>>12162461>Games should innovate and make experimental decisions to see what works and what doesn't>NO NOT LIKE THAT
>>12162461kill yourself with a gun
>>12162461Game Genie YYEXVTGE - Remove A.I. control in Chapter 5.You're welcome.
>>12162494Youve got it backwards, the DS version doesn't have party chat(in the English version anyway), the NES version does.
>>12163336NTA but NES has no party chat
>>12162461>at what age did you realize yuji horii was always a hackThe day he approved all the globalist designs for the remake.
>>12163367>Doing business with such a ridiculous country is really frustratingBasically saying everyone has to endure the censorship because of America With that said that is lazy design. You want to censor it for Americans, then censor it just for the Americans, like they did in the NES days. No need to bring everyone down to their level.
>>12163408Or say no and then email the shareholders and say "Company X, which you hold shares in, is refusing this product because they object to something as ridiculous as a character design. This game has X millions of fans across the world and stands to generate XX millions in revenue if not for their petty demands."
I never enjoyed DQ, the UI is clunky AF and the graphics look like DBZ
>>12163459>and the graphics look like DBZthat's the best part
>>12163367>we HAVE to label them as Type 1 and Type 2Who fucking says? This is not a legal/regulatory requirement of any kind at any level.
>>12162957>Priest's first AI response to meeting any new enemy is to cast instant-kill spells at it>Obviously has minimal success, especially against bosses where he'll never learn to try something else because they're one-time only enemies>Becomes such an iconic moment of his stupidity that all DQ4 remakes keep this behavior when he's set for default AI actions and openly mocks it in spin-offsIt's tough to be Kiryl... Cristo... whatever...
>>12162776Could I play 8 with no prior experience with the series?
>>12163565Yes, the very start of the game may seem grindy but it gets better after that. Avoid the 3DS version unless you're a retarded zoomer in which case noone can help you anyway.
>>12163456Uhh then the shareholders vote to remove you for not kowtowing to the payment processor's demands because guess what? The payment processors and banks (blackrock/vanguard) own significant stakes in virtually every major company on the planet.
>>12163484Amusingly, it's not "progressive" to do that because making someone clarify their identity is a no-no. That and nobody is going to pick a male body and she/her pronouns unless they're some weird gooner with a chaser fetish.
>>12163498Well except from that, the AI is pretty good. And even with that taken into account, one time I did force myself to use Cristo through chapter 5 and he didn't use the insta kill spell THAT much against bosses; also when it hits during random encounters it's actually a great help.
New romhack just droppedhttps://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9221/OP btfo
>>12162461the AI gimmick works a lot better in DWM for GBCidk why, but i never even hated it there, i even used it willingly a lot of the time, even outside the tournament matches. felt kinda cool how you had these unruly monsters that would throw whole tournament matches single-handedly because you left em on the farm too long
>>12163771So this still lets you swap out party members in mid-battle? I recall the Game Genie code not letting you do that.
>>12163824Apparently yes, otherwise there'd be no point in making a hack out of it
To beat Keeleon just now I had to keep reloading the fight with the try out tactic until Mara would cast sap, then switch to defensive otherwise Nara would just keep trying to put the boss to sleep. But that makes Mara never use her offensive spells, only using her weak attack. Only reason I'm not installing this thing>>12163771is that I wanna judge this game by how it actually was, but if my next boss fights are an RNG fest again I might reconsider. I wouldn't go as far as the OP and it's cool they experimented but this wasn't a good idea.
I like IV but needing a degree to figure out how to make Brey cast Bikill on your party members is instead of normal attacking a boss for 1 damage is retarded. I feel Enix noticed how shit this was at the last minute and just made the royal crypt spawn liquid metal slimes like crazy so you can easily just out-stat the shitty AI.
Why do you write like a retard?
>>12163802Yeah, that was cool. It made meat always useful to lower the wild stat when you wanted to use them more extensively.
>>12162937>crediting yourself with an email address>copyrightlol
>>12164234I was gonna say it's common for ancient gamefaqs stuff from the early 2000s... but it's from 2017 lmao
>>12164239That dude has been making maps for like 25+ years
>>12163864>>12163987The AI learns the strength of weaknesses of each enemy after fighting a certain number of combat rounds. If you get a party wipe then you get warped back into town but the game still remembers how many rounds you fought so on the second attempt the AI will do the right things. Stop using saves and reloads (there aren't even savepoints in dungeons) and play it the way its meant to be played. The system only fails against the final boss because each of his many phases counts internally as a different enemy.
>>12164252>The AI learns the strength of weaknesses of each enemy after fighting a certain number of combat rounds.I swear she once used sleep 5 rounds in a row. But I do admit it works really well against random enemies.>Stop using saves and reloads (there aren't even savepoints in dungeons)Keeleon is in the castle, there are no enemies you can just teleport there. He's also the first real boss you fight in chapter 5 with a team, let's see what happens when I get to others but I'm probably not playing any more today.
