Yeah, that arcade setup is why I dislike Fisherman's Bait 1 & 2. Big Ol' Bass 2 did away with that shit, and is the best /vr/ fishing game for doing so. In fact, all the best have no timer:

Is this game enjoyable with a standard controller or is it only worth playing with the Dreamcast fishing controller? I have a Wii so I could try the port on there too, but looking into it the motion controls seem really basic and I'd imagine the fishing controller is a way better experience. I don't own a Dreamcast, but I'm tempted to buy one, that fucking fishing controller is expensive though.
