Played it recently. Its horribly ugly thanks to the shitty 3d artstyle and janky pre rendered backgrounds. Games like Grandia and breath of Fire aged alot better. They went for a realistic style of graphics and it adds battle loading times and feels very dated. I played Dragon Quest 8 and it felt so good to play because they went with a great art style and simple combat system. When youre staring at a game for 60 hours and its ugly it feels like a chore

I love that you end up on a boat or have to sneak into that yakuza boss house etc. It really captures a feeling of going on an adventure with your friends while creating memorable fun mythology.

7 is weird because it has so many good ideas and the execution is piss poor. i like the materia system also, but i think i'd prefer each character being more unique outside of limit breaks. which i guess they are, right? doesn't aerith have better magic and barret have shit magic, but cloud is good overall? i tended to go with vincent as my "mage", cid as physical damage and cloud as my all rounder. anyway, if you get the steam version and mod the shit out of it, it pretty much takes care of what i don't like about this game. and in that case i'd give this a solid 8/10. i think it's an oddball story for a FF game. maybe too psychological.but on its own, without any hacks/mods every cool thing it does, it does something else retarded.