>>12164252Wow this has nothing to do with Brey's unwillingness to use Bikill in boss fights, and any other buff and debuff from other party members too. Good thing there's a sword that just lets the hero use Sap themself otherwise nothing would get done.
>>12163456>This game has X millions of fans across the world and stands to generate XX millions in revenue if not for their petty demands."This is objectively false for DQ though
I definitely want to play it without AI but should I play ds version or the NES romhack someone posted? whats gonna be comfier?
>>12162521I thought it was comparable to III and very good. It was V that I was slightly disappointed in.
>>12162461ahh yes, Dragonquest 4, the westmarches
>>12164841DS with the party chat patch
>>12164234A lot of websites steal stuff from gamefaqs and try to monetize it by adding ads and invasive cookies. Also the email address is for people who want to report mistakes/omissions to the FAQ writer.
Don't worry he'll fix it in the superior HD-2D remake like he did with the Erdrick trilogy .

>>12162461
>>12163459Is that.. a bulge..? Feminine penis uooooh...
>>12162957>an Nintendo Entertainment System
>>12163802This. I love DQ overall but my favourite game is DWM
>>12163498Sorta reminds me of Persona 3 FES, where your party members were controlled by AI scripts as well. If you actually read the explanation of what each script does, there was almost no difference from controlling them yourself, since scripts were basically commands. I remember only literal retards being filtered by them, because they never read any explanations and left the team on the default setting, which should never be used. Also, once you scanned an enemy and its weakness were revealed, they would use any ability they had that hits that weakness. It's a really good system.
>12165159I'll acknowledge your attempt but you have to try harder than that for the (You)
>>12163336I wonder how many people here who go around saying that the original versions are the only way to play and call anyone who plays the remakes a “tranny” didn’t actually play these original versions and go around spreading false information like you. The NES version doesn’t have party chat, moron.
>>12165162They're the same, except not at all because P3 has very clear cut tactics that the AI will follow to a T and in general better AI. If you tell Junpei to support he'll use his support skill Rakukaja. If you tell Cristo to go on the defensive in hopes he'll cast his version of rakukaja, he'll... try to use the instakill spell on the boss. Several times.
>>12165159An NES. An En-ee-ess.
Glasses are moe
>>12165162I adored FES' system for the AI. Learning to manipulate the tactics system was a genuine skill and the game was balanced around it. I remember going from 3 hard mode to 4 hard mode and you could immediately feel the sheer stat bloat they had to implement in 4 to compensate for you being able to fully control your team. Heck, the psp version of 3 had the opposite extreme where they didn't rebalance everything and the game became piss easy.
>>12164841DS is easier but more "modern", maybe that's what you like. It also has an extra chapter at the end that retcons some things, some people like it, others don't. You could always start the NES version and use the patch later if you don't like the AI thing, hopefully your save still works after patching. What I'm liking about the NES version is seeing the evolution of the series. The soundtrack in particular sounds way more complex or elaborate compared to the previous games.
>>12165227>What I'm liking about the NES version is seeing the evolution of the seriesOne thing I really enjoy about the NES games is that by the end of each new entry you end up stronger than than you were at the end of the previous game (stats/spells/gear wise)
>>12165238I also like the escalation>DQ1 - 1 guy saves the kingdom/land>DQ2 - 3 people save the world>DQ3 - 4 people save 2 worlds and a goddess
>>12163031Its brutal fighting multiple enemies by yourself, but that's the point and even NPCs think you're crazy for traveling alone. On the plus side you do have access to boomerangs and stuff, so it really speeds up grinding if you feel the need to do so.
>>12163408>You want to censor it for Americans, then censor it just for the Americans, like they did in the NES days. No need to bring everyone down to their level.God I wish this were the case, but sadly everyone gets affected now, and thanks to EU laws Dragon Quest will never have gambling again.
>>12162461It’s so it feels more like dnd or other pen and paper rpgs which its main story and jump from perspectives was inspired by (like your friend going on a solo campaign for backstory/lore).
Who do you think would make for the best girlfriend for anon?
I forgot... what was Orgodemir's problem again? Why is he such a faggy bitch?
>>12166028He's evil, like literally every single DQ final boss except Corpus
>>12165184You actually say "En-ee-ess" out loud?
>>12166038NTA, but I've said N-E-S verbally since the early 90s.

>>12166090The game's a fucking jrpg...
Mordegon's crib has got me thinking... I really do massively prefer random encounters to enemies being on the map. I'm running past so much that it almost feels like a joke. and when I do end up on an encounter I get annoyed because it was my own mistake that caused it.
