I'm really not enjoying Panzer Dragoon Zwei. I thought the first one was boring but with beautiful art, and I heard Zwei was better, but Zwei is braindead easy and significantly worse art direction. Hopefully Saga and Orta are better, but man I'm really disappointed with what I heard were the greatest rail shooters ever made

Did you unlock the blue dragon form? Find every alternate path? Beat it 1cc? I'm asking because I replayed it last year with the goal of getting every form, taking ever path, etc and had a blast.
>saga and Orta
Can't comment on Orta as I haven't played it but Saga is great and I say this as someone who really isn't into rpgs.

saga is dogshit and orta is fetid, rotten dogshit

I think it’s great, maybe the series just isn’t for you. I’d say it’s the best of the series. 1 is a great, but it’s simple. Great graphics for the time, and the music was awesome. The gameplay was actually new and innovative back then and it was a breath of fresh air.

2 improved on 1 in most ways. I think the music was better in 1, but that’s about the only thing I liked more. Better graphics, on foot levels, the 3D pad offered more precise control, branching pathways, the difficulty ranking and special points in each level and unlockable dragons added depth. My only problem with the game was it’s too short. I guess that means it’s a great game. If it’s braindead easy try to get 100% on each level. Make sure you’re top ranked. I can’t do it, and I’ve been playing for a long time.

Saga is a great rpg if you’re like me and you typically don’t like jrpgs. Story is interesting, big worlds to explore, flying around is fun and the combat system is creative, unique and fast paced. There’s some secrets to find. But I’m not an rpg guy, I think it’s kind of simple for most hardcore players.

Orta has good mechanics and gameplay, and finally some more levels, but the story is braindead retarded slop. Bad enough it’s a little surprising. The bosses are great. So it’s actually a good game in most ways. It’s crazy because Saga has such a good story and style to it and then they just completely butcher it. You can “evolve” your dragon at the press of a button now which makes for some decently fun gameplay mechanically but it’s dumb. You level up each form of dragon separately and the switch between them freely. There’s like acid trip levels. You fight bosses while moving around like in Saga, which is neat. The final boss isn’t that fun but really reminds me of the final boss in Kirby 64.

Honerable mention to Gamara 2000 on PS1, a jap only PD clone. It’s a janky & there’s no scoring, no analog and bad fmv. But its fun.

>uhhh....
Don't tell me you're about to say Pokemon Snap or fucking Starfox lmao
>>
>>12166345
Sin and Punishment is so insanely overrated that it bothers me when it comes up in the discussion.

It has a nonsense barely comprehensible plot, terrible voice acting and plays slow as molassis, the control scheme is also terrible.

panzer dragoon series is the definition of sovlless segaslop

Orta is the hardest game in the series and looks awesome. Flexes the xbox frequently.

It's OK to get filtered, S&P takes a while to click, when it does you can join us
>>
why panzer dragoon better than star fox 64 again?
>>
>>12166479
Both are great, and each have their own mechanics
Star Fox is the one with the most "sim-like" elements, what with airship maneuvering and speed control, somersaults etc, and the all-range mode missions, which aren't on rails.
It's heavily arcadized air combat sim, Ace Combat did something similar, leaning more over the sim side.
The series experimented with ground missions too.
Panzer Dragoon is less technical and more artsy. The camera rotation allowed for an impressive cinematic approach with interactivity.
S&P is a mix of an on rail shooter and a platformer/action game.
A lot of the times it feels like I'm playing a brawler mixed with a shooter, not too unlike DMC or Bayonetta with how bullets and melee attacks mix up.
All of them are unique. Rez is like a spiritual successor to PD, and there's also Child of Eden.
>>

Mystic and the 3rd one wins against that gamecube abomination
>>
I know a lot of people hated it, but I really enjoyed Child of Eden
The hard mode level clears are less than 1% too

Zwei is so awesome

I did too, I'll actually always be mad at myself about it though. In the final levels/credits they show all these photos, there was a submission page where you could send in a photo and it might get shown during that part of the game. Even though obviously no guarantee it would be in the game, I wish I did it.

Is there something in between PD and S&P in terms of difficulty?

PD is great, but just very easy and the jump to S&P is pretty huge.
>>
>>12164549
Saga is endlessly glazed because it is rare and expensive. As a game it is okay but I did not think the story was anything to write home about. I really liked Orta but it is very hard and it's easy to just upgrade the plain dragon form which will hurt you in later levels.
>>
>>12167916
Starfox 64
It has just enough mechanical demands of the player (as opposed to just moving the dragon/reticle), but it isn’t as ball busting as Sin

I don't think as a writtens story it's that interesting, but it's got a strong vibe, it's all aesthetic and emotion, it works on that level.
>>
>>12170569
Best part of the story is how relentlessly bleak the world is and how it gets progressively more dour as it goes on.
Love me them devs snorting that Berserk powder back then.

Haven’t played Orta yet but Saga is one of those games where maybe the story in itself isn’t the most compelling but the world and style sticks with you. It’s one of the few mysterious games that I’ll just randomly think about sometimes. I feel similarly about Dark Savior. Must be something up with the Saturn
